What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

I was going to say Watch Dogs, but then I remembered that I played Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta at the very start of the year (it released in January on PC).

Now there was 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

The only game I played this year that I didn't like was Injustice on PS4, and it didn't even come out this year. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Aside from that everything has been pretty good. I would have said Driveclub when it first released, but the updates and tweaks have made it a really fun game and I've spent a lot of time with it.

I see Destiny getting a lot of votes, and I kind of understand why, but I think despite all of it's flaws, it is lots of fun to play and very polished.

I haven't played too many games released in 2014, but my least favorite has to be Watch_Dogs. Possibly the worst driving in any open-world game I've played, and I've played a lot of them. It's a shame because I really like a lot of the ideas and mission design, but the core gameplay of driving and shooting is just so unpolished and poor relative to its peers.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Shadow of Mordor. I did like the nemesis system, but it got super repetitive, and it's not even canon.

Velocity 2X on PS4. What a piece of garbage! My GF is never very critical towards anything but even she bashed it after watching me play it for an hour or two.

I haven't played that many games this year, and out of those I have played, none of them was bad. I've enjoyed all the games so far. But Lords of the Fallen was the most problematic one with the crashing problems the first 2-3 days until the patch came.

Valiant Hearts.
Infuriatingly buggy on PS4. Gave up on the game less than halfway through after realizing I'd spent more time replaying sections because of bugs than playing new content.
Fucking Ubishit... why do I never learn?

What bugs? Bought it day 1 and played it through in 6-7 hours. I had zero bugs during my playthrough. Only annoying thing was that digging section, because it's so clunky and yet you need to execute near pixel perfect movement.

And Valiant Hearts is my GOTY.

Don't Starve. God damn what a waste of 3 hours I put into that piece of shit.

I was going to say the same thing but then I remembered I played Planetary Annihilation this year. Got it on sale and still feel ripped off. Pixel Piracy is up there too, but I have hope for it.

I choose games careful so typically only pick good ones. Destiny full game - bought on launch day, realized it was just the beta plus some more stages, felt like such a let down.

Runner up was Infamous SS - played under an hour and was bored to tears. Again bought at launch, lent it to a friend a few days later and haven't asked for it back yet.

Watch Dogs- Aiden Pearce is a terrible character, the story/writing were laughable.

If it weren't for the new friendships I've forged. I'd say Destiny, but every cloud has a silver lining.

Worst I played was AC3. Picked it up cheap on steam. After 4.5 hours I was so damn bored I deleted it.

Worst released this year that I played is dragon age. I know it gets a lot of love but I don't get it.
- combat is so dull. Just cool downs and terrible AI partners.
- amazing tactics from DA:O totally gone. Tried to hide it with terrible tactical cam.
- pinging (holy shit why)
- so much filler
- spend most the game following way points and gathering mats.
- felt no connection to team mates
- story was bland.
- power system and lvl req meant just doing main story is impossible.

Just don't get it at all. Completed it in hopes it would improve and was birthday gift that was paid full price for. The odd moment gave me hope such as crestwood. But that was by far the best bit.

Saying that I don't play many truly bad games because I normally know what I will like.

I don't understand how anyone could have possibly said Dragon Age and meant it. Not your cup' o tea -- sure, but worst game you played in 2014? That's rough. The game is great on production value and quality of polish/depth alone.

Dragon Age is ridiculously shallow and I don't see how anyone could call it polished at all. It is a huge glitch fest.

Strictly from what I've played and finished, The Evil Within. Terrible performance, terrible characters, terrible letterboxing, nonsensical and convoluted plot (that nevertheless is extremely basic)... what a terrible game.

Destiny. This game, in my opinion, failed on two fronts:

1. The most bland story I have ever seen
2. Criminal waste of acting talent

Made much worse by the fact I purchased a digital copy.

Bish loves my games!
Shadow of Mordor. I did like the nemesis system, but it got super repetitive, and it's not even canon.

Oh come on now. A) How was it ever going to be canon and tell you a new story? B) The repetitiveness was necessary to some degree. C) It's really the absolute worst game of 2014 you played? How many games did you play?

Road Not Taken or a puzzle game on Vita PS+...can't remember the name of it..was OK til I got to the point when I had to rotate the Vita to solve puzzles and I almost dropped it twice in 5min..then deleted and never touched again.

Least enjoyed: Tie with Mario Kart 8 and Battlefield 4. I was expecting to be blown away after the greatness that was SM3DW. I rushed home when I bought it to put it in....... and have it let me down immensely. Maybe I'm just that much of a fan of the SASRT style these days.

BF4 has to take the cake as worst due to the amount of bugs and shoddy performance. I don't like MK8 at all, but I can't in good conscience say that it's as bad as BF4(though I did finish the BF campaign which is more than I can say for MK).

I've seen others mention it, Destiny. I haven't actually bought a bad game this year, Destiny does look amazing and the movement/shooting mechanics are fun but it lacked so much content I was disappointed.

Assassins Creed Unity. After how much I enjoyed Assassins Creed Black Flag, Unity was a huge disappointment. I think it was mainly the controls that were awful.

Pretty much this. I'm a huge AC whore and man Unity was god awful terrible..the story was a mess, the controls were not great at all and I won't even start about #paritygate all the technical issues that plagued this game.

Such a huge fucking disappointment.

I didn't think anything would top Watch_Dogs...but here we are.

For me it was Bayonetta. I bought 1 and 2 for wiiU and started playing the first.
An hour in and I am still not doing much else but watching boring cheesy in-game cutscenes. I don't know, it didn't click at all for me.

I still have to try replaying it and then maybe try the second.

I realise that this is probably an amazing incredible game for most people so I'm only saying this title because it really was the worst experience of the year for me.

HALO: MCC

Honestly is the first game I've returned in 10 years.

This game also takes the cake for biggest gaming disappointment of the decade.

Disappointed in the way Destiny is being handled by bungie. If the core gameplay wasn't so fun to play especially with friends Destiny would be right next to HALO.

Worms Battleground. You wait for fecking ages for the xbox to take it's turn and when it does it never, ever misses. Good job it was free

Watch_Dogs bored me to tears after a few hours. Haven't played it since.

Most gaming this year was done on my WiiU, so I've been pretty happy.

I'm sad to say probably Thief, I was disappointed with Watch_Dogs, Destiny and Unity however I played them though to the end (or the beginning in Destinys case). I just couldn't finish Thief which really made me sad as I love the series. The sound being borked ruined it for me, being able to hear guards walking outside as if there were in the same room as me for example, with the conversation repeating over AND OVER again.

EDIT: Forgot about Worms Battleground however still going to have to go with Thief as Worms was free and I wasn't hoping for much.

Fell out of love with Lovely Planet.

I'm pretty tenacious and don't give up easily, but this one turned into the biggest chore I've ever encountered in my gaming life. Most quick looks and reviews only showed the first third of the game, which was definitely fun. The later half got incredible cheap with no margin for error.

Congrats, Lovely Planet. You worn out my patience, rare feat.

Going with Destiny. Was not hype at all with it, thinking it would be a inferior Bordelands type of game, but decide anyway to buy it. Sold it like a week after, just plain boring.

easy

Watch_Dogs

Not only the visual downgrade was a letdown, but the gameplay was lacking as well, it wasn't as cool hacking as they made you believe and it was mostly about guns in the end (except cop chases, oh those hideous chases!). Then terrible acting, and Aiden was the WORST main character that I can think of.

Add some technical problems to the mix, uninteresting characters, boring side quests, derivative story, bad narrative, mediocre acting, and you have the recipe for disaster.

I can't believe the high standards you guys have. Half of the games posted are excellent titles IMHO. I'm guessing people haven't played a lot of games this year, hence the reason behind most peoples choices.

I'll echo the OPs choice of Rambo: The Video Game.
The only reason I played this clusterfuck for more than 30 seconds is because it was so hilariously bad that it had me in stitches.

I may not be a big fan of Angry Joe but his review of the game is perfect.

Destiny

The amount of hype it generated vs. the short garbage game which they delivered is just mindblowing.
I really felt scammed.

3-way tie between Destiny, Master Chief Collection and AC Unity.

Destiny because its probably the biggest disappointment of my gaming life.

MCC because it doesn't freaking work.

AC Unity because performance was so awful I had to shelf it after a few hours.

MCC and AC:U could be and probably both will be fixed, so it would take them out of the discussion. Destiny however is beyond repair and they just keep making it worse. Most disappointing game ever.
