What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

Need for Speed Rivals

Yoshi's New Island. I bought it to get a free digital copy Pokémon X, but I wish I would have bought Mario Kart 7 digitally instead...I didn't enjoy much of my time with it because it was basically Yoshi's Island with crappier music, poor use of vehicles, and conflicting art styles.

If these were the two worst games I played this year I'd be pretty damn happy.

The worst game I played was Alien Isolation, but that 's not so much that it was bad as it was disappointing. I felt like the game design was sloppy, but I really wanted to like this game, I liked what they were aiming for.

As I'd already bought most of the games on the list, I got GAME & WARIO as my MK8 freebie. Holy fuck that's a poor game. How the mighty have fallen.

Thief

Dear Christ just fuck this game. Boring, shitty gameplay, art style was horrendous and I never knew how to start half the missions. Hands down one of the worst games I have ever played.

Pissed off just thinking about it.

Lords of the Fallen. First, I buy the PC version and it crashes to the desktop on the first run. Support from the developer absolutely sucks. Their web ticketing system wouldn't even submit my information. They had a drop down on the page that would cause all information entered to clear. I got a refund via Steam points, and then decided I really wanted to play it, and got it for PS4. Finally! I'm playing the game, not too bad an intro and looks fairly nice. I got stuck in the very first room due to a bug. The first door did not give me a prompt to open it. I spent a half hour in that room thinking I was a blistering idiot. Turns out I was, I bought that game.

OP asked for worst, not most disappointing, which is what people seem to be answering (I think we already had that thread). Destiny, ACU, and MCC keep popping up, but they weren't bad games per se, especially now that MCC is functioning, but they were sure as hell disappointing.

The worst game I played this year was the Assassin's Creed Unity Companion App. The app was basically a waiting game that encouraged players to spend money and the rewards from the game actually showed up in my ACU game 10% of the time.
I think the console game I enjoyed the least this year was Watch_Dogs, but I still played the hell out of it so I don't feel like that's a genuine answer. I think I enjoyed most of the games I played this year, but I guess I didn't delve into many non-AAAs

Huh, thought I posted here.

Worst was Wii Sports Club. I haven't played many games this year, and I really like it, but it's definitely the worst I've played.

I've been pretty fortunate.

Well and truly disappointed with Destiny. Bought digital so it's mine forever. C'mon DLC, redeem my purchase!

Good luck.

Assassin's Creed Liberation HD.

Nope, no, nada, negative, never again.

It may be a vita port, it may have been $5, but it is without a doubt the worse AC game to date. Terrible story, boring missions and Agate (75% the reason I hated the game, worst mentor EVER).

Aveline was okay as a protagonists.

Worst and most disappointing can go hand in hand.

They can, but not always. Colonial Marines is an example of both because it was both disappointing and a bad game. I feel like a "worst game contest" should have the games judged in a vacuum, independent of people's hype and expectations. It's like judging games by what they could have been instead of based on what they are.

Destiny, for example, was disappointing because the world was so much smaller than we were lead to believe, but I'll be damned if it didn't have some of the best art, music, gameplay, and visuals of the year. It's not a bad game, it's just not as good as the game we were playing in our minds before it launched.

Was Batman Arkham Origin Blackgate released this year on PC/360 etc ? If so that would be another on my shitlist, in fact probably at the top now that I think of it. Utter shit.

I love Pokken!
Yep. Rambo is the POS of the year. Still can't believe EDGE gave this game a higher score than Lords of Shadow 2

Not a terrible game per se, but the biggest disappointment of the year for me was Infamous Second Son. I was expecting a next gen game, we got a boring PS3 game with a paint of coating.

That and the main city hub with all the absurd loadings in Thief ''next gen'' were atrocious.

Probably Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy since, as the final game in the prequel trilogy, it really sucked in terms of story and puzzle variety.

Watch_Dogs. I wouldn't say any one feature in it was particularly bad, but it had so much "meh" in it that it became terrible in aggregate.

Thief was probably the worst game I played this year, but I really wanted to like it. I loved the setting and there were some good parts in it (Bank Heist DLC mission) but my god was it clunky and just poorly designed. The world map layout was horrendous and with the loading times it was just a pain in the ass to navigate, and they send you all over that damn map.

Watch_Dogs I can tell is objectively a better game but it's just so bland and uninteresting that I think it deserves a special mention as well. While everything about it was mechanically solid it just felt soulless. There was nothing that ever drew me in and made me want to keep playing.

uncharted 3, i don't know what naughty dog did to the shooting controls but i couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, i played uncharted 2 for the first time maybe a month before and i had a 75% accuracy rating, in uncharted 3 my accuracy rating was 32%, uncharted 2 was great, 3 stunk, and how many times did i have to fight that big brute? 5 times?

I'm going to go with Mercenary Kings. Bafflingly long load times, crashes horrible (have not tested recent patches), and extremely repetitive. I get what they were going for, and I liked the general feel to the game, but it just wasn't worth the tedium.

Baffling load times. 20 seconds just to go back to the hub (consisting of like a dozen sprites in a small area)?

This is assuming that the people saying they are disappointed with a game is based on hype that was not met. I wasn't hyped at all for Destiny; I only got it because it was part of a PS4 bundle that was on offer at the time and cheaper than other bundles (including cheaper than console-only packages). I was disappointed with it because it was a game I didn't enjoy, which I think is a fair thing to say; most games we choose to play we go into with some level of anticipation or idea that it could be good, even without hype, and then if we don't like the game it will be met with disappointment.

I have played very few games this year, but after getting so much praise I couldn't wait to download The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Ended up being one of the most mind-numbingly boring, unfun and unenjoyable games I have ever played. The worst thing about it is how intolerably repetitive it is.

I'm at a point in my life in which I don't play "worst" game, as soon as a game don't like me: 1- I don't buy it, 2- I just stop playing it immediately.

That being said, the game that I least enjoyed this year was Transistor. Bought it and never finish it.

Edit: Was going to say Watch Dogs but then I remembered Transistor, I felt really dissapointed with that game...

Probably Yoshi's New Island, but it's all relative. For being the "worst" game I played this year, I had a pretty good time with it. It's more forgettable than bad, which means I must have played nothing but great to awesome games this year.

I have to say Watch_Dogs out of all the games I played this year I thoroughly enjoyed yes even Destiny. But Watch_Dogs I could not physically get past the first Act without falling asleep when a game is so uninteresting where I rather sleep then play I have to say that would be my worst game of the year

The Crew. I really wanted to play an open world driving game, so I put over 10 hours into it. I hated every minute, but kept going because I thought it would play better after I leveled up my car a bit (it gets a bit better, but nowhere near a tolerable level). I'm scared that we won't get a good open world arcade racer for a while now because of how bad it is, both in gameplay and sales figures.

Divinity: Original Sin, Shadow of Mordor and Dragon Age Inquisition are the only 2014 games I've played. Between those, I'd say Shadow of Mordor.

I was going to say Doki Doki Universe but apparently it came out in December 2013.

So, Binding of Isaac Rebirth it is.

Wow, there's so much wrong with this post I don't know where to begin.

Sure, a lot of it is subjective and I can understand (like disliking the artstyle), but some of the criticism about the controls and combat are flat-out wrong.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Valiant Hearts.
Infuriatingly buggy on PS4. Gave up on the game less than halfway through after realizing I'd spent more time replaying sections because of bugs than playing new content.
Fucking Ubishit... why do I never learn?

There's been quite a few stinkers released this mediocre gaming year.

I was not expecting much for Thief, so I had no hype for the game. However, I was not expecting awful level design, poor pacing and just being so boring. I really enjoy stealth games, so I can withstand stealth games that has poor story, mediocre visuals and etc, but this game goes beyond that. 4/10

WWE 2K15 made history for me in terms of me begging EA to take the WWE license. You don't charge $25 for a season pass($20 extra for the wrestlers and moves pack, so that's $45 for dlc) when you removed SO MUCH from 2k15 compared to 2k14. On top of that, the reversal sucks and the gameplay is too slow for my liking. People may talk negative about EA, but 2K Games make them look like saints in this generation so far with AWFUL microtransactions. 4.5/10

Destiny is mediocre, but that damn gunplay feels so good. However, I can't recommend it for $40-60 due to the content in that game. 5/10 at current price. 6.5 at $20 and below.

There's other games, but I can't think of any more than that.
