Well deserved.
Weekly Destiny Two Minutes Hate
No, you are comparing this specific game to an addiction, all the while casting it under a negative light.I try to have a reasonable discussion on the design of Destiny and it's appeal to exploit human tendencies for maximum profit, and I get in response passive-aggressive showmanship and sarcasm.
Logic dictates that DA:I was made by 5000 people then.
People will play pretty much anything with friends. The marketing did a great job of convincing people this was the one they should be spending their time on.Rather, state that the game is so bad that the only reason people play it is because it's crack heroin in pixel form. Much safer.
I don't understand what makes Destiny any different then any other game?
Games are designed to make you want to play more.
How is grinding for the best loot any different then grinding Stars in Mario? Or grinding monster rank in Monster hunter? Or trying to collect them all. This is what video games do.
Sorry if I offended you but your insinuating that I am playing this game not realizing I'm not having fun and it's just my addicting personality that is keeping me playing and it's simply not true.
Also, I saw you edit out your post where you were comparing Destiny to a physical drug. Shows how much your line of thought is skewed.
This can be said for anything in life, not just video games. And it can apply to any type of video game. I've seen this forced addiction talk used more for Destiny than any other game, and I find it bizarre. That's a pretty lame way to try to explain people liking things you don't like.But.
There is going to come a point where the fun stops and the addiction begins. But where you would think that's obviously when people would stop playing, many won't.
That's the addiction.
Stop trying to spin this as anything else.
But.

In the last hate thread someone posted a line just like that and got banned... tread carefully.

Just to be clear, none of those 500 people are writers, correct?

All I am saying, with no hidding meanings or statements to be inferred, is that you are having fun right now. Genuine, real, actual fun. But at some point there will be a line, who knows where it will be for you, that the fun becomes addiction, and either you escape it's grasp or you dig in deeper. And while that is partially a failing of the player itself, Destiny is designed in such a way to make sure the player realizes that as late as possible, if never. They do not want you to break out.
Games are designed for you to enjoy the ride. For some that ride might be longer than others, but it will come to an end eventually.
Destiny is trying to be the ride that never end. It's going to do everything in it's power to keep you in that seat. There is nothing wrong with that in theory, but the way Destiny goes about it harms what could have been a much better game.
It's a hard thing to explain because people only tend to understand it once they're sitting on the other side of it.
Remember, your the Hero and you make your own story within the Destiny universe.
Reality: standing with 5 guys in front of a cave shooting endless hives for engrams.
They just promised so much and didnt deliver the goods.
But we can only blame ourselves for pre ordering instead of waiting.
The posts basically calling people battered spouses and drug addicts for enjoying a video game are worse than what I posted.
I think you should quit this pseudo-psychological determination before you make yourself look less intelligent.

Best co-op experience of any game I've ever played. Best online community by far of any game I've played. Most people I end up playing with are intelligent, kind, and helpful. I've made a lot of friends in Destiny.
It's got a lot of problems, but for me the positives far outweigh the bad. I understand people not liking it. But I don't know why people are still so insistent to shit on the people who like it. Telling people they're not having fun? I've never seen a game elicit this kind of response so this long after release.[/QUOTE]
So I am going to throw out a wild guess you are with not that into games or very young. Glad you like Destiny, but IMO it was a ho hum game that has major design and content flaws. Luckily there was enough marketing behind it to sell a crap ton of copies and give Bungie a 2nd try...lets hope next time they deliver.
Nah, I'm going to quit because no matter what I do or say, people will take my argument as "You are saying people who play Destiny are as bad as crack addicts? They ruin families!"
It's not like I'm even going in the OT to complain about it there. They're obviously enjoying it, why should I rain on their parade?
Almost 13 million people--12,869,066 to be exact--have played

My wishful hope is that much of potential of what Destiny could be will be fulfilled in the sequel.
In the meantime, I am enjoying playing this daily with my brother, cousin, and others from GAF. The game is by no means perfect, but to treat it like it is the worst thing ever is hyperbole. The story is lackluster, but the gunplay is so much fun. Playing this game is not an addiction. I play it because I enjoy it and enjoy playing with others. Is that so wrong?

It's a hard thing to explain because people only tend to understand it once they're sitting on the other side of it. And I don't mean that in an insulting way at all. It's just one of those things people genuinely don't grasp.
Actually I edited that out because I knew people would just jump to an emotional response about "REAL DRUG ADDICTS ARE SUFFERING" in order to downplay the comparison. I actually stand by the idea that crack is, while much more damaging with more severe consequences, an apt comparison to the "concept" of addiction.

Your argument is a blanket argument that hinges on you predicting the future. It's illogical.
In Mario, they don't move the goalposts. You beat the game and it's done.
Is that not the same for the 'single player' in Destiny? In Mario, they don't move the goalposts. You beat the game and it's done.
What else did you expect from new content? In Mario, they don't move the goalposts. You beat the game and it's done.
You wonder why people shit on Destiny all the time when this is the kind of attitude I get from people.

me!In fact, I can't think of any iconic annoying Destiny supporter.
480 people on the sequel and 20 on the current game, if the Dark Below is any indication.
Eh, that's me to a T. I never thought I'd meet enough players to do the raid when I first started playing, but I did, and I've had a great time with co-op. The fact that Bungie made a satisfying shooter in spite of them shitting their bed repeatedly is a small miracle.
Also, judging from the recent threads, It seems nobody has moved on. People are either still playing it, or shitting on it.
Minus the 2 Go we had to download a few weeks before it dropped...20 people? The DLC already on the disc.
Some of you guys need to realize its both possible to like Destiny overall and still have MAJOR problems with it.
Its my 2nd favorite game this year and I played the hell out of it up until the piece of shit "expansion" The Dark Below is.
Destiny has the best shooting mechanics / gameplay Ive played in a long time but the sheer lack of content, Bungie flat out lying on multitudes of times, and overall level up / loot mechanics are worth the criticism the game is receiving.
My only hope is Bungie takes this stuff to heart and delivers a great sequel.
Haven't played the final game but from what I've seen its boring, repetitive and way too grindy and 'random'.
500 people just means more problems.
FTFYIt's a shame that Destiny is entering a similar space to CoD; it's massively successful, but it's not actually all that good or interesting in my opinion.
2. What you're explaining is what makes Candy Crush Saga so toxic. Destiny has none of that. You buy the game and everything else you do is free within the game. There is no way to cheat or jump ahead with real money. All players are playing by the same rules.
Next time explain it then.So the fact that the first expansion is essentially drip feeding the players barely any content, for $20, is not trying to exploit them?
No, Destiny is not the first or only game to do this.
No, it does not make it okay for Destiny to do.
No, it does not have to be an exact 1:1 comparison to a more pure form of exploitation to still be exploitation.
Either way, I'm out. Have fun with the game. And I mean that genuinely. Games are meant to be fun. If you have fun, good on you. Just don't immediately dismiss the idea that maybe, parts of this game were designed with greed, and only greed, in mind, and to some people that is enough of a negative to not justify the good parts.
