Palutena kills at like 90% off of a down throw into uair.

Just making a list of people who are adept at certain characters would suffice. I don't do tournaments because I'm lame.
How do we judge, out of everyone, who is adept at which characters? I don't want any one person calling those shots. I like objective standards.

Gonna join the fun!

I'M REALLY FEELING IT

Mega Man - dunno, but he feels right home. I literally annoy my enemies with those puny pellets lol. My most used character in both 3DS and Wii U versions BY A LOT.
Mario - very agile, very strong, and has a lot of nifty tricks in his arsenal.
Marth - I know he's no longer the dominating Marth that he used to be, but hitting with those sweet spot attacks are very satisfying. Breaking shields are easier this time around using his shield breaker.
Lucina - just like Marth. I prefer Marth though. :p
Shulk - I'm really feeling it! Seriously, he's freakin' deadly. All his smash attacks just have that strong knockback even without buffs. I'm still not good at him but I'm gonna practice more.
Kirby - he's the best Kirby yet since N64 Kirby. And I like it!
Samus - she really hits hard this time around! I'm doing better at her than using ZSS.
King Dedede - Out of all the heavyweights I really like the big penguin. Gourdos can really mess up opponents especially when they don't know how to deflect them back.

NOT REALLY FEELING IT
Sheik - She's fast, but really hard to get a kill.
ZSS - Same as Sheik
Little Mac - For some reason I can't really use him that well.
Toon Link - The shorter range kind of hurts. Prefers the adult Link in this version.
Olimar - I'm just not good at using and shuffling the Pikmin for attacks.
Wario - I'm having a hard time jumping off the bike lol.

I'M NOT REALLY FEELING IT

Wii Fit Trainer - weird yoga fuck

Maybe because you haven't felt the sensation of norms striking in both directions simultaneously. It has gotten so bad for me that I have to get punished to remember that ____ (insert other character) can't do this.

Or perhaps the "feel" of burying someone by simply tapping A three times (with some care) and having several wonderful follow up options.

Sure, I'll add you.
Alright cool, just accepted. Join up whenever you like.
Ah, makes sense.

Definitely let me know in the future if you want to get a team match going. I fuckin' love teams. It's rare that I play with FF on, but it definitely makes it a different beast. I can appreciate it for sure.
Nice man, finally some TEAMS going! I'll definitely post in here next time.

FF on is really fun; I wish it was like that in For Glory.

Palutena kills at like 90% off of a down throw into uair.
lol, yeah. I was tempted to mention that but I figured vena was more interested in straight kills rather than combos (even if up-air is easy to land off d-throw :3 )

I usually mean like <100% lol, her back-throw will also kill at high %s and rage, lol.
you'll probably score a kill with up throw before back throw would, but yeah it's not sub 100% :P

Also, I am continually surprised when her dash attack kills at around 130%.

Wii Fit Trainer- I really want to learn how to use her but my head explodes every time I hit a button and the hitbox comes out in the other direction.
I recommend putting the time in! The only moves with really weird hot boxes are forward air and jab. I just don't use forward air, and jab hits both ways pretty well, especially once you get used to it. The rest of his moves just have short hit boxes, and Sun Salutation is too good.

Terrible grab range though.

Ok then, even though I prefer to play as all characters,

Feelin' it:

- Sonic: Always enjoyed his playstyle, I went out of my way in Brawl to change how I fight in order to master him. Also helped to quicken my reflexes somewhat. As to be expected, he's better here than before.

- Mario: Combo machine, unlike most people, I actually prefer FLUDD to his Mario Tornado. For a fat plumber, Mario sure is agile in his movements. Jack-of-all-Stats, however...

- Luigi: ...I enjoy using his younger brother more. Luigi's confusing movements and Fiery Super Jump Punch made me a huge fan of his playstyle. Just like Sonic, there hasn't been a Smash game where I don't enjoy using Luigi. Fast and powerful.

- Ike: Already like him more here than in Brawl. Really wish he had the hit sound effects from Brawl though. I love using Quick Draw, and Aether, and his final smash is one of the coolest.

- Pit: Somehow, I curb-stomped Classic-Mode with Pit. Beat 7.0 without losing a life, I hated using him in Brawl, liked him somewhat in Project M, love him in here. Upperdash Arm for the win.

- Diddy Kong: Being agile is one thing I favor in a character, and Diddy Kong is the chimp to beat them all. I prefer not to use him often since he's considered top-tier, and is exploited by every tourney player ever, but I enjoy moving around the battlefield with him.

- Bowser: After learning more about Bowser personally, I enjoyed using him in Brawl, Project M, and especially, especially this game. Keeping a character faithful to source material is one of the most important aspects to me in games, which is why someone like Ganondorf pisses me off. I do wish Bowser kept his Forward-Smash from the previous games, but oh well.

- Captain Falcon: Falcon Punch, and the Knee of Justice, in terms of attacks, you can't top that, unless it's...

- Dr. Mario: ...Dr. Mario's forward-aerial. This move is my favorite in the entire Smash Bros. franchise, and is the only reason I'm not complaining about Dr. Mario's return. It is so satisfying to sock an opponent in the jaw, and watch them fly.

Post your lists GAF.

I'm Feeling it!
- Palutena: Good air game, great jab, and a much more interesting character when you mix customs moves in. Overall she is an unique character that is not a character you just pick up and be beast with. I kinda like characters like that :P
- Duck Hunt: THE CHARACTER I DIDN'T KNOW I WANTED. So much fun to use! I need to play him more in the Wii U version.
- Dr. Mario: Some combos like Mario but with an M.D. I get he's slower and the lack of lag reducing techniques makes you have to re-think him compared to Melee, but in the right hands he can be good
- Sonic: My thoughts on him when I saw how good he was *self avatar quote*. So happy on of my fav characters ever is actually GOOD this time around! Definitely a secondary for me.
- Ness: BRUH. SO GOOD!
Although I'm not feeling the changes to his yo-yo smashes
- Link: I surprisingly like him a lot in this game. If he had the mobility like in Melee than he would be the best Link
- Falco: Hmmm..I'm warming up to him a lot more now. I'm also realizing Wolf's sacrifice was to have some of his moves absorbed into Falco, which is a double edged sword. Great aerials, stronger smashes, and even though his dair is completely different it will spike when executed correctly. Overall a decent character. Not top tier, but don't underestimate him in the right hands.
- Ganondorf. SO OLD, YET SO STRONK.

Not really feeling it...
- Olimar. Siiiiiiigh....my Brawl main. I just don't know how to use you properly in this game :/ I'm gonna keep trying though
- Luigi. Well, I know he's pretty good but I guess I just haven't put enough time in him. His recovery getting nerfed is a huge no-no for me imo.
- Toon Link: Meh. Not really feeling his cut-and-paste moveset is more like it. Make him more WW!

That's the jist of it really. Most everyone else falls somewhere in "haven't played much of them" or "They're cool and that's really it."

Approaching with Nair is good. Utilized PK Fire if you can. PK Fire into grab into down throw into fair into fair is a great combo if you can pull it off. Or substitute the fairs with uair. Carefully approaching with fair as well as ledge guarding with fair works well. Using PK Thunder while they're in the air or off stage can really trip people up and allow for good follow ups. I don't use his smash attacks too often, but I hear that his down smash is more reliable than it used to be. Also, at high percents, just back throw them. Dead.

Yeah, Dsmash got a huge buff. The low horizontal knockback is great for getting people off your back, and the fact that it hits behind Ness before hitting in front can really trip people up as they try to approach you from behind or roll around you. It's also an excellent ledge guard tool due to its powerful, multi-hitting properties. :)

Y'know, I kinda wish they'd gotten whoever voiced Little Mac in Punch-Out Wii to voice him again in Smash 4. He doesn't really sound like a 17 year old American guy in Smash 4, he just kinda sounds like an angry Japanese man. ......Oh my god! He sounds just like Piston Hondo! GUYS!! All this time, we've been playing as Piston Hondo in disguise! That would also explain why he's so fast. It all makes sense!

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed to hear him shouting "URYA" and "DORYA" like some JRPG protagonist. Maybe they didn't deem it necessary to call back his EN voice actor because Mac doesn't speak any real words?

Ever heard him say "CRRR-AZY Hand!"?

To this day, I'm still convinced that he says "Lazy Hand" in the JP version (which would be hella racist if true).

Individual Judgment. You can't make a general metric. Each player is going to be different. Sorry guy.
Tournaments are pretty much the general metric in fighting games. I like Beef's idea of ranbats. Individual judgment is the wrong way to go, and just leaves us with people bickering instead of objective data.

Game seems pretty fun, much more improved from Brawl just based off initial impressions but I need more time with it. Playing this on the gamepad is...unfun. I need the Gamecube adapter asap...barring that, the Pro Controller.

Also, I am continually surprised when her dash attack kills at around 130%.
Yeah, her dash attack is great. If it weren't for the highly punishable recovery afterwards if you don't hit the opponent/they shield it, there'd almost be no reason to use the rest of her moveset XD It comes out so fast that it's often my go-to punish. I don't pay as much attention to opponent % as I probably should but about 150% or higher it seems highly likely to kill most opponents depending on your own % and how stale it is :3

Almost all of her kills come off of reads at low %, or a dthrown into uair.
I'm not going to pretend I get a lot of kills off of up-throw but I do get some and if they're high enough % when I grab them then I'm just going to throw them off the screen rather than bother with down throw and stale my up-air even more than it already is :P

Really feeling it!:
Shulk: My main and my avatar :P I love his long range in his Monado attacks, having something to use for almost any situation via his Monado Arts, and he's just an absolute blast to play as.
Link: Link main since Melee; guess it's kinda tradition at this point lol. Much better than his Brawl version, while not quite something like P:M Link like I'd like, still a lot of fun in this game.
Ike: Similar situation to Link, but still just really fun to play as.
Greninja: While I have trouble KOing with him a tad, the water ninja is still really fun to play for me.
Pikachu: Again, I have trouble KOing with him and I probably should go for off stage KOs some more, but his quick attack movement is just so fun to mess around with.
Lucina: Struggles in quite a few matches IMO, but she's pretty aight.
Robin: I realllly don't care for his slow mobility, but he has pretty much everything I like. I really want to get good with him.
Zero Suit Samus: JUST PICK A TOP TIER. But nah, messed around with her, and I immediately found her a lot of fun. Want to get better with her.

Not feeling it:
Falco:...I know he needed nerfs, but Sakurai, you went too far. He feels SOOOO bad now.
Mac: I need my characters with at least SOME mobility lol. Just staying on the ground all the time is boring.
Palutena: Ehhh, her moves feel kinda slow. Not sure what customs to use.

Haven't really experimented with the rest of the cast tooooo much aside from the random fight here and there, though characters like Diddy I pretty much refuse to use lol.

You need a way to measure it, though! Who decides?!

The community can figure this out easily: just play with a bunch of people often. For example, most of us can say that shamrock plays a pretty good Ness and Flux has a pretty good Sonic. If enough people corroborate these claims, and they perform well in general GAF tournaments and some such, that person makes the list under said character.

Smash online is pretty much unplayable for me. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble connecting and staying lag free but out of the seven matches I've played so far I've only won one due to someone self-destructing twice at the beginning of the match.

I have no other problems in all the other online games I play and I really don't care about playing versus bots and local matches will probably only happen once every three matches.

Smash online was pretty much the reason I bought a Wii U, might just go back to Project M.

Only seven matches? Were they all with the same people? I mean, YMMV and all that, but the online is better than it is bad.

4 different people total

3DS smash is flawless for me but the Wii U has been nothing but heartache so far.

Nothing like going from 9.0, to 8.5, to 8.0 because master fortress pingpongs you into acid.

What an annoying fight.

Thanks for volunteering to run them! ;)

NONONO, ABSOLUTELY NOT

I like this idea, but I don't actually know the rules behind a ranbat. Do you know of a good link?

rgqppJU.gif

For a length of time, once a week (or more, depends on the set schedule), everyone plays against one person, randomly selected in their "block." Wins/losses/draws have point values, and are assigned as needed. After the ranbat "season" is over, points are tallied, and standings are finalized.

That's the gist of it, at least. Additional rules are sometimes applied (character locks, etc), but this varies from each event.

How do blocks work?

I don't know what;s going on, but it's not letting me connect to the Nintendo Network ;'[

I'm going to get off for a bit I guess. I'll post here if there's more teams going on.

If anyone is having trouble with Cruel Multi-man, just pick a character with a counter. Since they are so aggressive and do such high damage they destroy themselves.
