That is on a state by state basis. Not in NYC can you do that legally without the authorization of the NYPD Licensing Division.

Hey all, with all this talk about guns I was wondering what the difference between an automatic gun and a semi automatic gun is?

I live in the UK so my only exposure to guns is police guarding airports and parliament.

I've played a few games where there are guns that shoot three bullets at once, would that be automatic?

A semi automatic fires one round per trigger pull like the OP's handgun.

A full automatic shots more than one round and if you hold the trigger it will keep shooting. I believe by law if it fires more than one round it is classified as an automatic. It might depend on where you live though.

With an automatic, you hold down the trigger and it fires bullets till the magazine is empty. With a semi auto you fire one bullet with each pull of the trigger. Not sure where the three bullets per trigger pull falls though.

Automatics are ridiculously hard to get in the us by the way.

Did he even do a background check or something? He could've handed that gun to a convicted felon.

I say you learn how to use that gun fast cuz the feds are going to be on your door like white on rice.

Where are you getting the more guns in the US than people thing? There are over 300,000,000 people in the US, about half own guns, the average gun owner owns two guns. At least whenever I've read about it, that's what I've seen.

Semi automatic means you have to pull the trigger each time to shoot a bullet.

Automatic means you can hold down the trigger and shoot continuously.

Uh, like all legal permits, you need to be given one. Scribbling your name and Obama's signature on a napkin in lieu of one is generally frowned upon.

As long as everything's on the up and up, congrats, the glock is a great gun. Go to a range and learn how to use it. Handguns can be pretty difficult to get good with.

Yes, those people have Federal licenses for those weapons.

Most Uzis are semi-auto that the public can buy, however, if you have the right permits and willing to pay taxes, you can buy a full auto one. The only limiting factor would be if your local municipality allows you to own one. A lot of Urban areas prohibit them, but most rural and suburban areas allow them.

My point was that I'm shocked that the guy just printed him off a permit instead of requiring him to take firearm safety classes.

I'm not arguing that getting a gun in the US isn't easy. Even in NY (outside of NYC) it's easy to get a long gun. I was simply under the assumption we were discussing the ease of LEGALLY obtaining firearms.

I've been seeing this a lot lately. Race refers to inherited physical traits combined with languages and cultures. There are certainly races of people. Do the people that say this mean species?
