Haha, yea I think we would've had a crash if that happened. The larger portion around here went with a PS4 which is why we're OK, but I know a lot of my Xbone friends are going to be pissed! Better be timed exclusive for their sake, but even that isn't good enough, they'll need it in their veigns on day 0. At least PC is an option

Looks like a high res version of SFIV. II > Alpha > III > IV all looked very different and this looks like the annual expansion pack.
I hope they don't "Smash Bros" this series and mechanically make the same game for the next 13 years with some tweaks.

Maybe you are right. I thought SF4 did pretty good? I know I own three different versions of it and only two Dark Souls. Anyways, glad to see this get announced one way or the other.

maybe but if its releasing around the same time as uncharted it would get dwarfed by that on ps4 so maybe ms having it exclusive + marketing the hell out of is better for the franchise. we all know its going to release on ps4+pc down the line anyway

SFIV came out over five years ago - six if you count arcades. Assuming SFV isn't coming out tomorrow, the gap between SFIV and SFV is longer than the gap between Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure, longer than the gap between Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess (considerably longer than the gap between Ocarina and Wind Waker), longer than the space between every Uncharted game, every Assassin's Creed game, and could theoretically approach the distance between SF3 and SF4, considering the longest hiatus in series history when it was put on ice.
Why, exactly, is this too soon?

Yeah, SF4 was on a ton of platforms.
Maybe Ono wanted to make a true current-gen game but Capcom thought the installed base is going to be low for PS4/XBO, hence they didn't green light SFV at the time of the interview last year. Now that they've seen the PS4 sales (both in hardware and software) and maybe with Sony helping out, they decided it's financially viable to bring the game forward.
While I couldn't be more happy to see proof that Street Fighter 5 is actually happening, my enthusiasm is tempered quite a bit by the following:
- console exclusivity -> even if I will personally follow this game to whichever platform it goes to, exclusivity of this type in general is never really good for expanding on a game's user base, especially in a genre that needs more new people coming in. In this case it might have been unavoidable though, if it's indeed a Bayonetta 2 + Nintendo funding scenario;
- too similar art style to SF4 -> which - unlike many here it seems - I did like, but still would have gladly seen replaced by something different and fresh involving leaner / differently stylized characters;
- possibly similar roster / time line to SF4's -> my biggest disappointment by far is if they are indeed simply going for safety by getting the literal SF2 cast in there again. At least make them older or younger or something!
It might make less business sense, but overall I'd much, MUCH rather see them pull a SF3 reboot with a mostly new cast and new visual style and overall atmosphere than doing another SF2 throw back in line with SF4. This series needs to keep reinventing itself to some degree as to not grow stale quickly, especially if it is indeed close to a predecessor that has been re-released so many times and so recently too.
It's a bit too early to tell of course, but them not using Alex or a new character next to a familiar (but ideally at least slightly changed) main stay is not really reassuring me that Capcom is still willing to take some innovative risks on this franchise. A big part of my fun with SF4 was seeing how each character came back in the new engine and art style, but they can't do that again without changing things up some more compared to SF4's by now overly well-established standard.
Mixed emotions for this SF fan, in other words...but still happy overall SF5 is indeed real.
Edit: We also still have to find out who is directing it (Ono?) and who is developing it of course (Dimps?). Hope they will have someone like Seth Killian on board again to help design the fighting system itself.

Both of these were business decisions. No dev/publisher is going to pass up a free truck of cash. Both Capcom and SE have claimed "they don't have the money" to develop one of their biggest franchises on their own.
This is either stupid for both, or stupid for neither.

I wonder if the "Rise Up" tagline (and the clip of Chun-Li and Ryu getting vertical) indicates the aerial game will play a bigger role in SFV than previous versions.
Visually, SF4 came a long way from its initial reveal to final release. I cannot wait to see how SFV looks at launch.

So now my main questions are what mechanics have been added, and what has been removed? I saw Ryu charging up at one point during the trailer, but it didn't look like a focus attack--it almost looked like he was popping Instinct, LOL.
