Say goodbye to your little amiibo friends........

He's a very senior member of NoA PR.

No, they didn't. Wired has a generic article piece of PR about the fact that amiibos of the lesser known faces will be discontinued eventually, and maybe not get a second shipment after the first. That doesn't say they will never get another shipment. And the recent NoA response is that more shipments are on their way.

The whole "single shipment" idea is total bullocks as multiple retailers have already received more than a single shipment. They obviously didn't expect the demand, and the can't produce them and the new wave so fast concurrently so subsequent shipments are slow and sparse.

If retailers can't order them what does that tell you?

Nintendo's shipping to other territories first though
No they can't. The original tweet that started this whole thing was because a retailer couldn't order them. There were also confirmations that they didn't show up in other retail POS' for order. If you can't order them then they're discontinued. That's how it works when you're purchasing with a distributor.

"Doesn't make sense?" What? This makes perfect sense. The demand for a Villager amiibo is going to be absolutely zero in the next couple of months. Do you think they are planning on a big villager amiibo integrated game soon or something? No.

This first batch is literally made entirely for Smash Bros. They are keeping on the "big ones" because they're usable in other games. Who (apart from diehards) will want to go out to the store to buy a Wii Fit Trainer amiibo come February?

It's not worth it for them to keep manufacturing ones that are going to have a limited window of demand (the next couple months). That being said, sure they could have made a few more in the initial batch.

Pretty much.

I'm surprised people aren't waiting for the cheaper option. The figure thirst is real, apparently.

I can handle limited supply.
I can even handle early discontinuation.

But I can't believe Nintendo is literally coming into people's homes and disintegrating their amiibos right in front of them. I can't stand for this. I paid money for these collectibles and Nintendo does not have the right to invade my personal space and destroy my property.

This is really fucked up. I never knew Nintendo was capable of such shady tactics.

I think the biggest issue is the fact that Nintendo intend to put 20+ different figures out in a three month period. That's just too many for the tiny amount of realestate that have at retail. So they are trying to keep it at around 15 figures at most at any particular time. A better time frame for waves would have been a new wave every 3 months.

I wonder if Nintendo will ever sell digital "Amiibos" for Smash Bros. Like, if someone wants to take advantage of the Amiibo features in Smash Bros., but can't get a figure for a character they want to use, they could just buy the character digitally and tie it to another Amiibo or something.

This whole Amiibo thing is a nightmare. I'm thinking of canceling my Mega Man Amiibo and just forgetting about the whole thing all together. I wanted to pick each one up as I had the money to get them but knowing I'll have gaps in the collection just puts me off.

I got the last wave of Villager from Bestbuy.com
Now Marth and Villager are "only select stores"
Dam I should of picked up Marth. Meh Im not a big fan of him anyways

NEXT WAVE!

Megaman is probably going to be rare, so if you really want that particular figure I would suggest keeping the pre-order.

I have Link, but haven't even opened it yet due to being busy.

I want to have:

Fox
Link
Little Mac
Mega Man
Pac Man
Sonic

I'll get these if they make them:
Saki (Sin and Punishment)
Duck Hunt Dog
Rob

I love a lot of these characters but no way am I buying them all.

It's pretty freaking amazing how Xenoblade went from almost not localized to its main character getting an action figure. I'd like figures of all the characters but I'll settle for Shulk's limited run. :P

Were that many people even ordering Amiibos? They seem in plentiful enough supply and it's limited to one game so far. I haven't seen much talk about it outside online gaming forums and for a toy aimed at 5+ that's not very good.

As much as I love Nintendo, I really do have to question their actions sometimes. What's to stop Amiibo from ultimately failing if the majority of the toyline was going to be limited in the first place?

oh Nintendo. Such an odd and silly company

Clearly this is what a skylanders or disney company would do. :/
To be fair the latest Skylanders has been a scalpers paradise with the Kaos trap. Activision sent out very few in november (i think i read it was one per shipment box or something) and theyre sold out pretty much every where. The six dollar figurine goes for 90+ dollars online.

No word from activision if theres going to be a wider release, just some pr people giving out tips for "the hunt".

Two games use them now.

Also two more games that are already out are getting patched to use them.

The thirst is real, I saw plenty of Fox at bestbuy in my area, I look now and stores are drying up, they must not be resupplying him. I'm wondering if samus will face the same fate.

I'm not even giving myself a chance to miss any that I want. I have made sure to pre-order any future wave amiibos I know I'm gonna want. I have now managed to track down the villager/Marth/WFT group. I would try Targets to find rare ones, the Targets near OKC had everything but Villager.

Not odd or silly.

By creating a market lacking in product early on, it sets a precedent for the future releases.

Now demand for every Amiibo is increased, knowing they may randomly never come back.

This is the same strategy that Ty used with Beanie Babies.

Everything they did seemed chaotic and crazy, but in reality was designed to create a frenzy of sales.
He avoided giant retailers and toy store chains in favor of small gift shops and specialty toy stores, and he limited sales to these stores, too. No store was able to buy all the Beanie Baby characters that were available, and those they did get were limited to 36 of each character per month. Collectors came to perceive them as scarce- they had to buy them quickly before they were gone.
Instead of manufacturing as many as he could sell, Warner regularly “retired” Beanie Baby characters by posting a notice on the company website: Some were retired only after a long run; others were retired quickly. There was no logic to it, so when a new character appeared in stores people had to act fast if they wanted one.
* Warner made small changes in each character. If the first production run of Shasta the Bear had an orange ribbon around its neck, Warner would then change the ribbon to yellow, and then green on the next runs. Or he might change the color of the bear from white to red, and then to blue. Hardcore collectors felt compelled to buy several versions of each character.
But Warner’s most brilliant stroke of all: a near-total information blackout on his company, so that nobody had a complete picture of what was going on. How many Seaweed the Otters was the company going to produce? In how many versions? Which stores would get them? How soon would they be retired? He wouldn’t divulge his plans, which further fueled the frenzy to buy.

Any of this shit sound familiar?

I haven't bought any yet and may not for some time.

Dammit.

Hopefully it's just more of the sale manipulation bullshit than an actual end of production.

Why I can't get Marth, Villager and WFT those are rare as well now. If I can't have em all then I'll take none.

I love it. If Nintendo really wants to fuck with people, they should "run out" of some of the high-mid tier characters like Samus.

But Nintendo isn't avoiding well known retailers and treating their products like a specialty for collectors.

We know that the popular Nintendo characters like Mario are going to be well supplied so people will not feel rushed to get him. This just creates a craze around the lesser known Nintendo characters like WFT and Marth as opposed to all of the Amiibos so scalpers will know who to go for.

The sales method for Beanie Babies just doesn't apply for these Amiibos when the parents whom Nintendo is advertising to can't even get the figures their children may want for Smash due to limited availability.

It's not that Fox isn't being resupplied it's that there's a lower number of him per case. When Amiibos go to stores they go in cases with predetermined assortments of figures. For example Wave 1 may have 12 figures with 24 figures packed to a case(made up these numbers just for the example), with 4 figures being packed 1 to a case and the rest is split evenly between the rest of the figures with 1 or 2 packed in more than all the others. Obviously in this case the figures like Mario that are packed in more will be more available and your Villagers and what have you that only get one per case in will run out faster. Most toys/collectibles work like this because big stores hate having to figure out which individual characters they need to order in the right amounts to avoid overstocking on what turns out to be low selling figures..

Feels good preordering all that I can. Just need Rosalina and Lucario now.

Feel like I should preorder a second Shulk in case someone on GAF can't get one and it gets really rare very quickly.

Amiibos are not created equal.

Somewhere in the world, there is one BEST Marth, and one worst Marf.
.. And I'd love to see them in a lineup.

Still calling bullshit on this. We don't even have a concrete, confirmed release date for wave 2 yet, so why would they already be clearing space?

And of the Wave 2 ones, there are maybe 2-3 with staying power anyway. Pit, Little Mac, and Captain Falcon are all probably going to be a little harder to come by than Luigi, Zelda, and Diddy Kong. And then it's February for Wave 3, which is full of retailer exclusives, 3rd party characters, and a few more niche characters.

The more I think about it the more I feel like these three are maybe discontinued.

I feel like Captain Falcon shouldn't be that hard to find since he's usable in Mario Kart 8 as well. Well, ideally.

Who's rare? Marth from what in reading?

Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager from the first wave.

Hi guys I'm buying a Wii U when my daughter turns 2 in March next year.

I'm in a gaming store here in China and they have loads of Japanese Amiibo. Are they region free? I'll be getting a U.S. Wii U.

And should I buy multiple Marth, Villager and Wii fit trainers?
