Dark Souls GFWL to Steamworks Migration is now live.

Thanks, but Im still having the same problem (I deleted all x360ce stuff). Guess I'll keep using the 360 pad.

Might need to disable other controllers/input devices if they show up in your Game Controllers menu. Always causes problems for me in DS1 and 2 unless the dual shock is the only entry in there

Game crash just after launch. Did follow the steps, my Steam achievements popped and stuff.

Cannot play the game at all, I even deleted every save and config files.

Prepare to Uninstall Edition.

Besides Steamworks integration, any other changes? Is DSFix still needed?

Apparently DSFix is still needed and you have to use the newest version if you want the FPS unlock to work again.

Got all the steam achievements after I logged in to GFWL. Can I now avoid logging into GFWL all together now upon start-up?

Yes.

Just opt into the 2.0 beta version (it will download a ~46mb file) and it should work like other steam games.

Can you transfer saves and still opt out of the beta though?

If you already opted in and want out then Yep. That's what i did as an experiment and it ended up in the situation i mentioned in the last post.

Opted back in, ran the game and my saves were still working.

might want to back up data just in case though :p

I had to temp remove (the old) DSfix to even get the game running and transfer cheevos and save after the patch, if anyone else has troubles

Bought digitally and only have a LIVE Access Code
will a game key show up if I download and launch or will I have to buy it again

60 FPS is great and all, but after 1000's of hours playing at almost 30 on consoles and PC, I really don't like what it does to the game engine. Shorter rolls, faster falls, some animation issues on weapon attacks, enemy animations, PvP sync issues, ladder sliding, etc.

Also, can't seem to get rid of the brutal screen tearing, even with locking frame rate in GFX card settings, setting Vsync to on too.

Guess I'll just stick to 30 FPS.

Also Steam migration broke the Cheat Engine mod I was using for Perma Gravelord Aggro Mod, so I will have to postpone finishing my Pure Black (NG+7, Perma Gravelord, Aggro Mod) playthrough. I almost finished it, just Manus, Kalameet and Gwyn left. Hopefully there is an update for that soon, really want to play a Pure Black Meowcenaries playthrough now that Steam migration is Live.

Ah yeah, that happens. I managed to fix that problem somehow, but it was annoying as fuck, can't find the guide that helped me though. I'm certain it involved removing and changing registry keys and uninstalling GFWL and manually deleting files.

It's a fucking mess I tell ya

Apparently all I had to do was remove 2-step verification from my hotmail account.

Anyway, downing the patch now, apparently I did have some achievements unlocked, lets see if that carries over. But no save file lol.

I downloaded the game just now to get my old saves to steam, but when the game starts the gfwl ui does not appear. Not even if I press the home key.
Anyone else with the same problem?

Edit:
Now I tried again and it always crashes with .exe problem.
I don't have dsfix, and things like fraps, afterburner, etc. aren't running. This is ridicuolus. :/
Edit 2:
It finally happened! I erased any sign of gfwl from my computer, then I installed it freshly as administrator in win7 compatilibilty mode and by now my saves are on steam and I can finally forget about it ever existed.

woah it works! Had to delete some controller and reinstall the 360 pad drivers but now it works!

Thanks both for your help!

You do not need to buy again. The instructions are in the OP. For convenience though, here you go (I think the live access code must be the serial, but you should have one somewhere even if that isn't it):

For users who purchased a Game for Windows live version from a retailer (Disc) or Games for Windows Live Marketplace (Digital):
1) We recommend that you add Dark Souls™ Prepare To Die to your Steam account using your serial
2) Launch the game and connect to Games for Windows Live.
3) Run the game (only the currently signed-in user’s Save Data and Achievements can be transferred to Steam).
4) Close the Game.
5) Right click on your game in the Steam Library, go into Properties, check that the BETA tab is set to “dsptde-2.0-“
6) Launch Dark Souls™ Prepare To Die Edition v2.0 from Steam
7) The game will look for previous Save Data and Achievements. If Save Data and Achievements are detected on your computer, you should be able to continue your progress in the game. Achievements should be unlocked in Steam.

I forgot I've got a fresh install of Windows since I last played this...

Do you need to load it before changing to beta? I don't even want to play the game again - 72 hours and 1000/1000 GS - I just want the Steam achievies.

Edit: I supposed I do, so I'm "signed in", despite being signed in to the GFWL marketplace (and friend notifications popping whilst it's downloading)

Oh wait, so you can have both versions if you opt in and then opt back out?

Goddamn, that was seamless. I switched to the beta version of DS and my saves and achievements were all just there immediately, no extra fuss. And then Durante comes in with the new DSfix :D Thanks to you and whoever else has helped along the way, it's so great playing Dark Souls at high resolution and frame rate!

Tonight I'm going to go crazy in the forest.

I've already tried the live access code and that didn't work. Didn't work for the SSF4 switch either. There's no other code so i'm going to try downloading and launching the game

btw dunno if its true those regional online problems. Been in Anor Londo for more than an hour and never sae neither a summon sign or an invasion.

There should be one in a message from when you bought it apparently

As some one who has played over 1000 hours on steam with DSFix unlocked FPS, there is something a lot smoother with the frame rate this time. Like I can't even explain it. I have really sensitive eyes, and other people on reddit have noticed it, too.

It's still not available in my region on steam (luxembourg) shit is so weak I guess I should use a proxy or something

I can't copy my CD key from the Steam overlay window (maybe because the game is windowed?) and it's too obnoxiously long to manually type in GFWL. I also noticed dsfix is gone in the DATA folder so it must be gone. Help!
