Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

Can't believe some of the posts I'm reading in here. Possible on the PS3? Just NO.

Anyways, the game looks fucking unreal. When Nate swung on the rope and dropped on the guy I was like daaaaamn!

This comparison is so stupid. Different time and weather condition ( WD with rain in night was amazing ) and difference in image quality.

Yeah it reminds me of all those watchdogs comparisons, but back then I thought it was just classic Ubi hate (which is still sad but have learned to shrug it off). The fact that it's also happening with Naughty Dog shows we have a problem. Not that they're above criticism (I'm myself very vocal about all the things I hate about TLOU), but this is simply not a valid point.

Look at Infamous Second Son, look at Batman Arkham Knight, this is the gen where everything looks better at night and with rain.

There's no shiny wet effects and rain reflections to show when different ligthing occurs and it's simply not raining, it's just normal.

Now I'm sure the graphics will get better as the game is developed (duh), so there is room for improvement, but that comparison is just silly.

I can't wait to see the finished versions of these animations. Nathan's legs just freeze in place as he grabs the guy.

Looks incredible. The only thing missing is some tesselation on those rocks.

Yeah, the rock formations don't look natural. They have that low-poly, overly angular look we saw in the previous Uncharted games.

Still, overall the game is definitely one of the best looking upcoming games.

Well.. that sure looked boring. I skipped Uncharted 3 cause I was pretty burnt out on the formula after 2, this sure ain't lookin any different.

Be wary of showfloor gameplay trailers from Sony though. Remember TLoU's E3 gameplay demo? Fool me once Naughty Dog! Fool me fucking once...
True that. But if they keep to that demonstrated level of enemy AI and reactions they'll have something absolutely amazing. Where TLOU didn't quite reach it's target it did establish a pretty solid baseline to expand upon.

The gameplay and level design looked nicely dynamic here. Made The Order look even more underwhelming.
Couldn't help but think the same thing.

Yup. Of all the TPS games ( Order, Quantam Break and others ) finally we are getting something that seems to have great gameplay. Super dynamic, lots of options and gorgeous locations to boot. So excited for this game!

For the first time ever I was absolutely stunned by an UnCharted game. It's not just that the graphics look well, but the world seems alive, fleshed out and has amazing scale and atmosphere. Really felt the vibes throughout the whole thing.

That's what I'm wondering as well. If they downgraded the expected framerate, now would be the time to reveal it and get ahead of the impending disappointment.

The gameplay looked excellent to me (the R1 swinging mechanic looked great), but the graphics and framerate looked pretty early. They've created the best looking console games in the past, so hopefully their streak continues on the PS4. It's a little weird that Ready at Dawn have them beat in the graphics department, although I'd argue that it's probably the helping hands of Santa Monica that have made The Order such a gorgeous game.
Not so sure about that anymore. Order has a great color palette and sense of atmosphere, but Uncharted is just shooting for a much grandiose sort of presence. It's more saturated, definitely, but for what it's aiming for, it looks phenomenal.

Trying to say which of the two looks better comes down to what color palette and art style you prefer, honestly. Objectively they're about neck-and-neck but I'd give the edge to UnCharted now simply b/c of how much larger its environments are and how all of that is in real-time and explorable.

Can someone re-host the Gamersyde video? The torrent is ridiculously slow.

Their stream work very well and has really 0 quality loss, so you can still watch that (and wait for it to download as a direct download) if bittorrent isn't doing it for you.

Drake now carries a rope and some tools he carries. That was my idea! It never made sense to me how he made use of conveniently placed ropes and items for an adventurer

Uh he's pushing the guy, which would mean his legs would lock with his back using the wall to force with his arms. The legs look pretty okay.

Did anybody watch the YT upload? Game is beautiful as fuck, Twitch definitely did damage to the user's perception. Also, they've managed to cut out the glitch and juxtapose the re-played 2nd half segment.

But the game is absolutely above UC in terms of gameplay. Very open in it's approach, AI is far more believable and the gunplay looks insanely fun. I expected a pop-in, pop-out shooter, far from it - it's TLOU IN STEROIDS! Highlight of the show. Although they've got your typical UC tropes like conveniently broken ledges, auto-platforming and all but neu-Drake seems very weighted now and not a simplified floating texture from its previous incarnations.

Best moment about this, is the lack of a fucking explosive set-piece. THANK YOU ND! Because that dynamic gunplay, AI, verticality and multiple assault/stealth approach and of course the beautiful CQC transitional animations is all that I needed to see. I'm getting very similar vibes from MGSV desert gameplay reveal. ND is in top form today and while the 30fps encode is disappointing (it's smooth on YT stream), I absolutely cannot wait hoping to make it to 60fps.

I need to know what you're watching because I sure as hell don't remember Uncharted being played like this.

Oh my god.
It still looks good it's just obvious that the game isn't finished yet since we're quite far from release. I'm not berating the game or saying that the animation should be done at this stage. Geez. Don't be so eager to defend every aspect of this demo guys.

I was expecting it to look more vibrant. I don't know if the lighting is to blame or the fact that the video I saw wasn't direct feed and really compressed but the games colors looked pretty muted overall. The screencaps people are posting look more vibrant to me. I'm gonna have to check out the gamersyde video.

That looked fucking gobsmacking.

That opening exploration and stillness, emanating early Tomb Raider games' atmosphere and ambience.

That verticality, that only-in-Uncharted blend of traversal directly into the combat scenarios, and that blend of opportunistic stealth within those combat encounters rather than as an on/off switch in most games.

That flow between shooting, jumping, melee, grenades, climbing, hiding and taking cover and back to pure exploration.

Fuck. THIS is how you make a trailer to sell me on a game. Open gameplay bliss wedded to great performance capture and beautifully realized environments.

PS: Naughty Gods, please bring back co-op modes ala Uncharted 2 and I'll buy four copies :)

Definitely. Even after the E3 reveal, I didn't find the idea of UC4 that exciting at all. Glad it was coming, figured it would be cool, but not one of the main games I was looking forward to. But this demo not only changed that completely, it also revitalized my excitement for the entire goddamn genre.

Well done, Naughty Dog. Well done.

I never played too much uncharted (didn't have a ps3) but I don't remeber the encounters being that dynamic. Is it because I am not intimately familiar with the series or is UC4 wider in terms of encounter design?

Looks like the platforming and stealth mechanics have both gotten some much-needed additions, but dear god the level design in this clip was just astonishingly good - so open and full of different approaches to every area. Up there with the best stuff in UC2 for sure, if not better.

I'm glad to see that the melee combat is looking a lot better than UC3's overly-signposted junk melee while keeping some of the contextual dynamism of the animations.

A good chunk of them in UC2 are roughly that dynamic, but for the most part they've been smaller and more linear than this (and ended solely by killing all enemies).

People saying the hair is different in the E3 model...it kind of looks like they have applied some blur to it. I think the model looks the same overall..

I mean, he's obviously locking his legs in place to use as leverage for pulling the guy towards him. It looks perfectly fine. Just sounds like veiled criticism by nitpicking something for the sake of nitpicking.

Don't be so eager to defend every aspect of this demo guys.
Oh god, the edit is even better. Complete lack of self awareness there.

Love the accuracy of ND's foliage interaction system. Reminds me of the one in the original Crysis. Check out this bit, for instance.

Game looks amazing, loving the more open level design and gameplay as well as the greater emphasis on stealth. I'm a big UC fan, but this looks so much more dynamic than the previous games in the series.

Also, some of you guys cannot be serious claiming this looks like a PS3 game.

Looks pretty cool. I enjoyed Golden Abyss which is the only Uncharted game I've played. I hope for a collection so I can play all three before this one.

I'm not really too big on the graphics though. The direction some of these 8th gen games take to look more realistic makes them look fake. It's technically better obviously, but I feel like it's a step back when trying to capture of elements of real life.
