Destiny Nearing 13 Million Players, 500+ People Working on the Game Right Now

Championed it? I defended it before the OT was out, plenty of others did as well. I had a blind trust in Bungie and honestly people were jumping to conclusions before the final product was out. But then the game came out and admittedly it was a total grind fest. I stopped playing within the month.

Woof knows this already, but ditto here.

I was the number 1 poster in the OT's 3 or 4 times in a row, I was hyped as fuck for it. Bungie let me down.

Sold in under two months.

There is literally a thread about destiny helping a guys sheep schedule because he wakes up at 9 to play dailies and it drains him to much to okay other games. Shit is disgusting addiction design garbage made to prey on a very specific type of person
I'm sure you could find someone doing crazy things like that for every game ever.
Probably even one of those you love. And play casually with no addiction whatsoever.

I'd argue that COD is better

CoD4 was a legitimately great game that tried new things at the time, it wasn't until the rehashed sequels and it's success homogenizing countless other games that people starting getting annoyed with it and AAA gaming in general. Destiny just felt dull, lifeless and disappointing from the very outset, it's the definition of a game designed by a committee. It felt like a game designed primarily for a massive marketing blitz, Activision needed to spend big so the suits got a checklist and started ticking boxes.

500 people and they could barely deliver any content. Destiny 2 better be freaking huge.

Destiny in a nutshell.

No surprises there, I know people here love to call it Bungie's biggest blunder, and it may be quality-wise to some individuals, but the sales, active players, and GOTY awards show it's doing pretty well for them.

I traded my copy of the PS4 version of Destiny with my buddy for the PS3 version of Dishonored. I feel bad for screwing him over.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

also those poor people. That game was soul crushing and the day I stopped playing I was happier.

Damn you're serious???

I thought you were one of the most active guys in the Official Thread.

Bungie has a problem if even dedicated players like you feel the game is soul crushing.

I quit the game about a month ago too. And I made the mistake of buying the Guardian edition...I just don't have the strengh to keep playing anymore.

Most of the changes Bungie implemented affected negatively the way I used to play.

Making the weekly challenges harder for solo players made me quit the game.

Uhhh, 500 people seriously wtf. How many people making Witcher 3?

Whats sad is that such a big team is producing so little content

I would be questioning my investment if the game wasn't as popular as it is

Lets hope that some serious changes are in the works..... I remain skeptical since success leads to hubris and complacency

The game isn't even that old. Even if those numbers were deceptive by all counts Destiny should have millions of active players.

I questioned it being called Game of the Year by some individuals but if this many people tolerate it then it has enough appeal to be recognized as such. Good job Bungie.

The bubble will burst at some point guys

Especially if Bungie continues to drip content at the current pace vs price

Who cares if the bubble bursts. Games this popular don't decline quickly. You would have to wait for Nintendo's new console to come out before we could start considering this game's audience becoming a shadow of its former self.

I was pretty active during the first month, then somewhat active a bit later then I basically left once Shadows of Mordor came out. Everybody I cared about is long gone at this point from the OT's lol

It really is an eye opener on Bungie that they aren't this 'do no wrong' developer

You'd have to imagine that one of those five hundred plus people would understand how to do loot right, or at least how to copy it from a game that does

You knew what you were getting into coming here.

I admit I had unreasonable expectations to discuss Destiny in the general gaming forum. It is now reserved for Destiny hate, Bungie hate, and spewing disrespecting and downright offensive crap to the people that still play it.

But again, it is mod sanctioned so enjoy your privileges.

Let's say "working on its sequel", with some juniors recycling content for the DLCs.

Sorry Bungie, but I'll be wary when Destiny2 comes out.
The game is solid, but for the scope and budget+team that have been working on it, it should have been 10x

Oh, I'm still playing by the way.
You can both enjoy/play a game and clearly see its flaws.

500+ people crunching hard in order to try and come up with new ways that you can guard Dinklebot from waves of enemies. That and more bullet sponge bosses that you can grind away at over and over again at a snails pace.

Explain how this concept doesn't apply to video games in general. At the end of the day you're in one spot pressing buttons.

Damn, you seem bitter about this. Does people talking bad about Destiny hurt you that much?

Is it the sad realization that some of the points being brought up about Destiny's similarity to gambling addictions might not be too far off the mark?

I mean, I would make the same argument for Diablo, and I love the shit out of that series.

Edit: There is just as much, if not more so, hyperbole coming from the "I like Destiny" crowd with "haters gonna hate" and "lol u jelly" style posts that just exist to ignore any and all criticism that gets thrown at Destiny as just trolls and haters.

Can't tell if I still play Destiny because I enjoy it or enjoy coming on gaf to see poeple get upset when anything remotely positive about Destiny is mentioned.

Who am I kidding, both.

They should fire over half the people and get like 2-5 decent writers. It will save them money and it will save us a headache from horrible written dialog.

You would be displeased too if you couldn't discuss a game you're playing neither, if you had every thread about it turn to crap by driveby trolls and shitposting while the mods looked the other way.

My issue is that I'm seeing genuine skepticism and criticism being thrown at the game, and all you're doing is labeling the whole lot of it "drivebys and shit posting", then passive-aggressively insulting the mods for not dealing with this grave injustice.

A statement saying 13 million "sold copies" would earn a lot more respect from me than saying 13 million "players", for a game that can be resold and traded at will.

I see just as many driveby "haters gonna hate" posts with just as little if not less substance than those who are trying to explain why Destiny is not, at all, a good game.

You can like a bad game all you want. There are people who like bad food. Like bad movies. There is nothing wrong with them, they just have different tastes.

But DENYING that Destiny is a game designed to exploit it's players and hook them in ways that resemble gambling addiction is just lying to yourself, and only serves to make the addiction stronger. I've lived through WoW. This isn't a new concept.

People can discuss how they feel about destiny as this is a discussion board. It's the dumb comparisons to harmful addictions that's off-putting. Would you enjoy being ridiculed for what you enjoy?

I enjoy Destiny

Why?

I think the worlds look amazing
I think the sound design is amazing
I think the UI design is amazing
I think for being always online, the game has been technically very sound

Why?

I enjoy playing co –op games more than anything else
I love playing with close friends and family as a way to spend time together
Since launch I have met some really great guys who I now play with regularly

Why?

As a shooter fan, I think Destiny’s sandbox is the best shooter mechanics I have ever played
Combat and AI is fun, unpredictable, dynamic

Why?

With 23 x 15 minute missions, 8 x 25 minute strikes, 2 x 1-2 hour raids, 13 multiplayer maps, 4 x planets to free roam, I find there is plenty of content for me a my friends to do something different every night for an hour or two.
We used to run the same 2 or three choice missions from whichever shooter was game of the moment for months on end (Gears / Halo / COD), there is more repeatable co-op content in Destiny than any of those games.

Why?

I enjoy always having something to level up, some bounty to challenge me to play differently, targets to try and achieve. Older co-op games have a high score / time to beat, Destiny has that, but also other purposes for running that mission again with your friends
I enjoy how the game can be both casual and extremely challenging, shooting the shit with your friends while roaming the moon, picking up bounties, is completely different to a nightfall strike or a hard raid run

Why?

I have had more fun in this game, than any other for years

Why?

I am posting on GAF with a positive impression of Destiny

Why?

I don't get it.

The game is average at best, i loved the Alpha when my imagination ran wild and i thought that version was just a very very small fraction of what Bungie had in store in the full release. The feeling i got when i realised it was basically the whole game :/

Sure there are a couple more planets but you do exactly the same stuff and face the same mission type in every one of them.

It's such a short, shallow game and people can't get away, why.jpegx10000000000000

This game is such a mistery for me, and no i don't think the mechanics are that great either. Most guns feel the same.

I honestly would like to know how many people are actively paying to play Destiny, when Warframe is sitting in their online store free to play and offering more content to boot and they have no idea what Warframe is.

A universal LFG utility for all aspects of the game would get me back,

The fact that it is OT13 here an a vast majoirty of those threads are just posts about forming groups show that I am not the only one who wants this lol.

I want to log in click a button and shoot shit with people (the game as a solo player sucks ass but is crazy fun in groups). I do not want to go to DestinyLFG.net and post to then jump through hoops to make a freaking group that will fall apart half the time

The story is probably beyond saving at this point

Oh god the Warframe argument. Look most of us have played both and warframe fucking sucks.

You don't like Destiny, we don't like Warframe and that's ok.

These hate threads on GAF are bizarre as hell.

The mechanics are solid for the most part...the handling feels rewarding and arcady in a sense.....easy to pick up on the go. Kind of like COD. I would argue Destiny's accessibility rivals COD. I say this as someone who played both the Alpha and BETA and didn't pick up the full-game (decided for Shadow of Mordor instead)....YET...

I don't know why. Better games with those things are releasing constantly.

It doesn't matter how many people are working on the game if nobody is going to speak up about the extremely dumb decisions the people on top are making. It's just 500+ people making a bad game.

Some people like the gameplay loop. That is all you need to get somebody to continue to play the game. I am one of those people and still play it almost every day. I don't see why people drink or use marijuana, but I am not going to ask "why". People like different things.

Warframe's grind is worse.

I used to be warlord of the NeoGAF warframe clan.

Just to start, in Warframe you have to grind to get the keys to grind. And the keys are one use. Warframe AI is terribad, in Warframe snipers rush you to the point you can melee them. Warframe is also a great flawed game, just like Destiny.
