EDIT: I think you may need the MCC licence/disc in order to launch the beta. As preview program owners, we had a special token that worked for the weekend.

Really loved my time with this. This and Titanfall are the best mp gameplay so far this gen in my opinion.

I love the weapon handling in general. Weapon zoom feels useful but not 100% necessary, making it still feel like a Halo game.

LOVE the magnum pistol.

Really like the BR and DMR. The gun model for the BR is really cool and I like the sights on it. They both handle well.

I love the mobility. It plays faster than previous Halos but still feels like Halo, which is a win to me. I always felt like Halo needed more mobility options. Sprint and dash really add to the gameplay and make gun battles more interesting. I think the TTK is good where it is now too, if it were higher these moves would make it really difficult to drop someone in the initial faceoff.

I like the aiming while midair makes you hover. Sort of stops all those bunny hoppers from constantly jumping and also being able to LT aim, since now they are sort of sitting ducks when they do.

Overall the gameplay just feels so good to me. I'd like to see a bump in resolution for the final game though, the 720p does look fairly rough. I'd take a 900p res if they can keep the 60fps, but above all the framerate needs to stay at 60fps.

Only dislike: the sword. Although I've always hated the sword in Halo games.
 
If anybody from Bungie is reading this, or if anyone else knows, will the three-week beta have dedicated servers or still P2P? If still P2P, is there going to be any proper location-based peering so I don't always end up playing someone in England or the US?

I'm loving the game when I play on Aussie hosted games (I've played only three) but otherwise the lag is just way too tragic to have any level of enjoyment with it.

Good thing that you can turn this off in the options (then you have to press sprint when in ADS midair to hover).

I enjoyed the BETA.

Like others I feel the AR was a bit too OP. I like the fact that it's a gun which can compete with the BR now, in previous Halo's it was a bit useless. But I'd like them to either keep the range it has but lower bullet damage, or keep the bullet damage but lower the range. Not by a lot, just needs tweaking IMO.

I couldn't get on with the Pistol at all, but I think that's down to my bad aim rather than the gun itself.

I like all the new things, thrusting, sprinting, ADS, climbing (I don't get how people can complain about this, just feels so normal).

The fact sprinting resets the Armor timer is really good and it's quite fun when you have someone on a 1 shot, and when they start running you have to chase them down and they're still on a 1 shot.

Only thing I weren't too keen on were the maps. Throughout the history of Halo's I've never really been a fan of the tight 4v4 games. It feels too competitive to me, I like the BTB's which just feels more fun. I hope there's some big maps, with 8v8 gameplay in the final release.

* AR if fucking nuts way too OP.
* Bumper jumper feels horrible, doesn't flow at all
* DAT SWORD LUNGE when scoped in is dumb.
* BR cosmetically when scoped is awful
* DMR feels weak
*Pistol having ridiculous fire rate makes it better than BR and DMR at close to mid.
* Movement feels sluggish, sprinting is far too quick
* Shield regen felt too fast
* It doesn't feel like a Halo game IMO

It's an absolute monster. Drops people stupid fast, it's arguably the worst gun to go up against at med/long range. If anything I was expecting people to say it needs a slight nerf.

I think it's fine as is. If they want to maintain their stance on ADS, I think the scope is fine as well. Having a clear view like older Halo games would make DMR crazy OP. I, like a few others have mentioned that it seems like the scope is designed to make it a long range weapon when in scope. Seems like a balancing act.

I still prefer using BR though.

Same here. Waiting a week or so to play again will be hard enough. Waiting to the actual release will be hell.

It's amazing how negative the vibe about this game has been for the past few weeks( the problems with MCC had a lot to do with this as well) many seemed to want to write this off before the beta even launched now after playing it the vibe is a lot more positive. Showing you should always at least give a game a chance before shitting. 343 really have something good here as far as i am concerned.

I didn't realize that this was ending already. I was so upset to see that message she I tried to play a match this morning. This game already feels so good. I can't imagine what another year of polish will do for it.
 
What if you could sprint and shoot at the same time? (How this would work is beyond me) Would that alleviate the problem?
actually titanfall and advanced warfare already has that, in titanfall it's the run and gun kit, in aw it's gungho, both allows you to fire smaller weapons like smgs while sprinting.
 
I had an absolute blast with the Beta this weekend.

Loved
-The mobility: Clamber is a welcome addition. Thruster and the abilities (charge, pound, slide, hover) are all interesting and I think actually increase the skill gap, It actually eliminates bunny hopping and makes the thruster more important than jumping for the first time in a Halo game. Sprint is here to stay in modern FPS for better or worse.
- Gunplay: AR did feel like it had a slightly too long range, but it's nice that pistol, SMG, AR can actually win in a close quarters fight with BR and dominate DMR close up. I never felt completely outgunned but my favorite combo was BR/SMG. Everything felt good and the lowered auto-aim is really welcome change.
-Fast weapon respawns: never felt like I couldn't get to a DMR/BR/SMG
-Teammate auto-callouts: great for playing solo. "got a multi-kill" "sniper rifle is ours" are very helpful and even the "thanks for the assist" is a nice touch. Maybe have it toggle on/off for those it annoys, but I loved it.
-Radar: the radar seems a fair distance (not too far like Halo 4, not too close like Halo 2) and the up/down indicators return. Could maybe see the "same team" colors change from a pale blue to something clearer.
-Shield recharge: The sprint penalty is fantastic, great balance. It also has clear indicator line for when your shield will recharge and if you are stable enough for it to do so. Very balanced.
-The Maps: Empire is an excellent map and reminiscent of The Pit and Haven to me. Felt very balanced and the sight lines are fair and challenging. Truth(midship) is amazing as always. Feels a little bigger to me, but that may be to counter the sprint/thrust.
-Thank you for no load outs of abilities, perks or special weapons, level playing field is huge for Halo.
-This felt like Halo 1/2/3 evolved for next gen to me, I would say more so than Halo 4 even. That's a gigantic compliment.

Undecided
-Kill Cam: they didn't feel quite polished. sometimes would show me the right person who killed me, sometimes was super laggy, sometimes showed them missing, sometimes did nothing. I don't mind Kill cams being in the game if done correctly (which to me is show them leading up to your kill and then stop at the kill, no insight into what they do next)
-Grenades: The plasma seemed to take forever to explode and came out at a different angle than I'm familiar with. The lack of a grenade indicator is nice though as it makes dodging grenades much more difficult. Also, hurray 2 grenades per type only.
-Prophet's Bane: Legendary weapons seem cool, but super speed is a definite power weapon. I just hope these aren't standard or can be removed for competitive for a regular version.
-Ground Pound: Fun, but kind of wonky to control. Maybe just needs a lot more practice. It's an excellent incentive to take higher ground though.

Dislike
-Sniper Zoom: first zoom in takes too long, not sure if this is to combat twitch zoom or what, but felt very delayed and second zoom(10x) felt instant.
-Frag Grenade Bounce: seemed extra bouncy to me after playing month of MCC, especially off stairs/ramps
-DMR ADS seems a bit bulky, but fired well.
-The beta is over for a whole week. :(
 
Same situation i have a feeling im more Silver 3 or Gold 1~2 level but
didn't take those placement matches seriously so ended up with Bronze 1 :'(.

Still im surprised a game i played mediocre i went up 85 points and the game im doing my A game i go up 10~15 points..
Gonna miss the early access, can't wait for the MCC beta do.

Personal performance doesn't affect how much it goes up. Only the ranks of the other team. If you win against much higher ranks, you go up faster.

Looks like someone else took down his shields and he got a lucky shot off to the head on that last shot lol. Pretty much spray and pray.
 
So what is the consensus on the AR? I think it should be nerfed just a tad, this is perhaps because I am not used to it being a such a viable weapon and it just feels weird to die from it so much. I don’t know just feels like it is too easy to use especially in these smaller maps.

Too effective at range, imo.
 
After watching the sprint and seeing that speed ball style map and showing all the assets they have to use seems like a map that could be randomly generated to keep it fresh?

Probably should lose some range, but overall it fits nicely in the sandbox.

Yeah I remember this. We've heard a lot about the arena focus and whatnot. What about the true differentiatior of Halo from all other FPS' out there and that is its vehicle based gameplay?

It could work as long as its on dedicated servers and if we are GUARANTEED to be playing in our regions.

If they are going to do it without some sort of region filtering, then it will be unplayable for anyone not in the US.

Well with the beta being 7 maps I would assume the "new" mode would be a part of it. Its amazing to me that the Beta of a game 11 months from launch has 7 maps in it and Halo Reach as a retail product shipped with only 8 maps.

Last I heard this beta is all Arena 4v4 based. :(

Aah that makes sense, It was a team with 2 onyx, 1 gold and bronze player and we were all bronze :p
I thought maybe going up in SR had something to do with it like some bonus rating..

I looked at the clip in slow motion and didn't find anything obvious. It could be that the hit markers are just showing up after the bullet make contact.

With so little aim assist I thought they would offset that with bullet magnetism like H4 had.

As I said, I've played Halo for the past 12 years, I know what I like and what I don't. I know I hate ADS, sprint, the removal of crouch jumping, and everything else I mentioned. Everyone is gonna give their feedback on the beta (that's what it's for, after all) and as much as you may enjoy it, not all of it is gonna be positive.
 
yeah that too, feels weird to have such a tight grouping when zoomed.

I think they could just tweak it so you have to burst fire more to keep that grouping and it'd be fine. It should be more powerful than recent games, but may be a bit much currently.
 
After playing the beta this weekend, I'm more eager to get back into that and play, then play any of the games in the MCC online. Really enjoyed my time with it, with a few tweaks, it has the chance to be great.
 
I love the idea of the map remixes. Not too much extra workload but gives us all something that mixes it up enough to not get bored of each map.

Crouch jumping was removed? News to me.

I'm pretty sure crouch jumping is still in.
