Spectacle can still be a part of MMA because the sport is still young. People are comparing it to well established sports that have 100 years or more. You have some great guys competing in it, but what works and what doesn't in MMA is still be worked out by fighters and you haven't even had a generation of kids come up with MMA as a goal.

Good on him. I will be watching his first fight, that's for sure.

I can imagine it's going to be really, really tough for him and he's likely to get beaten up, but he's aware of that and I'll respect him for getting into that ring and giving it a shot.

Pst. Eejits. You can't seriously think that he's going to lose? I mean, the guy knows how to properly fight, but even more importantly, UFC will be backing him up almost every single step of the way. Seriously, expect a few metric tonnes of crow to be eaten.

If anything, UFC has more consistent rules than wrestling (because it's actually real).

FWIW, I don't watch wrestling either (I'm Australian). I have had to google CM Punk and HHH to try and understand what the hell is even going on (and I still don't really get it but HHH's in-ring speech was pretty fiery).

Yup. There's not a weekend I'm not deleting something UFC from the Sky Box without even watching it now. A few years ago I'd watch everything I could as there was always a huge wait until the next event, but now... nah.

I think they're teasing that certain people are 'booked' to be strong by fighting people that they can dominate.

I dont see this going well.....im guessing he will get a PPV first fight then get relegated to Fight Night or on Fox.......then once the contract is up....he'll be done.

They'll feed Punk a steady diet of cans, he'll eventually get in with a real fighter and lose, then become a commentator.

I actually think he's doing this because he has lots of money to spare.

If money was running out I don't think he'd leave a company where he was one of the top guys and brought home a good wage every year. Think in his podcast he said he was a multi millionaire.

And then years later Punk will break Wyatt's epic losing streak at Wrestlemania to a stunned crowd wondering why the Hell the announcers are freaking out.

I think i heard him say he came up doing kenpo karate, but who knows how long ago that was. And to me years of wrestling I wonder what his body feels like thats a rough job and he wasn't always working with careful wrestlers.

As an older guy myself, I have nothing but respect. I wouldn't write him off either. My life experience has taught me to never underestimate people.
