The Game Awards 2014 Thread: Keighley unveils, less McHales

Geoff's suit looks nice. Have to say this is pretty close to the professionalism shown in major televised award shows while having some silliness that is fitting of the game industry. Really well done so far.

Ok, I'll break down what I think so far.

This is an honest attempt at making a true to gamers game show, by Geoff. He fronted the cost up front. He couldn't get all the expensive pros to run the sound, and the cuts, and all the other technical stuff. He gives a shit though. And it shows. All of the things in this show I give more of a shit about than the abomination that was last years VGAs.

I appreciate this from Geoff. I wish more people made an attempt like he is.

This, at least feels, genuine.

Exactly.

He should be talking about Dead Space, not a BF4 expansion pack

As a geeky gamer nerd, I've never seen Battelfield Hardline ®. It's fast and furious, hanging out of windows and shooting things, I'm very exited to finally see this in action.

What's your opinion about this PS4 title?

These camera angles are hilarious. You can tell Geoff didn't have much money to put into this with all the constant ads and poor direction.

Well that's not what I really wanted. Way too much an ad for future games rather than looking back at the past year of games.

So fast, so fun.

It seems like they shifted Battlefield Hardline well enough away from the tone-deaf militarized police theme to a TV cop drama.

Am I the only one that liked the Before trailer?

It seems like a cool mix of Tail of the Sun and more current survival games. Too bad it has been completely upstaged by Ancel's Wild being revealed just a few months ago.

^will never be pleased by whatever anyone puts together

I'm not talking about this show in particular. This is what it is - an event that publishers have agreed to where advertising comes first and foremost, sprinkled with some neat stuff here and there. Even this performance going on now is essentially a big advert.

But like, there is potentially room for a serious awards show. And like somebody mentioned, they exist and are ignored (by me also). Or more realistically, this industry just isn't particularly conducive to awards shows like this. It's more about churning up hype.

Yeah, I'm with you. It has its problems, but this is much, much better that any VGA so far.

It can be polished though.
