In case you doubted: PSX will be an annual event from now on

Well, Nintendo already has Directs, and I'm assuming going forward they'll be treating The Game Awards as a big deal as well.
 
Yes! Can't wait for E3 and PSX with some Nintendo Directs sprinkled throughout the year. Microsoft needs their own event now.

Yes, please! I'm not sure where they could hold it besides the Orange County Convention Center. I'd love to go to one of these events but they're always up North or on the West Coast.
 
Isn't this them going the opposite route to Nintendo? One is cost cutting and not doing big press conferences.. The other is doing there own event.

Time for MS to bring back the X0 event. Why did they stop doing them anyway?

On topic, this is very good news if it means more focus on smaller titles that might not get as much press at events like E3, GC, TGS.
 
They confirmed it near the start of the conference didn't they. Hopefully it'll motivate Microsoft and Nintendo to reply and we can have two E3s a year :).

But yeah, this is good news. Helps increase the trend of companies not having to completely rely on E3. I definitely think that MS will have to have an event outside of E3 too.

I really enjoyed the inaugural PSX for what it was. It may not have featured a host of megatons, but it was a great platform for Sony to talk about its upcoming software lineup and build some excitement. Seconded suggestions that they move it around every year, though airfare to Vegas tends to be pretty reasonable for the most part.

Disagreed. Only a tiny sliver of a fraction of the world's population would have the ability to attend such an event, and for the rest of the world it's just like watching an E3 press conference. I actually prefer the way Nintendo are doing things with their Directs right now. There just needs to be more of them. Instead of burning a ton of money on logistics and accommodation for a single event, why not make more frequent and elaborate Directs, an even more elaborate E3 next year, and spend the remainder of the money on greater presence at already existing trade shows? Oh, and why not bring the Treehouse crew along and stream stuff? Yes, anyone can stream, but no one is really doing at the Treehouse @ E3 level yet. So it's worth doing.

Nintendo already did some really cool stuff together with Mega64 and the Robot Chicken guys for last year's E3. I guess I'd like them to continue on that path, and not fall back on the old conference format (which honestly feels a little dated at this point).
 
I remember reading something someone wrote yesterday saying "with these lack of megatons Sony is hoping this is the first and last PSX event"

I remember just shaking my head. The conference is like 5% of what PSX actually is. It's a chance for people that couldn't get into E3 to try game demos. To get opportunities to buy limited stuff like the 20th anniversary PS4.

It will live on until people stop attending the show. Not because of some guy sitting at home watching the stream thinking "meh no megatons".
 
PSX was almost literally a 2nd, PS-focused E3. The fact that Nintendo is actively eschewing that style, in addition to hosting its own unique events in the form of Directs and Treehouse, leads me to believe that they won't be adopting this format any time soon. Would love it if they resurrected Space World, but that was extremely costly, and maybe rather irrelevant for the games industry in Japan today.

MS could do this sort of thing with their eyes shut if they wanted to, I'm sure. And they probably will if PSX proves to have any kind of positive effect (and I'm not sure it did, honestly).

Do people really not knoe the keynote was only part of psx or are they just hating?
 
I have a feeling this is just an excuse to do lots of coke and have it be SCE's annual Christmas party for its employees but I'll take it. I'll be going next year for sure its a 5 hour drive or a short flight and if they release limited edition items every year that would be great.

Well there is GDC and a couple Pax's in the 1st Half next year.
 
I could see all of the companies follow Nintendo lead and put out information at their rate and mechanism.

The problem would be third party folks having to prep to so many different events. Add PAX, comic cons, etc. that is too much work and strain on their budgets and resources. So yeah Sony may want this but in the long haul something is going to give. Right now the 3rd party and indies are almost in constant demo mode, not a healthy place to be.
 
If you think about it, last years PlayStation 4 reveal in February was like a trial run for PSX. They got an incredible amount of buzz that carried them to E3. PSX will have the same effect.

It's a very smart strategy and keeps the pedal to the metal.
 
Phenomenal move! E3 once a year just isn't enough for the industry or for the fans. This is like Sony's E3 press conference Round 2.

Just judging from the general tone of things, the people who went really enjoyed Las Vegas. The perfect city to have a major event that is also considered a party for PlayStation.

It seems like it will really take pressure off of developers as well. What they used to have to crunch for in May to have ready for E3 can now be announced at E3 and first footage to be shown at PSX (and vice versa).
 
That's good news. Who doesn't enjoy going to Vegas anyway? Just too bad they had to do it during NFR weekend :( I would have loved to check it out.

It could also cause more pressure. Gotta have stuff ready to show twice a year now instead of once.

. . . Though in all likelihood they'd just rename it. Why is it named Space World? Are they going to cover astronomy or have a space flight simulator? I guess that would make it a great opportunity to reveal the next Star Fox though.

EDIT: Oh, I see they held a few Nintendo World events afterall, so I guess that rename DID happen, and would probably be what they use if they went for an annual event. Figures.

Used to be you had to be ready for E3 and maybe TGS. Now you gotta be ready year round. E3, Gamescom, TGS, GDC, DICE, Game Awards, PSX, PAX.

It never ends. With the big publishers having their own events it makes it less likely to see stuff at other conferences because they wanna save it for themselves.
 
Good Christmas party. Makes the Playstation community even stronger with a yearly get together that directly leads to a relaxing holiday. Who you know networking and deals being done possibly. Still business but PSX seems comforting and open which devs would probably enjoy.
 
I don't think Nintendo needs an event like this since they more consistently do Nintendo Directs as the need arises as opposed to saving everything for a big event (bar E3).

It'd be awesome for Microsoft to go in either direction.
