Say goodbye to your little amiibo friends........

Like someone said Marth and Village would have sold horribly if not limited. I bought them all but if I were picking and choosing they would not have been my preference and I doubt others

I feel like this definitely would have been the case, too many Marth figures, not enough people to buy them.

I love how nobody gave two shits about WFT, Villager, or Marth before this shortage. Heck, wasn't Marth the poster boy for everyone and their mother bitching and complaining about how shitty Amiibos are since someone posted a picture of his sword bent? Now that the word is out that they're at least limited and at most discontinued, they're all anybody wants... even to the point of people saying that they are never buying Nintendo products again because they can't get their Marth figure. Not saying it's the same people in both cases, but it's funny to see the drastic reversal in the conversation.

Its definetly laughable, but not surprising..
this is neogaf

Seems like, despite the complaints about the quality of the figure, Marth was otherwise selling through his limited print before the rumors that it was already discontinued hit.

That said, I think the fact that Nintendo very specifically said "likely" and not just "will", as well as not naming specific ones, hints that they are clearly considering reprinting stuff like Marth but are otherwise waiting to see how they all sell and what they can do with space demands (since stuff like Marth is still going to be lower priority as long as Smash is the only game that uses them)

WFT is fucked, though.

It would be ok if there was enough around to begin with. I've only ever seen the main ones like pikachu and mario. It's annoying to hear they may be discontinued already when you couldn't even buy some of them that reliably in the first place.

I had the intention of picking up Villager around christmas after the november rush of games

I agree... I've only seen 2 Kirby and 1 Villager, and that was at the official launch date, in something like 7 shops. Some are scarse... And I guess it'll be worse for waves 2 / 3 :(

The amiibo is dead
long live the amiibo

Edit: Marth was my main in melee/brawl, WFT was my main in 3DS, so I always wanted both. Villager I like okay and may be a future main, but I thought that based on the 3DS demo.

Pretty much.

This. Not everyone flies out and buys everything the second it's out. I got a chu cause I love pikachu and figured I'd get some more like villager once I've spent some time already and know I'm into the amiibo thing. It's only been a couple weeks since launch. We aren't all collectors who buy fleets of shit the instant it's out. If I knew that villager would go the way of the dodo I would have bought him immediately. Even then, like I said above, I haven't seen a single villager since the game came out so I haven't had much of a chance in the first place.

Lucario is gone:

Lucario is gone:

Wasn't someone here on GAF telling us about how Toys R Us limits its amount of pre-orders significantly in order to have some available on the shelf on release date?

I'm not TOO worried about Lucario.....yet.....I just need Rosalina to go up!!!

Are we 100% sure it's Target? I've never seen an official confirmation.

Me too, I thought Animal Crossing was a big enough of a franchise that they'd keep stocking Villager. Animal Crossing is my second favorite game series (Pokemon first) and it sucks I won't be able to get one after the first week of them being sold.

This sucks. I was waiting to get villager. The target I go to never stocked villager in the first place. It was the only amiibo they didn't have. Glad I have Marth though.

They'll prolly rotate through all of their characters, and then rotate again with different poses.

I would be okay with this approach, but it doesn't look like they'd do it for all of their figurines. We may see a more generic version of Mario released sometime in 2015, instead of just the Smash Bros-themed Mario that's only compatible with that Smash Bros game for saving data on to, whereas in other games that support it, like Mario Kart 8, no data is saved to it... if I'm understanding this correctly.

The distributor for my store is only able to get us Diddy Kong, Little Mac, and Zelda as far as the Wave 2 figures are concerned. I guess that's all Nintendo shipped to them. :O

Nintendo's creating some crazy demand, I'll give them that.

do you work for a major retailer? it may give us some insight which ones of the wave 2 will be in short supply

regardless nintendo is making some major bank, they should really announce the official release date of the wave 2 figures by now...

It's as if one head of the Nintendo hydra conceptualized Amiibos as limited merchandise for a tiny pool of collectors and another head thought of them as mainstream accessories for games.

I actually have no issue with pure merch being super limited, small print run toys are common. It is however more troubling to see a major game launched where the supporting accessories are mostly considered extremely limited collectibles.

Entertainment Earth just canceled my Villager order. I bet Marth will be canceled now too.

Thank you for ordering from Entertainment Earth. We have been notified by
the manufacturer that we will not be receiving any additional shipments of
Nintendo Amiibo Animal Crossing Villager Wii U Mini-Figure, (Item
NDWUNVLAAAJ), because they have discontinued production of this item at
this point in time. The item has been removed from your order.

If this item is again made available, we will contact you for a possible
re-order. We apologize for the inconvenience, as we certainly would have
preferred to fill your order. Your order information appears below.

damn that sucks, i'd jump and import them as a last resort if you really want em

Sadly the collector in me needs them to be the US version to match. I'm considering getting extras of other likely hard to get characters to offset the premium of Villager and Marth at this point =(

They just cancelled my Marth :/ what's a good website for importing I'm starting to get desperate. He's the only Amiibo I wanted but didn't pre order because I didn't think there'd be a demand for him ugh now I'm paying the price.

I own my own game store, and we just go through the distributor that Nintendo pointed us to. That said, I was told Friday is the official release date for the Wave 2 figures, but I've already seen Zelda and Little Mac at a Fred Meyer here in South Eastern Washington.

How far in advance can you preorder these? The only one I want is King Dedede but Amazon just has him listed as "Currently unavailable".

What exactly do you use these for anyway. I get that with Disney Infinity and Skylanders you use them to enter characters into games to play as etc. But with this, I just get the impression that you put them into Smash and MK8.

It makes the most sense to do it this way since Nintendo themselves stated that they have no intention of making all Amiibos work for all games, or even across games.

This makes it so that they don't have to keep updating games in the pipeline to account for all possible figurines.

It is a bit scummy and certainly not the most appealing way that you could entice those of us more in the know to buy them - Brandon Jones over on GameTrailers makes a good point of how Amiibos feel of lesser value compared to Skylanders, where your figurine travels from game to game and you are quite aware that the product line should stay viable within the series that it was designed for, compared to Nintendo's Amiibos where it isn't too clear how well things will transfer if at all - but that's business, I guess.

Yea. I'm thinking that we will see a new range of figures for Mario Part 10.

Seems weird that they would stop selling them right before the holidays. The GCN thing discontinuing is true too then?

Funny that Sakuai used Marth as his example amiibo then.

Nintendo need to release a press statement explaining what exactly is going on. This is a mess.

I know you didn't imply that, but at least this time it's not a mess because of Nintendo, but because of retailers who publish false information without informing themselves beforehand.

I impulse-bought WFT and Marth (already bought Villager) because of this mess. Not that I regret it as I plan to buy all the amiibos anyway, but still, it's 30€ I could've spent either at a later date or for something entirely different.

So there is lots of confusion about this. I'm gonna buy an Amiibo later today and I would like to know what's going on exactly:

1. From what I understand, Marth and Villager are the most hard to find? If so, I'll buy Marth tonight, a local shop still has it. (Villager is sold out).

2. Besides those two, what other Amiibos are rare? Are Mario and Link rare, for example?

Thanks.

1. The most hard to find, yes. Maybe even the rarest. But I don't think they're supposed to be limited quantity. It's just that Nintendo apparently misjudged demand for amiibos, so that ones like Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager got sold out quicker than the others because they didn't produce as much as, say, Peach or Link.

2. Mario and Link are probably not rare. They are Nintendo's most beloved mascots, so they're sure to sell and thus Nintendo has to produce them in mass quantities compared to the other ones.
I can't say which ones could be considered rare, though.
