Metaknight combo. Dash attack to a bunch of up-airs to Up-B. Killed at 58%. It doesn't look like they could have gotten out of it.

Yes, its a fantastic combo... but its next to impossible to pull off because of how janky the hit-box is on the uair. Also I believe you can somewhat DI out of it.

Is that an exception for characters that get hit like Sheik? MK is one of my mains and I have a hell of a time hitting all of those up-airs.

More like frame-perfect timing and a lack of DI, I don't think weight would matter.

any advice on escaping items that their only goal is to take you offstage for a KO?
(besides not getting hit by them obviously)

aka
Drill arm...try to shield/DI, jump...and I just get shot/carried off the side
Galaga...I think it says to wiggle, but if I get caught, I almost never escape (am good at dodging the initial attack now though)
Beetle...wiggle again?
Even the mini pikmin rocket ship I have gotten caught on the top and couldn't get off before being taken off the top of the screen.

I am not a fan of these items at all.

That was hilarious.

Honestly, I don't know if I would throw boomerang there.

I've seen the gale boomerang backfire more often than not. That's one of the worst uses I've seen. I don't even think Little Mac could have made it back on stage.

Edit: I really would like a mode in training that displays hit boxes so that there's less of a question as to where certain moves hit. I doubt it will happen under Sakurai, but it would still be great to see.

Yeah, he could have just done nothing and let Mac fall looking at the distance he was from the stage. He could have also just fired an arrow instead if he really wanted to make sure lol.

This almost makes me wanna play Metaknight. Almost.

I was playing with some dude in the morning, and he was playing very "meh" overall, but his Metaknight lowered me one stock using exactly that combo.

Yeah, 8-player Smash is something that I see as zany fun in short bursts, but it's not something I'd ever want to commit to playing regularly. Honestly, I'm not even that big a fan of 4-player FFA, and much prefer team battles when playing with that many.

I like teams in 4 player as well, I think an extension of that works fine if you can manage to set it up. 4v4, 3v3, maybe 2v2v2v2.

I do think the 8 player FFA-fest classic can become gets way too hectic though. I played through a lot of classic in co-op and more than anything the limited stage selection on that many players stuck out more than anything. I realllllly don't like Yoshi's Island for it.

Got pretty rekt in my first 1v1 FG attempts, but some games were reasonably close. The last one had obscene amounts of lag but apparently just for me as my opponent got off every single hit perfectly. I then put the controller down for no more than 15 seconds and immediately got booted out of online for idling, that seems a bit excessive?

No way Mac makes it back from that distance if left alone.

I've had a few instances where people have tried to gimp my recovery when there was no way I was going to make it back to the stage and then had it backfire when their attack reset my up + b thus enabling me to make it back to the stage instead. But the backfire in the gif is on a completely different level.

Yeah, I would leave him alone and let him fall to doom with dignity.

Probably silly question but where do I unlock the Final Smash trophies?
Is it classic or All-Stars?

All Stars.

There's no specific singular guide but there's multiple venues on youtube you have to explore and watch. I have linked these before but I guess I'll do it again.

The Basic Fundamentals of Competitive Melee (should apply to Smash 4 barring any exclusive techniques to Melee like L-Canceling)

First Attack on the basics of Melee (also should apply to Smash 4 on some level)

Melee Advanced How to Play (this covers a WIDE RANGE of tech in Melee, from stuff that is still in Smash 4 to stuff that is not -- you should be able to identify what isn't in Smash 4 but if you need help just ask).

And then finally a good one that I like is Cosmo's introduction to Melee here

If you were looking for a more handwritten guide well... that's not likely to be around at this point. If you want specific advice, I'd suggest going to smashboards or you could try asking folks here on what you want to learn or need to learn still. We can't help you if you don't tell us anything specific.

I also recommend anyone watch those videos as well that is wanting to get somewhere skill-wise. You might expand your knowledge and learn something new, you never know.
A little late, but thank you for the response!

Some of these techniques are really hard to do well... What stuff, exactly, isn't in the game still? I'm watching the three-part "Advanced How To Play" videos by Wak017... I know that L-Cancelling is gone, but what about Wavedashing/landing?

Gone. Dash dancing is mostly gone as well.

Pivoting is still around though, and it's easier.

This game doesn't have much focus on specific techniques, as just knowing your fundamentals and your character well.

I was playing for glory against this one Rosalina who, any time we weren't in direct contact, would constantly maintain a dash on one side of the stage, pivoting back and forth after dashing in one direction for a bit. It got to the point where I'd just sit there and watch him. I SD'd on purpose my second life. I aint got time for that shit.

[Edit] Haha literally 80% of the characters I play are E. "Okay Japan."

Japanese tier list, what do you think ?[/QUOTE]

Isn't it still way, way, way too soon to make a tier list?

Also why is Dr. Mario so far down compared to Mario? Aren't they pretty much the same thing; does the fireball really make that big of a difference or is there a different reason? Same for Dark Pit and Pit.

Managed to pick up a bundle today...called my local GS and they still had a copy, but no one had called to put it on hold yet

Gonna have to rematch some of you w/ the GCN controller!

It's from a tweet don't know the real source.

Personally I think that Link is clearly underrated, his smash attack are powerful (dat Usmash), dash attack is good, aerials are decent, tilt can kill and special is extremely good for spacing.

Also, I always thought that Dark Pit was better than Pit, what makes Pit much better ?

All a tier list does is document who wins the most with who. It's possible that Dark Pit just wasn't played a lot, or was played by shitty people. It's why these lists are useless. They're descriptive, they tell you what happened, but they are absolutely not instructive.

And Dr Mario is a slower/stronger Mario, beyond moveset differences (fair, dair, fsmash, all four specials, etc). The lack of speed can be a kicker sometimes.

I was wondering the very same. I'm under the impression Dark Pit hits harder and Pit doesn't have any noteworthy advantage, though I could be wrong.

Plus, his arm is way cooler. Out of so many arms in Uprising, why did they pick THAT for him....?

This game is well enough balanced that I really won't be taking any tier list that has more than five categories too seriously. I also won't be considering any tier lists that are compiled within the first year of the game's release. Geez.
