Is there no way to transfer your unlocked roster from the 3DS to Wii U?

*groan*

Gonna be honest, Smash U is the least enthusiastic I've been about investing in any Smash game to date. I've burnt myself out with the 3DS version, which handled some ideas better than the Wii U. The cross platform content/release idea has been poorly realised in my opinion, especially considering you cannot transfer the roster. Most of the new stages in both the 3DS and U version are unfavourable to me, ruining interesting layouts on an insistence to shift the stage into new forms and/or introduce hostile NPCs.

So I had some problems with Smash playing online, most games would lag a lot and the input lag pretty much made it unplayable. I got a Wii LAN adapter today and played a match against two folks from the US and another one from Canada. Apart from the small delay you get from the ping it was very playable. I'll try again later with some guys from Europe, but for now, it might have fixed my problem. If anyone else has the same problem, I'd advise you to give the LAN adapter a shot.

guys, i'm scared

Yeah, having to unlock all the characters again
well, a third time. I did it for the JP 3DS and NA 3DS release as well...
was a grind.

And yup, lots of crappy stages. More than ever before. Hoping DLC can fix that, honestly.

Unfortunately no. But I used a custom Sonic from my 3DS version...doesn't have to be Sonic, just has to have equipment with "Improved Trade-Off Attack".

Then I put it on Special Smash with these settings:

Stamina Mode (set you and a CPU, set one of them to 10HP with the custom character from above, the improved trade-off attack will damage them enough that they will only have 1HP)
Fast Speed
Flower

Disable Pause + Stage Select: Random

This way you can just mash Start and have it go through VS matches constantly. Won't take very long.

GG Donkey Kong is a beast.

First time I've played a good DK since the game came out.

Good games! I sure do love me some fatties in this game, but damn it D3 can be a bitch to fight some times. Seems pretty hard for DK to grab or punish stuff, and I gotta find out what to do about that Up-B too.

The lack of new earthbound and F-zero stage is extremely disappointing and some new stages are not totally fantastic (Kid Icarus stage is way too big).

But the new stages are good enough IMO (since I personally like stage hazards like Ridley) but the old stages selection is pretty bad, mario circuit when you have already one is stupid, I despise Pokémon stadium, 75 M is the worst, smashville is stupid and there are better metroid stage than norfair same goes for eldin bridge.

Despite that there are enough stages to not be bored quickly.

Edit : I think they should port 3DS Stages on the Wii U version even if some of them looks ugly. There are at least 10 stages I want to replay so badly.

Completely re-made the rear character panel from scratch. Very happy with it now :) What do you guys think?

Why the non Smash renders for some characters?

Also I really like the stages for both the 3DS and Wii U versions. Only one I've disabled so far is Gaur Plains in the 3DS version.

My Up B? It's pretty easy to punish if you're shielding. Also, Gordos got nerfed in the last patch, so most of DKs swipes should be able to send them back.

I also really need to work on my grabs.

Was just playing online against a Link (I was G&W) who did nothing except shoot arrows and when I went near him he'd roll all the way to the other end of the stage, shoot arrows, and repeat. I managed to catch him once when he went to KO me with a 9 Hammer but apart from that I had absolutely no idea what to do. Considering he was in Japan and I'm in Australia trying to time an attack for the fraction of a second between rolls was seemingly impossible so was there anything I could have done to counteract his annoying bullshit?

I enjoy Smash Tour a whole lot more than 3DS's Smash Run. I don't get the hate for it at all.

In other news, I'm up to 72/140 challenges cleared. There's no way I'll ever clear them all (Classic on 9.0 with no lives lost? Yikes), but the hardest one I've done so far was 8 KOs in Cruel Smash.
I'm with you on that. I have 71 I believe?

It's probably why Pac-Land is the GREATEST STAGE EVER. I make sure to always pick it online when I can, if only because I think it's beautiful and fun. Also it really is the most faithful recreation ever,
Faithful recreation =/= good Smash stage.

New arrivals, they are pretty wonderful :)

Me wants.

I already have 5 GCN controllers, which is 1 more than I need, but I want a white one!

Looks so nice but I'm always afraid of pure white turning into ivory/dirty white over time. >.>
Dude. Don't think about the future. Think about now.

It is tempting to use these hammers but I'm soooooo close !!!
Hey awesome job! Keep it up!

Your damn knuckles!!!
Hm?

I wish Knuckles was in this game...

I just got home with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, after having traded in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Grand Theft Auto V and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

This is also my first Smash Bros game and the first time I'll get to play it.

It's a little excited and I can't wait to find out, which character I'll go with. And see if I can even understand the basics of the gameplay. At least I have a lot of time from Thursday - Monday to practice and get into it.

I have an idea of which characters I'll try out first unless they're locked away: Villager, Mega Man and maybe Pikachu. I see Duck Hunt Dog is locked away.

But this feeling of it being the first time I'm playing Smash Bros...
Congrats! I always say to try Kirby first. He's got the best jumps, so it will be easy to get back on the stage after getting knocked off.

Random kill that I'm happy with during a For Glory fight against a Fox with ZSS.

I think the back it still too busy. The emblems need to be more subtle and Lucina's sword sticking out looks awkward. Also the font on the spine is BLUH.

I FUCKING DID IT.

I GOT A PERFECT IN EVERY TARGET BLAST STAGE.

Now to never touch that shit again.
Hahahaha congrats :)

It's annoying that the home menu is disabled during character select. I want to take a picture of 8 Miis ready to fight. :(

The retailer from which I pre-ordered the gamecube adapter from mid-october has confirmed they wont be getting any this year.

so sad

I just tried the Pro Controller for the first time with Smash and man it feel so funky. The second stick is too far away from the buttons, which are also too small. I feel like the face of the controller is huge but everything is tiny. I may just stick with the Classic Controller or go back to the GCN controller when I get an adapter.

Not sure if this has been replied to or not, but in both the 3DS and Wii U, there's an option in your friends list (when you select yourself, I believe) that asks if you want to allow others to see when you're online. If I recall correctly, that's what's causing your issue.

A friend and I had it happen on 3DS, and that was the fix. You may have mindlessly selected that option at some point. :)

Thanks, but I don't think it's related - they see me online, game just won't show the "now recruiting" yellow button to them :/

EDIT: Sorry DP.

I'm starting to seriously enjoy using Shulk and his different Monado Art changes. He's just so versatile and fun to play as, and the Monado itself has such a satisfying heft to it... not to mention that badass "vwrr" sound effect it makes when swung.

Mega Man is still and will always be my main along with Kirby, but Shulk is now getting equal secondary playtime with Palutena, Lucina, and Toon Link.

I happen to only have 1 friend on my Wii U, so I would be so happy and appreciate it a lot, if some of you Smash Bros. players would add me. :)

My Nintendo ID is: Dimaya

I would really love to play with you guys.

Are we doing a tournament by the way?

yeah. of course, I'm zruben, I'll send you a request.
I'm not top tier here on neogaf, but I can give you some trouble.

btw: anyone wants to play right now? I have half an hour to spare before going to work.

So yesterday I just went and tried for a few For Glory matches after having my ass beaten to the ground three times in a row at launch...

Ended up against someone...who just wasn't playing.

Took up 10 wins before he/she disconnected and I feel terrible/glad I did so.

D:...:D

At least my stats are good now.

I'm sorry but I have to get this off my chest... FUCK that awful "No More Sparring" event match with Lil Mac. I beat it on normal in one try. On hard it took me around two and a half hours. Worst event by far good lord.

I found the Metaknight vs. Marth, Peach, and Zelda to be far worse.

Also, Ganondorf vs. Link, Zelda, and Palutena.

At least, in terms of getting their special victory requirements. Viciously difficult. 45 seconds to kill 3 characters? Ack.

Quick question for the tech savvy crowd.

I keep getting an error code when I connect online for smash (I think 118-0516) saying I have to configure my router for the game. I had the same issue with the 3ds one. And trying to play friends in mario kart 8 (but I could do worldwide/gaf room tho)
Ive fiddled with some settings but not sure why I cant connect. All online wii u features work otherwise.
Anyone willing to help?

What router do you have? Try putting your Wii U in dmz if you have that option.

ooh a local electronics/vg store said he'd get GC adapters on thursday to me on the phone

can christmas still be saved?

Okay SmashGAF, I have a question, and hopefully thou art is able to help with this. Simple for the most part.

I'm doing a tournament for some kids and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. is what I'm using this year for the competition. I understand Smash is 8 players local multiplayer, but I've never tested this (my copy is going to arrive about a day or two before the planned event).

Does anyone know how the game performs when you have so many people playing at once?

Secondly, can eight Wii U Pro Controllers be connected to the console without any issue? I'm guessing this won't be an issue, but may as well ask just in case.

Pretty sure you need a gamecube controller adapter for eight player

But divide those little punks into groups of four and do a play-off

8 player smash is basically ridiculously hectic. it doesn't suffer from slowdown or some such as far as I know. I didn't know it would do 8 people on 1 console, wasn't even aware that was possible, thought controllers max.

I think the setup is:

1 Gamepad + 7 Wii U Pro Controllers / Wiimotes / Wiimotes + Nunchuks / Classic Controller Pro connected to Wiimotes

or

8 Gamecube controllers using the adapter
