Into my fucking veins. That cinematography.

Looks fucking amazing. I wasn't a big fan of To the Wonder but I've been waiting for Knight of Cups for a long time.

That cinematography is unreal. The natural colors just pop, mainly because Malick seems to avoid using blue/orange/etc. filters the way so many movies do.

I'm a fan of Malick's work. I absolutely love his screenwriting. I adored Tree of Life and To the Wonder, and I can already tell I'm in love with this movie.

A lot of the shots seem to be directly lifted from To the Wonder, however; and Bale looks like he stepped out of a time machine (So young! Goes to show how long post-production takes on a Malick film).

Also, did anyone else notice 'Bane'? :p

Kinda crazy knowing that they filmed this almost 3-4 years ago.

Hell, didn't he film another movie simultaneously around that time and that too still hasn't come out yet?

i thought he shot to the wonder and knight of cups simultaneously, or at least back-to-back

I found To the Wonder to be kind of amazing. It occasionally felt like a Malick retread but there's some gorgeous moments throughout. Also, one of the most honest portrayals of lower-class rural America I've ever seen on film. At times, ironically enough (given Malick's lofty visuals), it felt like a documentary. Anything involving Javier Bardem's character felt strikingly original and, for Malick, groundbreaking.

This one looks great, obviously.

Yep, 'Project V' with Ryan Gosling. Supposedly it's coming out next year. And there's still no time frame on 'Voyage of Time'.

He also shot that Michael Fassbender/Ryan Gosling & Rooney Mara/Natalie Portman movie during the same timeframe. The man is an utter beast and one of the greatest living directors we have tbh.

Not even that big a Malick fan but this is going to be good bros. Bale going into the depths of modern life like no other Malick character has.

I NEED to watch a Malick film for once. I saw the first half of New World and loved it.

Also, he gets Cate, Natalie, Isabel Lucas, Nicky Whelan, AND Teresa Palmer? Bastard.

why only the first half?

It was a friend's copy and I had to put it down for a few days due to work load. By the time things cleared up it was months later and I wanted to rewatch it but he had moved away.

So not because of the film, I was loving the film.

ah, yes! that's the one. i still know jack shit about that project, though. can't argue with the casting, that's for sure

This looks like a music video made by skater bands in the 90s. Fisheye lens everywhere. I fully expected a CKY song to start playing and Bam Margera to show up.

But since it's Malick, everyone will call it "cinematography and brilliant"

The New World is the only Malick film I struggle to get through. It doesn't help that I'm not a huge Colin Farell fan. I'd enjoy that film a lot better if the Bale/Farell roles were reversed.

Will watch just for that cinematography and all dat Bale.

I've only seen Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line so I should start a backlog soon.

Thematically it reminds me somewhat of Der Himmel Uber Berlin by Wim Wenders.

Especially the accompanying poem by Peter Handke:

When the child was a child
It walked with its arms swinging,
wanted the brook to be a river,
the river to be a torrent,
and this puddle to be the sea.

When the child was a child,
it didn’t know that it was a child,
everything was soulful,
and all souls were one.

When the child was a child,
it had no opinion about anything,
had no habits,
it often sat cross-legged,
took off running,
had a cowlick in its hair,
and made no faces when photographed.

When the child was a child,
It was the time for these questions:
Why am I me, and why not you?
Why am I here, and why not there?
When did time begin, and where does space end?
Is life under the sun not just a dream?
Is what I see and hear and smell
not just an illusion of a world before the world?
Given the facts of evil and people.
does evil really exist?
How can it be that I, who I am,
didn’t exist before I came to be,
and that, someday, I, who I am,
will no longer be who I am?

When the child was a child,
It choked on spinach, on peas, on rice pudding,
and on steamed cauliflower,
and eats all of those now, and not just because it has to.

When the child was a child,
it awoke once in a strange bed,
and now does so again and again.
Many people, then, seemed beautiful,
and now only a few do, by sheer luck.

It had visualized a clear image of Paradise,
and now can at most guess,
could not conceive of nothingness,
and shudders today at the thought.

When the child was a child,
It played with enthusiasm,
and, now, has just as much excitement as then,
but only when it concerns its work.

When the child was a child,
It was enough for it to eat an apple, … bread,
And so it is even now.

When the child was a child,
Berries filled its hand as only berries do,
and do even now,
Fresh walnuts made its tongue raw,
and do even now,
it had, on every mountaintop,
the longing for a higher mountain yet,
and in every city,
the longing for an even greater city,
and that is still so,
It reached for cherries in topmost branches of trees
with an elation it still has today,
has a shyness in front of strangers,
and has that even now.
It awaited the first snow,
And waits that way even now.

When the child was a child,
It threw a stick like a lance against a tree,
And it quivers there still today.

The New World is one of my favorite movies of the 2000s. I was shocked to see how mixed/negative the critical reception was after watching it.

I hope this is better then Tree of Life. God did I find that pretenious as hell, though I can guess I am not the target audience but I can't think who is.
