New GTA5 patch improves controls and fixes tree animation

I generally dislike GTA but the FPS mode for this is very intriguing. Any chance I would enjoy this?
If you have a PS4, someone could let you try it out through SharePlay. I have yet to do this, but I hear it works great (SharePlay). If you are on X1...then sorry...nothing for them :(

That is annoying and thankfully not what has happened here.

Believe it or not, some of us PC gamers(probably most) actually do own consoles yet choose to play many games on PC still.

I wasn't talking about all PC gamers. I was talking about the elitist douchebags who think they're better than anyone else because they only game on PC.

R* shows 'em 'ow it's fookin' dun!
Good work fellers! It's so nice to get a patch for a game that a) makes user requested changes, fixes and tweaks and b) gives us a few bonus treats for no reason other than 'why not?'. If all companies were so responsive and generous there would be a lot less pissed of gamers. Ubisoft take note!
Cheers R*!

Here's a question, in 3rd person with the default controls, when you entered stealth and then pressed the "sprint" button, you would just do a faster stealth walk. But in 1st person with the 1st person control scheme, if you tried to "sprint" while in stealth you would just start full out sprinting and leave stealth. Did they fix that?

Yeah, I noticed this the other night when I was doing the mission where you have to
plant sticky bombs on The Lost's trailers as Trevor.
I stealthed it, but had to fucking sneak at a snail's pace because there's no way to go any faster while in FPV. I'm not sure if they've fixed it, though. I hope so.

This is great! I was able to adjust to first-person driving, but shooting was absolutely terrible. I'll try this out when I get home from work.

I don't know why it is this way, but you go faster if you hold L2 and click the left thumbstick. At least that's how it is on Standard FPS controls. Really weird. I hope it gets patched too.

So when you're in first-person your movement speed is actually tied to the analogue stick, as opposed to 3rd-person where you're walking no matter how far you push it and have to hold X/A to jog. Going off that, when you sneak in first person, unless you're tilting the stick very slightly, you're already gonna be moving at the faster level, and if you sprint it's equivalent to tapping the button in 3rd person, which also kicks you out of sneak mode (last time I checked).

Ah, that would make sense.

Did this patch come out today? I'm looking through my PS4 notifications and it didn't say anything about the game downloading a patch.

My music cuts of for about 0,5 sek. every 20 seconds since the patch (PS4)

Does not always happen but have this several times just now ...

Awesome to see this happen. I'm actually surprised at how nice the tree animation is, it actually adds a lot to the game visually.

I'm interested to try the control updates too. I didn't have a big issue with them before, but I imagine the slight deadzone issue may have been partly why I usually play in third person.

A user named daltontigerboy over on the GTA V asked me to share his video showing how much easier it is for him to make accurate shots now:

Nice shooting! :D

Looks like its much improved!

One thing caught my eye though. This is an issue bothers me with a lot of games so it's not limited to just GTA.

See how angular the aiming is when trying to make small adjustments along the axis. The game sticks the aim towards the sides even though you are pushing the stick slightly up / down.

You console people are still beta testing my PC game, thanks guys!

and to think these are the same kind of people who cried over waiting 2 months

Well this is definitely a massive improvement. Not perfect but far better than before.

One thing I've just noticed with GTAV though.. I just had a crazy truck rampage while some perfect hillbilly crazy music was playing in game, it really made the rampage seem pretty hilarious to me... So I go to upload to YouTube and preview it, the music's stripped out! Is this new? I can't remember reading anything about it and sort of surprised the Share function on PS4 can have specific audio tracks removed like this, a real shame as my truck rampage just isn't the same without that music :(

It's always been like this. It's for copyright purposes.

As the creator of the #treegate social media hash tag I can now rest easy knowing my job is done. Thanks for the tens of people who made it trend slightly upward creating a low roar that was impossible for R* to ignore.

0,5/10

Sorry, but the "functional" trees are awesome.

Nope. The dead-zone customization is completely new.
Hmn.. I wonder what i'm mistaking it for then.
But good that it's there. Super responsive now.

Edit: i did have two glitches though. There is a side mission where you collect celebrity stuff for two old people and when i called them their voices weren't there on the other side of the phone. And i started blowing cars up on the highway for ten minutes and no cops came... It ended with me being killed by massive explosions.

So they listened to the feedback and acted on it? Kudos to Rockstar!

I remember when vice city on IOS came out and I posted a review saying I wished the custom soundtrack didn't start at the beginning of songs when you entered cars. They patched it within days to make it play like every other station.

Likely had nothing to do with me, but it felt like it.

It seems like such a specific patch, as if fan-driven with a gun to their head. Fix this, this annnd this!

Or maybe Rockstar is that good.
Probably
I remember they also released a patch for RDR on PS3 that allowed people to swap the trigger functions to the shoulder buttons not long after the game launched.

The tree swaying is such a minor thing but it adds so much to the atmosphere of the entire game. It just makes the world seem more alive. It's often very subtle, but that's why is works so well.

Fantastic. I'm enjoying the game a lot more with the tweaked controls. Smoothing out the acceleration curve makes a massive difference.

Holy fuck they weren't kidding about listening to their audience.

Based Rockstar. Best devs. GTAV is my favourite game of all time and it keeps getting better.

This massaging of the control scheme is a game changer for me. I double-dipped mainly for the refined graphics and the first-person mode, and frankly found it unplayable for long periods of time (read: > 5 mins).

With the controls adjusted similarly to the OPs I can now play it completely in first person mode. Well, that's not completely true. I do swap to 3rd person for driving, but that's only because I like to see more around me.

Once I got everything adjusted I hopped (read: carjacked) into a porche and drove along the coast to the Northern side of the island. Along my ride it began to rain--which totally put a smile on my face--and small puddles of water began to collect all about. I just had to pull over to take it all in. I notice the puddles were not just forming on the roads, but also in the grassy areas too. I walked over to the end of a puddle-filled cliff overlooking the beach and cowered at the massive storm which looked like it was barreling in to the mainland. I slowly panned around admiring the amazing attention to detail thinking this game is gorgeous!

I then turned around to go check out a nearby building and suddenly a fucking truck runs off the road, hits me at top speed and sent me flying into the water killing me.

Perfect, GTA. Perfect.

This. Is GTA. Great post. I'm making a point of picking up one of the GTA/TLoS bundles, and this update is just icing on the cake.

Well shit, I'm installing my PS4 copy right now

All the people that compared R* to Ubi are running into hiding now.

No one did that.
No one compared R* to Ubi....not this year anyway.

Depends, what did you hate about past GTAs.....I hated, hated GTA4 but loved all the others in the series.
And this one really is my favorite, so far....havent finished the campaign yet, but just walking around the city in First person mode has been an absolute blast.

I really have to respect R* for the work they put into this game.......truly impressive.
