One of the reasons I love this so much is that it allows for art to be showcased in an award. We are always saying how much of an art games are, and this is an award worthy of creating a work of art. Just because it's not a controller, doesn't mean it isn't a worthy gaming award.
 
Having the award look cool and look like it's actually worth something is half the battle in terms of credibility.

They nailed this one.
 
Thats a great design. I do hope this show is done well, For geoff and also for the community as a whole. It would be nice if this became a big event that honored gaming in a serious manner.

I like that the meaning is noticeable if you "get it" without having to read about what it means, while at the same time being somewhat ambiguous. Perfection.
 
Very beautiful...as one would expect of the Weta Workshop.

Strikes me as a prize to be respected, as opposed to some monkey or whatever.
 
While I'm still a little worried about the event as a whole, this award looks amazing. The design turned out much better than I dared hope for!

Everything seems to be going right in terms of organization this time. I really hope this'll be a huge success, so that it can become a yearly thing.

Is this going to be the trophy given out every year for these things here on out, or is this a one off for this year? Seems like they are trying to make the game version of the Oscars, though I do not really follow this stuff.
 
That's a really cool design. I like the idea that it's like a timeline of the visual evolution of games, with blocky pixels at the bottom, a polygonal look at the middle, and a more realistic look at the top.

I'm pretty sure that's what we're all going to be colloquially referring to them from this point onwards, presuming that it goes off without a hitch and Geoff manages to make this more of an annual kind of thing.

The guys over at GameTrailers are definitely calling it that for fun, and it seems to work. There is definitely a bit of a cult of personality that surrounds Geoff - but in this case, it's working to his benefit, and he definitely seems interested in turning all prior expectations on their head.
 
Very classy trophy with actual thought and meaning put into the design. I really hope the game awards do well for Keighly. It seems he's taken the criticism of past VGAs and VGX and trying to make a more professional award show while still keeping the "WORLD EXCLUSIVE TRAILERS" to appease the ones that don't give a fuck about rewarding and praising the creators and just want more and more things to put on a list of what they want to buy. If they can get it on the BAFTA level with everyone in nice suits, professionalism and all that with a trailer or announcement thrown in every other award or something then I think it'll be goo.

Also, I quite like the VGA monkey, not as some prestigious award, but as a nice, fun, not serious thing. It's more about "hey we're about fun and games" rather than "this is about rewarding artists" that this award says. Different tones for hopefully different style award shows.
