Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

There is quite some difference tho
WGL1VrI.jpg

  • Different more squat face (probably to better bridge the gap between UC3 drake and the one from the teaser)
  • Different hair model (allot more polygonal compared to the teaser trailer) and different rendering shader.
  • Angular segments in gun holster strap compared to teaser
  • Different seam on the shoulder

I don't say that the game does not look insanely good, but saying the difference is purely lighting and wetness of our drake here is crazy talk.

Don't care about quality but new Drake definitely looks better.
Actually looks a lot more like Drake now.

Climb shoot punch, climb shoot punch. Ridiculous one-handed leap to distant rock, snappy line. You're gonna really have to elaborate on what's meaningfully different about how the game was being played.

There are improvements to the gameplay, but is it worth going into detail with someone who boils gameplay down the simplest mechanics and calls it the same?

By experience of the internet i've learn that people always see the wrong things in graphics.

I'm pretty sure the same game with lower poly count, some weaker assets here and there, and .. a more contrasted/realistic look with black shadows and some effects like grain or stuff would look ten time better for most people.

Anyway what i mean is that i think the game right now suffers from not enough contrast and light shadows.

But the reality is that the work here is insane. The distance of view, the millions of details on animations, the dynamism.. They really nailed that "i'm in a friggin action movie scene" feeling to me. There is enough happening, with enough variety and fluidity to make it really work. I've never had that feeling in Uncharted before.

Exactly how I feel atm. The E3 showing was neat but nothing special. This demo's made me realize how much I underestimated them.

It's not even about the graphics really, tho they're tops. It's that sense of child-like adventure I got from watching it that's convinced me. There's something very Nintendo-like in there, and that's not as weird to say as I thought it'd be.

I was thinking to myself "...this game looks like tons of fun..." (besides looking great) while watching the trailer. Guess I wasn't the only one.

Ummmm. so this is awkwardly embarrassing to confess.. but after all my critisisng I actually went and saw the god damn video. Lol, the screenshots just don't do this game justice at all. It's how fluent the different things in the game perform, like the foilage, the surfaces or even the clothing that really sticks out. This does look very much better than UC123. My bad. (oops?)

No that is good. Admitting misconceptions is fine and shouldn't be embarrasing at all. The most impressive scene for me in the whole thing is just before he looks at the waterfall at the beginning the cliffs look like a goddamn work of art. Incredible.

Again.
In-engine/in-game.
See MGS for more info.

Loads of very nice animations and the gameplay space was very cool.

If my playthrough felt this natural when I played where I don't notice any boundaries while navigating the 3D space then they have another hit on their hand.

After watching the gamersyde video, it looks bloody amazing. Superb work by Naughty Dog, world comes together perfectly and with variety.

All is forgiven. As long as you confess your mistake I don't think it's a problem. Kudos

Maybe its just me, but the series needs more exploration.

Not talking Fallout 3 open world exploration, but a lot less linear than UC3 was.

I am glad I am not the only one that realized this. After watching this I realized I missed Drake for far too long. Sorry Joel you are good and all but Drake will always be my favorite.

Love the demo. The graphics did look lower quality than the reveal but this is still one of the best looking games I have ever seen. The combat looks like a nice evolution of the older games and it's nice to see the humour and charm of the series is still there.

Also Nolan North and Troy Baker as brothers in the same game. Brilliant.

Game looks amazing. Good work ND, highlight of the show next to Bloodborne. Can't wait.

I was actually quite disappointed with Bloodborn's video. Yesterday's video was incredible, but the PSX video was kinda shit. As expected from random dungeons, I guess...

Uncharted 4 and Until Dawn were the highlights for me.

And, of course, the most important thing: SF V crossplay between PS4 and PC. That was the best thing ever.

Being able to play with my Playstation people on my PC with the stick I already own is priceless.

Exactly my thoughts.

I think those are different LODs to be honest. The one on the left is the opening to a obviously scripted sequence while the right is the opening to an actual gameplay sequence.

Either way I think its a terrible comparison. I don't even know how you compared the hair rendering when so much detail is crushed in the darkness of the OG scene. And the one on the left obviously has a bit more maps applied due to him being "wet" and seemingly damaged.

Honestly, graphics-wise the game doesn't appear to be mindblowing, but the level and combat design is a huge step forward for this series. The way the combat sequence unfolded really makes me hope that the blatantly obvious, repetitive and boring shooting sequences are gone and replaced with this kind of dynamic and open mix of stealthy and full-fledged shooting action, it reminds me of an abstract mix between Bioshock Infinite and MGS. I had hoped that those waist hight convenient walls would be gone too, but I guess that would prove to be a too demanding task in level design and perphaps an overly intricated game for their target customers, too used to in your face hand-holding games. All in all I'm hyped for the direction Uncharted is going towards to.

Looks like the enemies have more weight to them, a al The Last of Us. Awesome. This looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Gun sounds sound better too. Can't wait!!

I will just echo what other people said, it looks nice, but it' nothing truly mindblowing. Like the new improvements in gamplay though

Yeah, it feels so good having Uncharted back. The atmosphere of the series (and Drake as he does crazy things) continues to be fantastic.

You are forgiven! Join the club! :)

I think it looks phenom. Not seeing it at 60FPS is a bummer, but as a minute to minute gameplay reveal that doesn't spoil a single set piece they've planned, its fantastic! Definitely more sandboxy with wider range of options to players like TLOU... encounters are gonna be fun as heck in this game.

More observations

Drake can't pull down people who are facing him/alerted anymore. They'll kick you back if you try for an easy ledge pull.

While stealthing, enemies off screen who are near you give off feathered indicators on the edges of the screen.

Grenade throwback isn't in this demo.

Aiming reticle is now similar to TLOU's, and has the same headshot hit marker. Previously, Uncharted games have not had head shot hit markers, but instead ding sound effects when you land headshots.

Shooting/ gun feedback and recoil looks very similar to U2's.

I'm fairly certain Drake's "big bro" is the character formerly played by Todd Stashwick, who is now replaced by Troy Baker. The character has seemingly been re-written a bit, as Stashwick's VO for the initial U4 trailer was unabashedly villainous and vengeful. Here, Drake and Bro are on friendly terms, but it's likely he's still the main adversary of Drake, but done so more ambiguously.

Guys, this is a pre alpha gameplay. It can only look BETTER than this in the final version.

It doesn't look as good as the target of last e3 but we are not at the target timeframe yet.
