DmC Definitive Edition ($40, major rework) & Devil May Cry 4 (w/ Vergil) for XB1/PS4

It's not shallower, it's actually very shallow, and nothing in DmC can be considered as the best in the series. Period.
As i said, they outdid themselves, i actually like it, but it can't hold a candle to 3 and 4.
I'd say that the art direction for the environments blows anything the previous DMC's had out of the water.

I will say this: at least the HD remasters of last gen packaged 2-3 games together into one item

Now it looks like individual games are getting releases just on their own

OP needs more info on DMC4!! Here's to hoping it has the turbo mode that was in the PC version. And the ability to play every level with each character.

Nop, it's very good, and the visuals in general are great, as it is a much newer game, but everyone agrees that the first DMC had the best art direction.
I've seen many people say that it has the best atmosphere(which I agree with) but I hardly ever see anyone compliment its art direction.

DMC has the best art direction, I will say it right now. The art design of the environments and enemies is particular unmatched in the series.

DMC4 actually had a pretty damn good soundtrack.
It's my new study music for now. :P

Confession: I've never actually played DMC1 (or 2). Should I find a way to play it?

DMC 1 is still a good game. it doesn't touch the heights of the series at all, and is somewhat rough, as to be expected, but its still very fun to play. I liked the remnants of RE4 you can find in it. The gothic setting, the horror like elements with the zombies that come out at night time, the creepy music all around. A far cry from the over the top zanyness of DMC3 and 4.

DMC2 is shit.

I may check this out eventually. My main gripes with DMC are:

1. Character design just doesn't do it for me compared to the older designs.
2. World setting is uninteresting to me (don't care for urban environments).
3. Just the way the camera moves and the color scheme they chose for everything doesn't feel right to me.

I like the game, but I'll keep my PS3 copy. Don't want to pay $60 for this again. I guess, maybe after a price drop or 2 I'll think about it.

EDIT: Oh, only $40? Still, I want to pay maybe $20 for it.

I enjoyed this massively on PS3 (even given the poor frame rate) but never finished it. I'm looking forward to getting this and playing it through at a lovely smooth 60 fps :P

This was a nice surprise after the chaos of the 20th Anniversary PS4 fiasco earlier!

I can agree that the enemy designs are pretty unique but the environments, for the most part, don't really stand out all too much to me.

Can't be considered the worst in the series either, considering DMC2 is still around.

You do mean the 1st game correct? (Not sure if you were having a caps lock fail) If you are then I agree with you. DMC1 was just flawless from a art direction standpoint. I'm not sure why the later games struggled to match it but maybe starting as a RE game helped somehow in that regard.

DmC had really good use of color in the environments and character/enemy designs but the actual art direction was pretty generic aside from the great way NT handled environmental transformations.

Well BAM there it is.gif

Do want DMC4: Vergil edition. Do NOT want Donte Must Cry: Fuck You More edition.

They wouldn't dare to charge 80 bucks if both came in the same package though, which I guess it's more what he's complaining about.

It should be 40~50 for both (or half for each), not 40 each.

I'll buy both anyway though.

I've seen many people say that it has the best atmosphere(which I agree with) but I hardly ever see anyone compliment its art direction.

The art direction of both 1 and 3 was awesome, and 1's atmosphere=art. The art direction is impacting the character and environmental design, the color palette and the atmosphere of the medium anyway.
The only game that suffered on the art department was 4, due to the known constraints, as the game was rushed, but even then, it suffered mostly in the environment department and in enemy/boss variation. I found both Nero and Dante excellent in 4, and most of the other designs ranging from plainly good to great.

DmC does not have amazing art direction. It's flashy, it's colorful, it's cool, the Stygians and co are nicely designed, but it's really not like the original.
There are also too much happening on screen, not only the kind that distracts you from combat, but also the kind that impacts the performance greatly, and that's a pretty bad design choice.

You're actually arguing with the wrong person. As i said, i like it. I like it enough to have NT on my radar for their future projects, but i don't like it enough to want NT replacing Itsuno any time soon

Never played either of these apart from their demos. And I played DMC4 demo before I was really into the genre in the slightest. As a result, I'm interested in both of these, and then I can decide for myself which direction I want for the series.

More like prepping DMC5.

That's what I was going to say.

And yeah, probably DMC5, but it's probably just a small team until they can see there is an interest for the franchise on those platforms (so they can cancel it easily if it's not the case).

If you choose Donte over Vergil and Uncle Dante...: You chose, poorly.

I want more information on Vergil's play style in DMC4. If they take out the Vergil style on Dante and give Dante his DMC3 "style button" moves back on the four styles: OMG.

Also it's hilarious that Ninja Theory is using the DMC3 Donte Costume in this trailer.

DMC4 all the way.

I'd like to see a continuation from the original creator. I don't know if I want a DmC2 after playing the series from when it first came out. I'm definitely excited about the additions they've given to DMC4. It takes me back to when they made DMC3:SE.

Konami has to be thinking about Revengeance remaster for nextgen. If they release that I am so buying it to support eventual release of Revengance II: Jack has fucking returned.

I don't think exchanging opinions is something 'wrong' to do. I'm not trying to convince you into thinking otherwise. Also, where does DMC2 fit into all of this or does it not exist?

I think it'd be really great to have, especially if they coincide or release it around the time when MGSV comes out.

We will see. :) For what it's worth, I prefer classic Dante to Donte from everything I've seen.
