Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

In my humble opinion gt7 will look better, honestly i have little doubt about this.

I hope you're right. I love Gran Turismo, it's my favorite racing franchise.

Like I said earlier, I really hope Polyphony learns something from Evo when it comes to car sounds, the car sounds in GT are just so pathetic. :( And maybe also improve on the sense of speed.

I am sure that PD are working on the sounds of the cars for the next GT. The recent patch really improved GT6's car sounds. Yes, they are far from perfect but it was a really good start.

I am also sure that the next GT will be technically better than Driveclub. I am not sure though that it will look "better". It will be pretty difficult to get a game whose focus will be on real life circuits, to come close to the eye candy scenery provided by Driveclub.

This weather update is incredible. It also completely changes the game. Absolutely love it, trying to tickle something vastly powerful and rear wheel drive around some of those soaking wet tracks is hugely satisfying.

Agreed, but how many patches are pure eye sex?

So xmas eve is coming and my family gathers at my house.

What's some good settings to use on a Canada track to show off the awesome rain effects? I'd like for it to start in day time and end at night.

Seems like I can never make it transition to night. I did a 60x day time race and went afk for 10min, came back and it was still day time.

Change the time of day to like 1800 or 1900 hours. (6 or 7 PM.)

Sinclair pass is a good one, I also think the Canadian P2P's are nice for showing off the effects.

Definitely Sinclair's Pass set it to around 11am at 60x speed or 1x around 1 pm... so you get the sun coming through the rainy trees on the southern leg of the track. Set it to light right and clear, too.

For Heavy Rain... almost doesn't matter which track because you can't see shit anyhow they all look great.

Maybe Chile, Los Pelambras (Reverse). Make sure it's reverse. When you come around the switch backs near the ending, right before that you get an amaaaaazing view of the valley below and the lighting is just incredible and blinding around 8am... and at night, with Heavy Rain.... the lighting is amazing. Set it to around 4am 60x speed Dynamic weather heavy clouds... you'll get both some amazing lightning at night and it'll clear up and the rain will stop a bit at least once during the day for an amazing valley view.

^that's like my go-to track... i've done it over 250 times by now i think... so I've played with the weather a lot

So.. I caved :( Just got my copy.

How is weather integrated into the campaign? And if it is does it affect star targets?

the original campaign (lap times/goals etc..) would be affected fundamentally by the weather, we think the Elements DLC will have the tour with weather

What? That view is literally called a chase cam. It's a camera view from behind the car.

And yeah, the views aren't inherently balanced, but why make chase cam the easy, unequivocal best view by not having any obstructions at all during weather? It could easily be a balancing thing.

Of course any view in any 3D game is technically a cam. But in fact, you are controlling the car, you are incarnating a hero, a car, etc, depending the game. When you play in third person, you are not in the eye of the hero that you are incarnating or Inside the car you're driving, you are in some non-existing position, some God point of view over things. Its a position that doesn't "exist" in the game world, it regards the player's realm. With that logic established, such a non-existing stance/point of view shouldn't abide by the same rules as a view that is meant to be in the game world (like being in the eye of the hero or inside the car.

When I am in chase cam (yes the easiest view for many things -- views aren't balanced and will never be), I am not supposed to received that rain in my eyes from my "non-existing-in-the-game-world point of view". Same thing as with a third person action game where I incarnate whatever hero, it doesn't make more sense that my screen receives shit on it because I am not impersonating the cam but the hero.

Basically, receiving shit on screen when it doesn't make sense becomes stupid and counter-immersive. Now some players will care about that, me included.

By that logic you should be able to see through walls in TPS and only be affected by them in FP view.
Are you also upset by all the TPS that have the screen change color or whatever when you're hit?

This or NFS:Rivals? I've been itching for a racer, and there's nothing that pops out.

I really, really enjoy car customization in driving games. Rivals seems to have more of that along with the sprawling open world, but this obviously has better driving mechanics and better graphics. How's the customization in this game? Can I make my car my own? Or is it very limited (i.e. a few decals and that's it)?

For example, could I make a blacked out M3 GTS with red brake calipers?

I've been considering a Xbox One for Forza Horizons 2 alone. Don't know if that's worth it seeing as I already have a PS4...but it seems to provide the best marriage of customization/openworld gameplay/driving mechanics/graphics

There is no customization in either game. Not in the way you're thinking, anyway. DC lets you change the liverys and that's about it. You can change preset livery's and layers of their colors, or you can put your badges on to make the cars your own, but really the changes aren't very pliable.

But don't even consider Need For Speed. Its not even a racing game. Its cops and robbers. Chase the bad guy or be chased by the cops. Its not a particularly pretty game either. And...ok, It does have racing, but the game essentially boils down to reaching the finish line before the cops can catch you. Or stopping the racers from getting to the finish line. I'd be more inclined to recommend The Crew than I would NFS. (But you probably shouldn't get The Crew either, heh.)

Tried out a couple of those track suggestions.

I won't lie, before today I had only played 2 tracks with the weather, one time a piece. Been waiting on the Elements DLC. But...this is like, the greatest driving experience I've ever had in a videogame.

Holy shit. Went into an argument with a friend of mine about driveclub. According to him, handling is horrendous and the sound of the cars are shit. Also, the music sucks.

:|

Driveclub is the first game that screams next gen. I'm a PC gfx snob and even I'm blown away by the visuals.

yup. The only thing, as a PC gaming snob, I wish was here was somewhat better AA at times and fuggin' 60fps.

I eagerly await the PS5 Remaster of Driveclub where that happens

I don't think I've ever seen a patch make so many people on GAF go "fuck it, bought".

It is a amazing racing game from day one, heck the online stuff was the only thing that was no fun but the game all ready was fun. Yeah now with the weather patch and gaf showing it off to lurkers and members it is a insta buy.

Been revisiting NFS Rivals on PS4, and I think it's a great looking game. But the persistant online world and over the top cops just suck the fun out for me. I was looking to get a few races in before heading to bed the other night, and as I'm trying to locate the safehouse that I apparently was right in the vicinity of, some other player busts me. I was furious as I'm just trying to advance my game and unlock some cars, and some prick is interfering with my experience thanks to the online world.

Because of this always online crap I wouldn't recommend Rivals to anyone.

There is one.....GT7.

I'm a little surprised at the assumtion that GT7 WILL look better.

I mean, I have all faith in Poly after what they got out of the PS3, but this is an incredible start for Driveclub and its set the bar, visually. GT will most likely run at 60fps, so you have to wonder what Poly will be able to do having to do everything twice as much.

There is a reason it's called chase "cam" and not "God point of view over things". You are controlling the car through the point of view of a floating camera that is chasing the car. It makes way more sense than your made up premise that the point of view doesn't even exist in the game world.

It's ok to not like a view and criticize it for breaking your immersion, as long as you recognize it as a subjective opinion. But let's not debate it under the guise of "logic".

A MP match in the rain...
Automotive Ballet!?: http://youtu.be/oDWSvS0y0aw

One thing I would like to see in a future patch or it will probably be DC2: when it is pouring really hard, there should be puddles and cars should splash water all over going through them. Right now it shows there is water on the surface but there is no splash going through them. Also it should change the car handling when going through a deeper pool of water than a shallow one. I think this is missing right now from the videos I have seen.

As beautiful as the weather update is, I'm glad you can turn the weather off or at least change camera views so drops aren't on the screen.

That way it prevents any ridiculous arguments about how annoying it is to have rain on the camera.

Pgr4 had hydro planing. Made for scary corners when there was standing water...

Personally, I think this is just design choice for now....for gameplay and visibility reasons.

we have to remember this game still isn't a sim.... after a few patches, the side roads slow you to a halt now, so I don't know if they want other things on the road itself that can slow you down or spin you out. They have always gave the impression that they just want you on the road as much as possible.

I know I'd nonchalantly guide folks into those deep puddles.
