The Game Awards trophy unveiled, made by Weta Workshop

I hope this becomes as highly regarded in the industry as a grammy/oscar. The gaming community needs something big like that. At least I think so.

i dunno, this monkey is pretty sweet

Yuk. It looks like it's made for kids. This new one looks clean, and professional.

Was kinda hoping for a trophy of Geoff holding a trophy of Geoff holding a trophy :(

The new design is sweet but really reminds me of a hood ornament.

That's the point.

Also the Oscar's name came on its own. Perhaps we should let the winners make one up over time.

So glad this event isn't tied to a bunch of Spike bullshit and other marketing efforts trying to make the ceremony entertaining to morons.

Finally an award that looks like, wel, an actual award given to people that have invested a lot of time and effort into making something great.

And not that 99 cents store crap they had before

One of the reasons I love this so much is that it allows for art to be showcased in an award. We are always saying how much of an art games are, and this is an award worthy of creating a work of art. Just because it's not a controller, doesn't mean it isn't a worthy gaming award.
Didn't say it needed to be a controller, dude. I'm just not sure how much it's really showcasing the art of games when the award is cribbing notes from other notable award statues. Something more distinct to gaming would have been my preference, but this is still a nice design, like I said.

Honestly? I suspect TGA would wind up being the VGAs in a tuxedo, and will present no challenge to the British Academy in terms of esteemed video gaming awards.

Hell, the BAFTAs are the only video game awards worth a damn.

This is actually quite clever. Starting with a representation of low resolution pixels at the bottom, over finer resolution pixels to low poly, and then high poly/ curved surfaces at the top. Basically representing the history and progression of the medium. I like it.

This is leaps & bounds over that monkey one that looked more like it was given away at Nick's Kids Choice Awards. It's so classy. Sure hope the level of class the trophy has matches the TGA.

there should be room for both, baftas are very formal and never seem to catch on in america. a less formal but still respectable event with a look at the year ahead doesnt sound so bad.

I think thats what they were talking about in the weta video. I agree i think it works great.
