Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

I noticed it too, insane attention to detail that puts every other studio to shame.

And again with the damn 30fps stuff, this is a pre-alpha build. It's amazing they have a stable build with that much gameplay at all right now.

I mean, that effect and other things are neat, but mud getting on a character model has been a thing for a while. Max Payne 3 did that in 2012.

Honestly, graphics-wise the game doesn't appear to be mindblowing, but the level and combat design is a huge step forward for this series. The way the combat sequence unfolded really makes me hope that the blatantly obvious, repetitive and boring shooting sequences are gone and replaced with this kind of dynamic and open mix of stealthy and full-fledged shooting action, it reminds me of an abstract mix between Bioshock Infinite and MGS. I had hoped that those waist hight convenient walls would be gone too, but I guess that would prove to be a too demanding task in level design and perphaps an overly intricated game for their target customers, too used to in your face hand-holding games. All in all I'm hyped for the direction Uncharted is going towards to.

It instantly reminded me of Crysis' encounters. And I really really love the first Crysis.

I must say I'm actually really impressed with this. It looks great considering how early it is in its development. Great attention to the small details and some wonderful vistas I can only imagine how they'll only improve on in the coming year. What really impressed me though is they've clearly been listening to criticism on the encounter design and auto-climbing. Ironically enough the climbing is a little more like TR which is great and it looks a little more nuanced than it did previously. One of my major complaints with the Uncharted series is the encounter design is downright awful. It seems like they've lifted a lot from Last of Us to make encounters varied in significantly larger areas. That coupled with naturalistic animations, great foliage and light stealth has restored my faith in the gameplay.

The game could be something special. Especially if they get it running at 60FPS.

Hey guy's

I hate to be that guy, but did anyone think of downgrade when the Uncharted 4 Demo was shown?

Although the graphical fidelity and gameplay were absolutely terrific, i could not stop thinking on what we were shown at E3 earlier this year and what we being shown now. Below is just a comparison of the in game cut scene.

I should have added as a whole, the attention to detail puts other studios to shame. Such as the gif with drake up against the rock with the water falling on him.

It's a pre-alpha build and this looks like more of a completed product than half the shit that gets released now days.

I assume it will be smoother at release obviously, it looked kinda rough with the framerate. Also seems pretty boring but once the action started, that looked incredibly fun.

It looks like they put back more hit feedback on enemies thankfully, which they tossed out the window in UC3 largely as enemies just could take multiple pistol rounds without as much as a flinch. The integration of close combat also is much smoother this time round which is a big plus as it always felt really disjointed in the previous games.

You realize the game is still a year away right?

Looks amazing. Finally the combat in a UC game looks enjoyable and cinematic and matches the rest of the game's caliber. I always used to hate getting to a combat scenario in the previous UC games.

Can't wait!

One of those screenshots is in focus and the other isn't

Guys, this is a pre alpha gameplay. It can only look BETTER than this in the final version.
That's not really a good general rule of thumb. Example: Ubisoft.

If the end product is exactly like this I'll be more than happy. My only concerns are AI related really, and am hoping the released game lives up to the gameplay promise shown here, but those visuals and animations look amazing to me.

ND always steps up the visuals closer to release date. What is shown now will look better come game time. It's what they do.

I think it looks great regardless of 30 FPS (which I totally expected despite them saying they were trying for 60 FPS - I never once believed that was going to happen).

Sorry to be that guy but it has been mentioned by quite a few other guys if you read the thread. No like for like comparison makes this a bit suspect. Definitely more DoF and under ideal lighting in that scene.

The combat seems a lot of using the terrain and moving to get an advantage. I can definitely see this being a big thing on higher difficulties if the AI is good.

It's even small things, like when Drake pushes a guy off a cliff, he falls into a tree that reacts to the guy falling into it. It's so minor, but it just... attention to detail.

The mud on the clothes impressed the hell outta me.

qsvmcw.gif
I think it'll be things like that which will be most impressive, not the clothes pick up mud as such but because there is that sort level of detail in interaction on everything. You only have to look at things like the interaction with vegetation, water, light, dust to see part of what what you just don't get in all games.

For a piece of gameplay that completely avoided any of the large scale type set pieces that you typically see in trailers for this series I thought it was particularly impressive. Just wait until we play this area later on when during a heavy storm a volcano erupts, the vegetation we've seen is burning and there's an avalanche on Drake's heals as he's making his way quickly down the side of the mountain wearing two South African pirates as skis and he's lassoing from tree to tree with wildlife scattering everywhere*.

That's when it's going to start to REALLY get impressive.

*Warning, this stuff may only happen in my own brain and not in the actual game.

It amazes me people scream downgrade because a moonlit wet character looks better than a sunlit dry character.

I never expected 60fps despite what ND said so I'm not too burned on that.

Yeah man to me it looked like a Uncharted 2 turbo, I was expecting wayyyyy more from ND

if this

uc4c.gif

looks like UC2 Turbo to you or anyone else then you really ought to go back and play Uncharted 2 or check out some gameplay screengrabs so you remember what the game actually looks like

"It looked good but not mindblowing" has to be one of the most used and most useless pieces of criticism one can say, but when it's UC4 that gets the heap of this kind of nonsense, it's funny as hell.

This thread man...

hpkrvu.gif

I don't know how this doesn't look "THAT great" for a real time gameplay model of Drake.
