Star Wars: Episode VII Trailer - George Lucas' Special Edition

Amazing. Laughed a bunch of times in this thread, but never this hard.

I'm back here as an excuse to post the greatest bit of Star Wars-related comedy ever made:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A0rwG39Jzk

The very best part is where Leia first confronts Vader. So goddamn funny I end up rewinding it.

Leia: When they here you attacked a...
Vader: Hey, I ain't fightin' for no race, I ain't redeemin' nobody. I quit on you when you cleared out of Detroit with Willy the Pimp! Yeah...and you lucky I'm too busy to find you, girl, you selling my clothes, my ring, my silver brushes...
Leia: I don't know what you're talking about...I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan...
Vader: Don't you PAPA me, girl, I'll POPPA you so you never forget it. Get your black ass out of here. JESUS.

I'm not surprised if George Lucas championed with having a black actor as one of the leads.

Granted his output in recent years was shit but he was pretty vocal with having more black leads in movies, which is great.

The issue I have with all Star Wars movies is there are hardly any non-white actors. You can count them on one hand. Maybe two. Sure, TFA has two non-white main characters and one female main character, but to me, it seems cheap because of how few non-white actors have been in the movies, traditionally.

That's not to say there should be anything taken away from those three. I'm sure their acting will be good.
So the fact that they're doing something now means nothing to you? What will it take to satisfy you exactly?

I really, really don't understand this post.

Also your issue with it is quite slanted. Yes, while the original trilogy had a lot of white leads it started to diversify after.

Are some of you kidding about the leads not being diverse. There's 3 leads. With some of the arguments you guys have it's like the only way for the movie to have diversity is for ALL the leads to be a mix between all the races found on the entire planet or this guy:

Some of these arguments are preposterous.

If they wanted to really show diversity they would have picked a mixed race or middle eastern guy as the lead. It's frankly insulting that Hollywood still thinks throwing in an african american lead suddenly makes the movie "diverse". There is more to this world than white and black people.
Man, words fail me.

I can't stand it.

And I'm fucking Hispanic.

My problem is that I honestly don't even give a fuck where anyone is from. Which I guess actually isn't a problem and I am one of the few sane people.

Why the fuck do you care about how many black/Hispanics/white people are in the cast? Like, what's the point of keeping tally? Since there are more white people on the screen, does that mean the creators are somehow racist? Will having more Hispanic people in the movie make you feel better about yourself and the world? It's a fucking movie.

I couldn't care less where Oscar Issac is from and I find it weird that people need to validate him somehow.

"Oh, shit, the dude is Cuban, now I know the movie is going to be amazing."

I find it so fucking strange.

Sorry.

I'm disgusted by the fact that this is a movie about space fantasy and there's hardly a alien or droid other than the one.

Get a clue Abrams.

Seriously tho:

John Boyega - black man.
Daisy Ridley - white woman.
Oscar Isaac - guatemalan/cuban/french.
Gwendoline Christie - white woman.
Lupita N'yongo - black woman.
Maisie Richardson-Sellers - black woman.
Christina Chong - asian woman.
Crystal Clarke - black woman.

The first three people on that list are the leads. The next three people are supporting characters with considerable screen-time, reportedly. Also, the word is that Christie's character is a genderswapped version of the role that Cumberbatch almost landed.

They're going out of their way to make the movie look a little more representative of the audience that will be watching it.

I'm not saying you can't feel unimpressed by the diversity in the cast. I'm saying I'd probably disagree with your level of "meh" about it, though.

Leaked pics of the McQuarrie Jabba Palace gate from the set of VII hit the web months ago...
