I suspect it can be the result of their widespread expansion.
MCU is pretty tame in comparision. They have shows on ABC, which is owned by their parent company and then deal with Netflix, which is a lot more flexible than typical channels.

With DC they are spreading to pretty much every network and I suspect their contracts grant exclusivity of some content to networks. No network wants to spend money building and promoting something only to have rival use the very same thing a week later.
When Constantine was in production Goyer suggested NBC obtained exclusivity on occult side of the universe. I suspect the real reason why Arrow can't namedrop Gotham and Metropolis might be because Fox got exclusivity on the first one and CBS obtained one of the second.

I agree. I like crossovers, but at the same time I want them contained. Just couple connected shows is optimal IMO. Allows you do have all the benefits of continuity and crossovers, while avoiding the problems having everything connected can cause.

That's why I think Supergirl might end up problematic. Despite the power difference a team up of Flash and Arrow works really well. Flash isn't full on God and can be surprised/hurt, so Oliver can still genuinelly help him, plus he can be brutal vigilante, which allows him to get some results the boy scout Barry won't ever be able to achieve. Supergirl seems a bit overpowered to join that trio and throws Arrow into useless category. But that's just the initial impression. I trust those showrunners to pull it off somehow, they never failed me so far

It actually works here though. Barry has enough to do in his own city with the meta humans running wild, he's always on alert if one appears, he can't just run patrol anywhere else. For bigger threats - there were none since Barry became Flash. We'll see if he pays a visit in the future.

They could simply depower Supergirl so she's not a physical god like Superman, but is powerful on the level of Barry. Can't be everywhere at once, way stronger than both, but magnitudes slower than Barry, senses aren't as crazy acute, constantly has to deal with alien problems, while Barry deals with metas, and Oliver deals with ground-level threats.

But still, it can get problematic to a degree. All three would really have to complement each other. Right now, Barry and Ollie do, but a third party that outstrips both of them in power is problematic.

I think the Arrowverse is fine-- what I meant was that I was glad that there wasn't a tie into Superman, Batman, and everything else.

They got it right here. I think the MCU is on the verge of going too far. And comic books are a complete disaster.

Comic books are an impenetrable fortress for many.

It is the hardest question to answer, "Where do I start?"

And I do think MCU (And DCCU) may end up that way, which is also why I don't watch AoS w/ any expectations of it being impactful on the movie-verse because that is demanding a lot of your audience.
 
MCU will be fine because they won't make TV required. Though with last nights Flash, I'm a bit worried about the Arrowverse, especially if they end up bringing Supergirl into it.

Originally I thought that crossovers would be mostly superficial cameos. Spoilers related to past and possibly future Arrow plot:
But dropping that bomb about Ollie's kid was pretty huge.

Yeah, the MCU could've handled some things better. Ironman 3 was particular strange. They need to stick to smaller scale villains in solo stories, when they become world or even "just" country threatening it's clearly time to call in help from other heroes. I am scared that this will be a issue if they introduce Supergirl as a cosmic level hero. I'd rather seen a Zatanna tv series. We're seriously lacking in magic and fishnets atm.

Well not spoilers since the ep aired, but it kind of makes sense since we know she doesn't live in Starling City would be weird for her to randomly show up there.

And you'll be sure they'll recap it when she shows up on Arrow next.

I think that's a minor thing though.

Well I spoilered it just in case there are some Flash fans that haven't seen Arrow that are interested in going back and watching it. Playing it safe.

And while I agree that at the moment it's relatively minor (since it won't likely be put into play soon), what makes me worry is the precedent it sets for plot points of one show to be revealed on different shows. Making them all mandatory to watch.

And I think the creators understand that, which is one of the reasons there are currently no other crossover eps scheduled for the rest of the season.

I'm sure something will happen on Arrow tonight that ties back into The Flash in some fashion
 
Is there a S01E09 - The Man in the Yellow Suit promo yet?

Are they waiting until Part 2 of this crossover is out of the way perhaps?

I feel like it's coming a little too soon. I would have loved to see Eddie slowly become more and more obsessed with stopping the guy that nearly beat him to death and then jumping at the opportunity to gain the means to match the Flash's abilities towards the end of the season.

I also curious whether Ollie would have been able to control or channel his rage had he been hit with Mr Angry Eyes. If they're really going to go all in with Arrow = Batman, I'd love to see more instances of Ollie being tested mentally and coming out on top.

So, Iris champions The Flash for months, creating a blog to oracle on how awesome he is and then, even after he explains the circumstances, she turns on him after one incident?

I get that he attacked her fiancé, but it's not like he's the love of her life? Up until the incident in this episode she had the biggest crush on the flash. They should have at least had some distrust or something to build up to a sudden 180 like this.

It's not like she actually envisioned being with The Flash. If anything, the incident made her aware of just how dangerous powered up individuals can be.
 
Incredible episode. Can't post detailed impressions right now, but everything about this episode was on point.

So damn good.

Few points,

That Ollie prep. Batman would be proud and jealous...

Flash totally had the fight won. He clearly held back.

Diggle was hilarious. Like, oh my god, where has this Dig been hiding?

I'm as steeped in comic books as anybody, or at least I was. I've all but given up in the last couple years, but rea them for decades. And for decades, I could see this long slow slide into one big mass rather than individual books, to the detriment of most of them.

I could go for that.

MCU has managed to keep it together, far better than I expected. But at some point it's going to get past my tolerance level.
 
I think we can all agree that cape comics suffer greatly when management pushes big cross overs and events. So far, it seems like Marvel & DC have kept the other mediums pretty clean. The MCU movies are solid so far, I can ignore Agents and it seems like the Netflix shows will also exist in their own little portion of the MCU. Until I see if Supergirl can be as good as Arrow / Flash, I hope it doesn't cross over into the DCTVU. I would much rather have the CW team handle the female-fronted fork of the trinity... really looking forward to that role being filled.

Zatanna on CW featuring Zsu Zsu Starr. Now that I can get behind.
 
This week was epic, and next week looks even more epic.

I don't know if my body is ready for all this goodness between Arrow and The Flash.

As with the man of steel reference the other week, I like to think Wells is intentionally making jokes about other superheroes that only he would get what with his future knowledge. He'll probably make an Amazonian reference before the end of season 1.

Let's speculate. If that truck hadn't come around the corner, how would the fight have progressed? I imagine that Barry could get out of a chokehold without much difficulty by vibrating or spinning or running up a wall or something. And he seemed to have some new tricks up his sleeves, like vibrating the tranquilizer out of his system and the speed punch blitz
