Elite: Dangerous Standard Beta (Starting Jul 29th - $75)

Can you get out of your ship in the space stations at all? Or is it something that might be implemented? The stations look amazing. I really want to just wander around, and admire the exterior of my ship :D

That's planned for the first major expansion.

Also, i hear if your ship gets destroyed thats it. Its gone for good. So like, what happens if you only have one ship? And fuck all money? Do you just start panhandling in the stations??

When your ship is destroyed you can pay an insurance fee of 10% of the ships value and the value of your installed addons. If you are unable to pay then you restart in your home system with a basic sidewinder. You'll keep whatever cash you have.

I drop out at 10k kilometers from the unidentified source (that's .1 Mm), and I have no waypoint or target, I'm just in blank space. Nothing on the radar either.

If I go back into frameshift, the signal source is there again and locked. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do.

You access them the same way you access stations, you fly at them until the 'safe disengage' prompt comes up then you pop out of supercruise.

Thanks! I was kinda hoping id get to be a spaceship-less interstellar hobo tho lol

really cant wait to explore the stations tho, so glad its something theyre planning.

It all depends on what your nav target is. If the nav target is in-system, you'll supercruise. If it's another star, your hyperdrive will kick in.

Ah, that's what was doing it. OK, I need to learn the targets more. I was just exploring and couldn't find a spot to dock and refuel (need to figure out how to fuel scoop) and couldn't figure out why sometimes I would be in supercruise or FSD.

No, no, no. This is completely wrong.

First you fly by them and overshoot by about 300 bamillion light years, then you turn around and overshoot it again, then you finally slow down and disengage at the right time, after nearly hitting the nearest planet.

;)

Regarding the Unidentified Signal Source, I actually saw that bug last night too. Dropped into a few with no points of interest. I'm going with "it's a bug" for now.

How many ships can you store?

Last night I bought a Hauler and stored my Sidewinder. I was poking around looking for my free Eagle, and couldn't find it.

It didn't erase my free Eagle when I stored my starter Sidewinder, did it?

Search the galaxy map for a system that has a blue ship icon on it, it will be the one where you have ships stored. (it's how I found mine after realizing we got a free eagle after doing about 5 missions all over the place)

Well just in case you're not aware, if you keep your throttle in the blue zone while in supercruise, the computer will keep your ship at the optimal speed to reach and safely disengage at your destination.

As many as you want far as i know. (400 000 000 000 ?) ;)

Its a bit tricky to find the freagle, make sure you open the system map and look for a station with a green triangle above it, because even if it mentions in the station that its in the system you are in, it might not be the same station.

Also, ice asteroids in nebula.... wow
I will settle in a nebula for sure whenever i can play.

Don't forget the random interdictions.

Man I don't think they have any systems in place to restore or rollback a player's save data when corrupted by bugs. Think my only option is to clear my save and lose my 15 million in assets. Fuck. FUCK.

Gamma 2.01 incoming!

Make the dolly distance for narrowing the range of stars to show based on the focus range of the galaxy map
Remove the update tick from the galaxy map core. The disappearing systems was more distracting and helpful
Change the narrowing of the search range whilst moving in the core to be dependent on dolly position, so doesn't affect the zoomed in view
Change the focus of the star generation to be at the galaxy map camera when not zoomed in, instead of halfway between the camera and the cursor
If the client returns to the main menu, stop trying to serve them missions related information

Reliability improvments to trade route generation, market and faction background simulation and exploration data trading

It looks like there is some (justified) concern on the lack of content with ED but on the other hand, it seems like it gets updated on a pretty regular basis. Is it safe to assume we'll eventually have all the content we want/need?

Also, what's the latest on the OT? I'd be happy to make one, but I'm also a complete noob to the series, so it probably wouldn't be the greatest or most informative OT.

Just bought the preorder, guess it comes with a combat demo, trying to set that up right now. My plan is to use a combination of my Razer Orbweaver and my Logitech Extreme 3D.

I've noticed that the character's hands move when you use functions, is there any map of what functions are what in the game world? I think it'd make things nice and easy if I had a way to map it nearly 1:1 with my devices (Though of course I don't have a dedicated throttle)

Should I trade my Hauler for an Adder? on paper seems like a better space truck, and can actually try to tailor it as a combat craft if required.

From the patch notes

Voice Comms - Forever hanging ringtone on client fixed

Didnt someone earlier in the thread have this issue?

Its a long term project for FD and it'll continue to be updated for a long time as long as players show up of course. Im pretty sure that by this time of the year in 2015 we'll have a very different game experience than now in ED. And yes, they're rolling content at quite a good rate. We have to remember not too long ago it was in a very basic alpha state, in static areas with only dogfighting to test.

Yes, I think so. Launch day will be huge I think, a lot of background simulation is getting turned on then. Then there will be continual development for quite some time - there will be at least one expansion (walking around ships and stations is confirmed for a later date, for example).

Downloading 2.01 now. Love how quick they are with the patches, it's incredible.

Two expansions planned right now:

1st - player model and walking around ships / stations / spacewalks
2nd - planetary landings and atmospheric flight

I just hope the ships eventually become space Winnebagos. Where I can just be out in the middle of space and get out of my chair and go work on my engine or something.

My ultimate dream would be to 'spacewalk' and repair my ship from the outside with stuff I had on board. All NASA spaceship style. You could buy tools and such specifically for this stuff ...

Oh man, can't wait to see where it goes. I hope this and Star Citizen get into a content arms race since I'll most likely be playing both.

this is in the design doc for the first expansion, luckily for you. I can't wait for EVAs!

If you're having issues with 2.01, you might see if you have CCCP or K-Lite installed. A few people reporting that uninstalling those will fix you up.

Deleting the movies is also an option for those of you crashing on startup. They can be found at:

C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1001\Movies

Well, after i press open play the ship rotates for 90 degrees, then the loading gets stuck forever, uninstalling CCCP did not help either :/

I didn't even realize there were any startup movies. Are these just the frontier/elite logo when you first start the game?

Odd, pretty sure I just shot down a couple of wanted ships for a total of 7000 credits in bounty, but when I got to a station to get my check I apparently got nothing. Weird.

I am getting this one for Christmas, Amazon reviews say it works well with Elite.

Really great reviews. Plus many people on the Elite subreddit and official forums talk about how great it is for the price. It does lack buttons (but almost any controller does for this freaking game) and I've seen some pretty cool things done with a tablet/power grid that even I have considered until I memorize my layout.

You've got to be shitting me, I took a few hauling missions after the 2.02 update and got disconnected from the server. Now when I log back in I have unremovable cargo and nothing in the transactions menu.

You're playing a pre release gamma that is undergoing a massive update push this week. Relax and have fun with it.

Tried playing last night, but couldn't accept any missions (said server wasn't available). Ended up logging off after leaving the station and re-docking.

I had this exact same problem earlier on in the beta, it's a bit too close to the release date to be having these sorts of issues still persisting.

In any case I jumped the gun, a simple reconnection seemed to have fixed the problem. The server itself seems to be a bit unstable at the moment.

Well, my wife just surprised me by ordering the T-Flight HOTAS X from Amazon. Can't wait to play with it. I'm swapping between m/kb and the Xbone pad now.
Now I just need a trackIR and life will be gooooood.

Any news on if there is preloading or not? Full game is only 4-5 days away.

Unsure, you mean if you haven't paid anything yet? I don't think so. They are handling the launch(er) themselves and I haven't seen anything regarding that. If you're looking to buy you can download the game right now if you purchase it.

So I got the preorder (no beta, but some combat training apparently?) and hooked up my Rift and my dusty ass Logitech stick that Id had used all of twice, and hooooooly shit is this awesome.

Cannot wait for the full game. Just being able to look down and watch my hands on the stick is amazing.
