I'm very glad they didn't personally. I don't care for this design at all.

Abel is my fav SFIV character too.

I hope the roster features cooler characters unlike sf4. A lot of chars in sf4, I just look at them and just think, BORING.

Bring back my nigga twelve and deff more new characters instead of bringing so many back. Save that for Super SF5.

And five new characters.

These would be my top choices from every series. I'm not really taking favorites into account(Guile, Vega are my favorites). But I rather have a fresh take on their styles like Charlie taking over for Guile and Geki for Vega. Just something new. I don't want another ten shoto's.

It will likely be a subset of the SFIV roster, and maybe 2 new or non-SFIV characters at the most. This isn't an all out SF, Capcom isn't doing that, they aren't investing in SF. They're going to do what they can, and it's not going to be a lot.
 
New trailer convinced me this is basically post-SF3. The gameplay's not similar at all, but they have SF3 moves and Ryu sounds kinda old.

So that being said, characters from SF4 I think will get the axe (at least at first):

I guess I'm a little slow... but the stage they showed looks like Yun/Yangs from SF3. The start is like a mix of NG and 3S (neon lights, bus) and the stage transition looks like the restaurant from NG. Based on that its probably safe to say Yun/Yang are in.

I would say they're in just because they are twins and an easy way to get two characters. That's probably why they were put in AE..
 
So, are we going to finally find out what Balrog did with that little kid ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)?
He'll probably turn out to be a new character trained under Rog.
 
Q has some of the most brutal attack animations in fighting game history. I want to see these moves return.

Juri and Abel are the only ones I really want back. It would be cool if they didn't add all the original world warriors (in the first iteration, at least) to focus on new characters.

Just the original 12 characters

Then add:

Cammy, fei long, & akuma from ST

ibuki, poison & Alex from 3s

Karin, Sakura & rose from alpha

I think the only game which had all of the World Warriors in its first iteration was SF4.

Yeah, but I don't mean in just the first iteration. Just saying, there's heaps of characters that have only been in one or two games that I think would be more interesting to see straight up, with new characters of course.

A boxing character with psycho power could be cool.

Boxing with teleports and fireballs.

I'd agree that C. Viper was a kind of dumb attempt at a SNK character, but I think Ibuki was pretty well designed
in SF3

edit: But I'm pretty sure there will be more of a pull to add more female characters this time, so I bet of the new characters introduced at least half of them will be females..

No Ken or Akuma since we got Ryu already. They are the same character.

No SF3 new characters as those are the worst cast of characters ever.
 
I really want Poison in here. She's replaced Ken as my favorite in Ultra.

I also would like Haggar to show up.

And if possible, it'd be nice if this was the one Street Fighter game where the women either equaled or actually outnumbered the men. It's possible, but just barely - and would take some wrangling.

Ken you can make an argument for but Akuma?

I forgot to say I'd also love some Saturday Night Slam Masters characters to make the cut, especially Biff and Gunloc. It's in the same canon universe as SF, so please make it happen Ono.
 
I really hope they bring back more of the Alpha series and 3 series cast, and are not afraid of having to have everyone from the 2 series.
That being said deciding on who to cut from 2 would be really, really hard. There's no winning moves there.

T.hawk is my main, so I have to hope he's in, dude is so fun to play.

Other than him, the only ones I would really like to see again are C.viper, Rose and Poison, really enjoy those characters even If I'm not really that good with them.

I also hope that a lot of the roster will be brand new characters and ones that weren't in SF4

Oh, and very important - please for the love of god, no blanka and guilde, ugh....
