I think we've lost the sliver of hope we had for Kuvira getting some depth. She flat out did not give a fuck about Bataar Jr, which comes across as pointless just to make her seem like more the bad guy.
They made sure to include shots of the decision weighing on her. She gave a fuck, she just wants the city more.

From what I understood, the colossal Mecha was made from Zaofu's domes, so they've been working on that thing, or planning it, for some weeks now, possibly even before Varrick discovered the spirit weapon.

The metal from the domes was probably another reason Kuvira wanted Zaofu so much.

Oh, speaking of reactions.

Korra comes back and tensely but otherwise calmly states that there is a hundred foot giant robot coming to blast this city off the face of the earth.

Their reaction to this news is also tense, but otherwise calm and orderly. Like, no. You just got told a giant fucking robot is coming to wreck your shit. This is the appropriate reaction to have.

For those unfortunate enough to have never read Sandman, this isn't missing any speech bubbles. This is the character trying to reply, and failing because he can't think of anything to say to what he has just been told.

That is the only plausible reaction to have.

On another note, while I understand that Kuvira is supposed to be a serious character, she really should have laughed her ass off at the President's impotent threat. "Bitch, I am literally standing in front of you in a giant fucking robot. Are you SURE you do not want to rephrase what you just said to me, ant?"
there are people who have never read Sandman? Those poor creatures

I find it a bit silly that they still ride old school cars and fucking blimps, but somebody had the mechanical engineering knowledge to make a giant robot. Well to be fair, what the fuck are Varric and Bataar Jr doing that they aren't out there creating every vehicle available.

She had atleast a lifetime to accomplish everything. With Bataar, this is literally overnight.

Toph has a foot radar that spans the entire continent, Suyin makes Leonardo Da Vinci look like a chump, and Bataar Jr. just shrank Tony Stark's penis to microsize.

What next, Opal awakens to find out she is actually omnipotent and rewrites all of reality?

So Opal is evil then :p

Seriously though if he did it in that time then yea that's fucking crazy, especially if Varrick had no idea

I'm sometimes concerned for you.

i learn to blot it out

I think book 1 is far superior to book 4. Book 1 had better pacing, a far superior villian (for 98% of the season), no clips episode, and none of these budget cut stills from the last episode.
Actually after i posted that i was talking to my brother about the same thing. He convinced me I was wrong. Book 1 is defintly better as a whole. I still think book 1 is the best looking of the seasons as well.

You think so? Was it the hug in the beginning that swayed you? Or just that they had planned to be married from the get-go?

While I like to think she did have feeling for Jr, I can't really feel convinced from what I've seen in this show.

Just embrace it, guys.

Embrace the murderous Empress.
Its ambiguous, we can only speculate, since we arent show much of her character, but since we start seeing her at the first episode of book 4, Kuvira was already a power hungry, manipulative bitch that played everyone, bandits, Bolin, the Governor, Varrick, the united republic, etc. who is to say she not played with junior too? she goes along with him because he is useful loyal, and is a card against opal and suyin, she did care for him, but i think by the moment we first see her she would not hesitate to throw him away if he became an obstacle, like Bolin.
Thats my take anyways, people say she cared for him, and maybe she did at one time, she did not truly loved him.

Kuvira is still going to avenge his death, i suppose.

So are we getting a distant finale of who's fucking who and who's had who's baby?

oh god I just remembered harry potter and laughed like a madman.

Korra with a mustache going to her son.

"Mommy why did you name me this way"

"Now now son. I named you after some of the most influential people in this world."

"But I hate my name"

"Guru Laghima Tenzin Aang Sokka Bumi you take that back"

Korra and Asami, Korra has kid.

Opal and Bolin, no kids because Opal will be ruined in the upcoming battle.

Kuvira and Bataar Jr. doesn't matter, Kuvira can have kids on her own if need be but who wants that?

Tenzin and Pema has already been done, though.

I want this to happen just so we can have a shit Storm like the Naruto fandom did.

Redemption!?

She's been putting people in concentration camps! I'm pretty sure the only reason there hasn't been an implied holocaust happening is because this is still a Nick show.

Sheesh. Citizens being imprisoned doesn't have to be holocaust levels concentration camps. Was the fire nation creating holocaust camps during their war? No.

It's the same reason I know you wouldn't put the German camps on the same level as the American ones during that time period.

Full on, sans-poison Korra in Avatar State vs Kuvira in Mecha Suit was indeed my dream finale from early on, even before the trailer.

I figured we would see some sort-of battle like that in Book 4, mainly because of the focus on Earth and also because of the ATLA: The Rift comics trilogy, which
showed Aang using the Avatar State to created a colossus of his own, pretty neat. As well as hinting as finding balance between the Spirit and Physical world.

I really didn't like....how Korra's threat worked.

Like, what?

Just keeping him away from her? If things went according to plan, they could rescue Bataar or something.

Good ep besides that I guess.

IMO, she should've bluffed taking away his bending or something.

But Bataar is a non bender. I guess she could've castrated him then.

Baatar Jr. is a non-bender.

On the one hand, yeah, I also didn't like the threat from Korra. On the other, Kuvira showed them just how stupid that idea was in the first place.

So yeah, giant mecha suit. I'mokaywiththis.

Poor Bataar Jr., his great love shooting him down. Watch the blast from Kuvira's canon infusing Korra with new found power which will reconnect her with past lives or something like it. Aang will give some great advice and goes on that Sokka would have loved the mecha suit.

I was expecting her to take him to the Spirit Realm and use that to break him. Trapping him there as a threat would be pretty effective too--what could Kuvira do about that?

Yeah, I thought that too, that korra would take him by force to the spirit world or something, using energy bending.

The thing about Baatar Jr.'s supposed love for Kuvira is that, we actually saw a bit more of Kuvira's love for HIM, and not the other way around.

Even though the Giant Mecha was a bit silly, I'm going to really miss this show. Only one week left now. Here's hoping the ending is fantastic.

Well, friends… today was our last official day at Nickelodeon. Mike and I posed in front of a poster that a bunch of you generous fans made for us at NYCC back in 2008 as a way for us to say THANK YOU! You are an amazing international community of creative, thoughtful, progressive humans and we are lucky to have had your support in our endeavors all these years. I mean, you guys won Tumblr gold and bronze yesterday! We hope you enjoy the 1-hour Korra series finale next week. We’ll be staying busy and staying in touch. I wish you all the best in your own endeavors and creative journeys!

Couple of Reviews for Kuvira's Gambit.

Whoever is left standing is going to have one hell of a challenge stopping Kuvira, and the best thing this episode does is put the heroes in an underdog position. The stakes are monumentally high for Team Avatar, but that will just make their victory all the more satisfying. Or maybe Kuvira will win and the series will end on a huge downer. Either way, we only have to wait one more week to find out.
AV Club

Between Republic City's evacuation and Kuvira's giant mecha suit, The Legend of Korra's third-to-last episode set the stage nicely for an all-out showdown in next week's two-part finale. In addition to fun character moments (Zhu Li confronting Varrick, Mako reading protocols, etc.), "Kuvira's Gambit" also featured some heavy and powerful beats, particularly for Korra and Kuvira.
As the saying goes, this is the beginning of the end...

Oh, oops. Good catch.
Still wished they did a different threat.

I was expecting her to take him to the Spirit Realm and use that to break him. Trapping him there as a threat would be pretty effective too--what could Kuvira do about that?

Yeah, should've been a Spirit Realm threat or something.

What a fucking piece of trash episode.

I am sorry, I am a HUGE fan of giant robots but they do not belong in Legend of Korra at all.

When was it developed? Who developed it if Verrick nor Zhu-Li knew about it? Why the fuck is it on a mech and not on an airship instead?

God damn. I didn't think it could get worse than the stupid Kaiju fight but it definitely just did.

After watching today's episode, I'm trying to let it all sink in right now. But I will say, with what Kurvira did at the end of this episode, it made her come across as an insincere dick.

Also, I've forgot how top-heavy Korra is. I mean, goddamn!

Wonder if there'll be preview for the next episode considering they only finished production on them a couple of days. They're usually up on Nick in around 2 hours or midnight for the EST
Either won't be able to watch it for a while as i've got a wedding to go to.

HAHAHA THEY DID IT THEY ACTUALLY DID IT HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

I just watched episode, lol giant robot. Still, it was pretty good, they managed to pull it off.

Only thing that stood out to me was the stupid Meelo comic relief. Stahp Bryke.
