The Game Awards 2014 Thread: Keighley unveils, less McHales

Very strong final half of the show. Thanks Geoff, cut out some of the trailers of the games we know next year and focus on more awards and stories.

Odd to see Koji playing with Imagine Dragons. Like this shouldn't actually be happening in this world, this plane of existence.

WOOOOOOOOO!

Man I'm a diehard Nintendo and Zelda fan, but that footage was really disappointing. Sure it's huge but so barren! Horses looked great though.

Why did it never show us it fullscreen? We know how to play these games, show us the game!

Poetic justice after all these CG trailers.

A human being playing a video game.

Densely wooded forest. Not really :/

Also. At least they didn't play that welcome to the new age song haha this was tastefully understated

Horse head and hair got some jank to it. It looks a little rough but im glad they showed off something. That massive map alone kind of sold me on it.

First of all, that was probably the worst display of a game I've ever seen. It's my least favorite Zelda game at this point.

Secondly, this song is the new Zelda theme? This game is going to suck so bad.

Nintendo has lost it, truly.

What the hell is this post?

For Geoff's first solo effort at an awards show without the Spike fuckery, it was pretty damn good. Hiccups abound, but I wouldn't be averse to another show next year, especially if it is of the quality shown in the second half.

Just make it shorter!

My favorite part of the Zelda showing were all the White horses running along with Epona at the end. Love the animation.

I doubt they would want to show off any NPC's yet.

I'm very interested in the combat. The attack off horse looked nice but I wish the ground combat would evolve.

lol at the hate for the dragon age win.

The game had me obsessed with it for 80 hours, and was a return to form for Bioware's DA team after Dragon Age II. If your game didn't win that's a shame but don't downplay how this game was a shining beacon amongst a craptacular year of gaming.

We all have to buy the limited edition PS4 after the keynote tomorrow. Time for bed now. Intl Econ final in the morning. ugh

it has been fun!

Night Gaf

There was an honest effort to improve over previous years, but it still feels too much like a mini conference instead of an award show. What was revealed was fine and all, but it felt as it all needed a speck of polish.

7/10. Good start, but needs improvement.

I really wish developers would stop with these gyro/motion controls in games ... they never work properly and they're just not an enjoyable part of the experience ...

Edit: I will admit, though, that spray painting in Infamous was OK ...

They really helped my sister in Wind Waker. she just can't aim with right stick well. Especially while moving.

2nd half was great.
Great job, Keighley, so much feel in this show. Much much better. Very few cringeworthy moment. 8/10

/clap.

If you have given more time to awards instead of giving them backstage, the show would have been 9/10.

GAF you're actually breaking me right now.

This has been head and shoulders above any VGA or VGX, with some genuinely major reveals, and yet there is so much negative feedback. Hopefully people will feel better about it in a few days.

Geoff, you did great, hopefully you refine the formula by next year and the next Game Awards are even more special.

Gamers are funny

"Wont be happy unless the Nintendo reveal is something major"

-shows new Zelda footage, confirms 2015 release date, and mentions Star Fox also.

"Game looks bad, not good enough."

Ok then.

I dunno I liked it I had an audible "Holy Fuck" even from off screen gameplay.
