CM Punk signs with UFC

Really don't see how this contradicts his podcast, he said he wasn't interested in wrestling, gave props to Batista for doing the same thing and a clear theme was him wanting to be paid his actual worth, something UFC can actually provide. We honestly should have seen the signs of where he was heading.

Edit: Listening to a few weeks old Figure Four Daily this second and they mentioned Punk was aiming to hit 220lbs, so I'm guessing he's bulking up for light heavyweight (before cutting down to 205).

Maybe this is what Vince was referring to when he told Punk someone was going to die in a UFC fight. Heed the warning of the McMahon prophecy Phil!

"Punk (real name Phillip Brooks) said his weight class is not quite finalized, though he will "most likely" compete at middleweight. A test weight cut in the near future will help him decide for sure, though, and Punk said "welterweight might be there." Light heavyweight, he said, is not an option."

Great. Can't wait for all these ultra informed wrestling fans to start shitting up UFC threads again.

Been a coupla months since i last checked, but compared to boxing (which is currently undergoing a popularity slump), UFC pays shit. As in, heavyweight champ vs heavyweight champ, in a single fight Vladimir Klitschko made more than ten times what the top salary in UFC made in a year.

Dana has those guys by the balls. He simply isn't as big a cunt as McMahon.

Brock was at least a successful collegiate wrestler which translates very well to MMA. CM Punk has no history like that at all. He is going to get destroyed.

Always been a huge Punk fan, but dude probably hits softer than Jake Shields at a foam party--only without the grappling expertise to compensate.

If he turns out to be the biggest, most talented guy in UFC, then yeah, he's not going to be paid his worth. He won't be though, best case scenario he'll be Chael, who can talk his way into hyped matches, bigger buyrates and then a larger slice of the pie.

Easy pay day for Punk. Even if he goes down in the first round, he will get a cut of buys and probably make an easy million. That's just on one fight and he has a multi fight deal. If he wins by some small chance, his second fight will draw even more, because UFC fans will want to see him lose.

Probably hoping he can come in and be a Stephan Bonnar type who isn't very good but is entertaining and usually finishes fights with blood all over his face

except he won't have any kind of chin whatsoever

its gonna be bad

Cm punk is a worse athlete than most of the short order cooks and mechanics working the ultimate undercards. I can't see how this works unless he gets booked like Herschel walker.

and if he wins them all he can go back to wwe as a wrestlemania part timer with vince kissing his arse and hunter stewing in his own juices

I kinda want to see him win just for the hhh salt

I think he knows the majority of people think he is just going to get the shit kicked out of him and will do his best to try and prove that wrong.

I think he will have a decent showing and might even win his first fight if they put him against someone green enough. I don't see him having much success beyond that though.

Still, he is going for it and I give him props for that.

isn't it a bit hypocritical for him to do this too? He gets a spot in the UFC because of his name while there's certainly more talented and skilled mma guys out there. Wasn't he bitching about guys walking into the WWE like this?

Machida-GAF reborn. Infinite knowledge and insight to the intricacies of his particular background, Pro Wrestling and Kenpo.

Welcome to the fold, Punk-GAF.

Even after he fails in the Octagon he could still make them money as a coach on Ultimate Fighter. They still have that show right? I haven't heard anything about UFC in forever.

I was actually hoping he wouldn't go down the MMA path and after a bunch of time off would end up wrestling somewhere like NJPW or something like that, but whatever, best of luck to him. I'll actually have to watch UFC now.

Lets press the rewind button, can you believe that bleached blonde frail doofus in a cheap ass gym doing micless promos, He will be in a
Octagon with actual professionals With Men who actually do this to feed their children? seeing this guy trying to get "back at wwe"
by eating off their lives work should make them beat his ass yesterday.

In case you Phil marks have forgotten, this fool bragged about being super rich in the podcast interview, so clearly he is doing this NOT
because he has to is because he can, some UFC fighters live for this to feed their families.

This aint a god damn bucket list moment like this Frail guy is doing.

So much truth in this post I had to post it here for those MMA Millenials to have a dose of the truth.

To be fair, I'll take a spectacle fighter like CM Punk over these 8k/8k ham 'n' eggers that can beat his ass any day of the week.

It's really a shame The Brass Body Dave Bautista didn't sign with UFC for some spectacle fights.

Punk is going to help those other fighters feed their families by actually bringing buys to whatever PPV he fights on. They should be ecstatic.

That's not how it works. A very small percentage of fighters have any claim on pay-per-view revenue, and the entire roster is now tied to a tiered sponsorship deal with Reebok. They aren't eating off this unless they beat CM Punk.

I'm aware of how the contract situation works in UFC...I didn't mean they would directly get a cut of the increased buys but if business is up, then it's silly to argue that none of the other fighters will benefit from that in the long run.

Remember when people said ufc was going to bigger than Boxing. That was funny.

For me my interest in mma seemed to decline when Pride died. Initially I kept following the sport via ufc but for whatever reason over the last couple years I watched less and less and now nothing.

Hope punk goes well but he is the wrong side of 30 and his body has taken beating for a decade.

Nobihuko Takada of UWFI fame was by many accounts a beast in the gym and could grapple with anyone but by the time he started in Pride he was old and again beaten up from pro-wrestling.
