Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

I'm thinking Abrams might try to top the unbroken shot from ROTS, honestly.

I've read the rumors on the scene we apparently open on once the scroll is done (and that rumor hit during the same batch of stuff that has been largely proven true by this teaser) and I think it's entirely possible that whole sequence will be the IMAX scene that Abrams shot.

Basically, I'm wondering if we're going to see two some imperial ships chase the Falcon into the atmosphere of whatever this planet is, and the resultant dogfight leaves Boyega stuck on whatever planet that is.

source?

i don't think so.

Lucas didn't even have outlines, really. He had notes for what he wanted to do. Those notes were given to Michael Arndt, who crafted a 50 page outline for the entire trilogy. On the strength of that outline, Arndt was then given the job to write Episode VII. Once Abrams was hired, Abrams and Kasdan rewrote Arndt's script and let Arndt go. There's no word as to how much of either his script or that outline has survived intact, but considering he's gone, I'd imagine there's been some significant changes.

I'm thinking that first shot in the trailer is possibly the first shot in the movie

After the scroll we move down into Tatooine/NotTatooine and the first thing we do is meet the confused, crashed stormtrooper who doesn't know where he is or what the fuck is going on

Maybe.

That would be great. Star Wars has not had non-linear storytelling in the movies so far.

And I'm a fan of the new droid. Mayhaps, his ball is an adaptable body that can reconfigure so he can climb steps and what not. It'd be like a little hobbit body.

This is one of the things I don't like about Abrams. I wouldn't mind if he used the occasional easter egg shot but I expect way too much of this kind of throwback reference just for the sake of the reference. I just hope he doesn't let another pair of breasts linger on screen for no reason other than boobs.

You didn't even know this was a throwback reference until someone told you. Or that it's even a throwback reference.

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with "look sir, droids!" moment, the rest of the scenes prior and after are nothing alike.

Fans are just over analyzing a couple seconds of footage.

This is almost surely not even meant to be some form of throwback

I think it would be best to keep 7 as the one with all the references and the original cast returning; then kill them all off by the end of the movie and have the next two be it's own thing with the new cast.

"information" from leaks, not speculation in the spoiler:

there was a leaked aerial shot of an X-Wing that shows a round thingy on top of the fighter, you can find it here so i guess this is mostly just a perspective thing, or - these specific X-Wings don't have R2 units on board.

"Well, if there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from." ;)

However, Tatooine's main role is the fact that it's where Shmi Skywalker lived as a slave.

Because of this:
* Anakin (her son) lived there
* Cliegg Lars married Shmi - Owen and Beru are Anakin's only relatives, which is why ...
* Luke is given to Owen and Beru, which is also why
* Obiwan Kenoby chooses Tatooine as his place of exile, so he can keep a watching eye over the boy growing up.

It's not some cosmic coincidence, in this case - it's a chain of events that boils down to "where Anakin's family lives"

The only part that isn't related to the Skywalker family tree is the fact that Jabba's palace is there, where frozen Han Solo would be taken.

Which of course, who would never had entered the story if Obi-Wan didn't look for a pilot in the cantina.

I'm wondering if Boyega was in one of the TIEs facing the Falcon from the end of the teaser and got shot down.

Is Boyega confirmed to be the male lead?

Seems odd that a non-Jedi would be the lead character, especially when the lead antagonist would presumably be a Sith.

once it's well known that he's the main character, I expect a shitstorm sadly.

And that is unfortunate and stupid.

The youtube comments, and the random commentary in the trenches of the internet make me depressed to be a human at times.

This is Star Wars. Who the F cares about color, or gender or any of that shit... It's Star Wars people should be happy as hell that a company bought the rights to it and are willing to money hat it for quite a while so we can get some action out of an amazing franchise instead of bitching about who the main actor is.

Nah, it's totally a visual throwback. Of course the rest of the scene is going to be nothing alike, that doesn't mean it's not a reference.

Anyone could be the lead at this point; but it's most likely him or the girl (or both of them together).

Visual nods like that are genuinely clever and fun though. I'd much rather that than direct pandering with quotes and characters we had enough of that with Lucas's 'poetry' approach.

It would actually be an interesting take. Maybe they'll explain that he has an unusual amount of midichlorians (LOL) and can increase his count through the use of nanomachines. *mindblown*

A guy standing up from out of frame is alone to make it a throwback? Lot of movies been doing throwbacks to star wars then forever. The whole panning shot before hand of other troopers, dialogue, and aftermath have nothing in common with that 1 second moment of standing up.

People are seeing things that aren't even there.

Because Luke was totally a Jedi in A New Hope.

He looks great and I like the energy he gave off the two seconds we got of him. I'm super pumped.

The fact this is the first thing people are pointing out makes it pretty sad.

?

I'm assuming you're referring to the reason it's noteworthy in the first place as sad, as opposed to the actual act of pointing it out? Because it is a bold move for what is likely to be the blockbuster event film to end all blockbuster event films, as depressing as that is when you think about it.

What makes you think he won't be a Jedi. I fully expect him to become a Jedi. The force is awakening right, I assume a bunch of people will have force powers. To me a Star Wars lead has to be a Jedi.

Like I said, I wouldn't mind it at all but I expect way too much of it from Abrams. Otherwise, I'd totally agree with you. Hope I'm wrong, I really do, I just don't expect it.

Which of course, who would never had entered the story if Obi-Wan didn't look for a pilot in the cantina.

Things happen on Tatooine because it's a no man's land. Anywhere else, Anakin might have been found and trained by the Jedi, anywhere else, his mother wouldn't have been killed by sandpeople, anywhere else, they wouldn't have been able to hide Luke.

so the same reason why the Hutts and Han are doing shady deals on this planet, is the reason Luke or Anakin haven't been discovered or drafted by the Empire yet.

Feels like the story could happen nowhere else but on Tatooine :)

Wait, are you serious? Why? Because he's black?

you know what's super sad? racist assholes?

you know what's also weirdly sad to me? that there's still people around who are geniunely shocked how many vocally racist assholes there are on the Internet. Talk about privilege :/ (not meant as an offense - but if you seriously are shocked about what's happening with #blackstormtrooper, you haven't been paying attention to things like people going batshit when they watched the Hunger games and little Rue was black...)

But he's not in TIE pilot garb:

I guess maybe TIE pilots and land troops wear the same uniform now. Or he didn't have time to change clothes because he actually stole the TIE fighter.

EDIT: beaten by Digital-Hero

Yep. It's probably somewhere in the realm of disturbing how many times I've seen these movies but I didn't even notice that. I guess that's just part of the extent people will go to just to have something to complain about.

So this is pretty exciting, right? Like Star Wars as a whole is worth another ride, especially considering the blowup of positive response that post-Disney Pixar and Marvel thrived on?

I'm excited. The team and cast seem awesom. The visuals were magical again.

Why does he have to be wearing the TIE uniform, if he is helping the Falcon which it looks like he is he probably stole the TIE.

Which is what he stated in his post. It's more likely he stole and went AWOL.

People are waking up to the force. Apparently Luke has become the sole nexus or something.
