Think they are perfectly legal in the vast majority of places. Not that people should have a handgun or home defense, but, hollow points would be better for that unlikely job as they don't pierce through walls as easily as full metal rounds.

In all seriousness if I were in your shoes: I'm assuming from the post first time gun owner that's curious.

I'd do the following:
-Check your local laws to confirm if what you just did was legal. Is it legal where you live to receive a firearm like that.

-Ask yourself: Do you have the temperament to own a gun responsibly? Are you quick to anger? To you often do things in the heat of anger that you normally wouldn't do when calm and often regret afterwards? Do you suffer from any thoughts of suicide? If so, in all honesty: Sell the gun and make some money and don't own one.

-Memorize the FOUR rules of Firearm Safety: This is your Bible. It is Holy. You do NOT ever deviate from this. If you do, you or someone will die. Never forget this.

-Read some tutorial articles and watch some videos to know HOW to unload the firearm correctly.

-Unload the firearm correctly.

-Go to a RANGE and pay for a newbie safety course to learn how to fire your weapon correctly.

-Get a lockbox/safe and a trigger lock. Use it.

-Enjoy and welcome! Owning guns is awesome but a pretty significant responsibility.

The instructor has to send in your information to florida agriculture department. That site I linked has a list of everything you must turn in for it. DO NOT carry in on your person unless it's in a case. Florida penalties towards gun violations are harsh as fuck.

I went through this whole thread just to make sure this was cleared up.

OP, you probably should take that safety course anyways. I went through it to get my concealed license and actually found it pretty fun. I was raised around guns so I already knew the do's and don'ts but we all got to test out a variety of guns after the class for free which was cool.

Also, I'd recommend just sitting down and reading up on all things gun related: gun care, gun laws, gun mechanics etc etc. You really can't be over-educated when it comes to this.

This is incorrect. They're banned for use in warfare by the Hague Conventions (admittedly in a declaration the U.S. did not ratify) but they are not not banned for use in private or law enforcement situations.
