LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Down for me as well (US). This really stinks for those kids who received an Xbox One for Christmas and can't even update it.

Some of you guys need to contemplate what the first 'D' in DDoS means.

Distributed.

It means there is a host of compromised devices, distributed logically and physically, so that you can't simply "monitor incoming traffic".

They are attacking the public facing access points to the network. Shutting these access points down is shutting your network down. If the compromised machines can't access the network, neither can your users.

There isn't an easy fix here, and frankly, there isn't a lot you can do if someone has the resources and the will to carry out such an attack.

Just got dropped off the NBA app. Was watching the Christmas day games. No other way to watch them. Thanks Lizard Squad.

Kinda is for requiring an update to even use the box.

Isn't there something better to do than take down gaming services? What exactly is the point of this. Lets stop people from playing multiplayer? Let's make MS lose money?

You cant prevent it, its one of the flaws of the internet, and if you were to remove/fix this flaw, than the internet couldnt be the internet........(if that makes sense)

Yeah, can't play my games for a few hours so let's shoot some kids for being assholes. You're crazy buddy.

No, you're too forgiving.

To put this into perspective, I'm not upset because I can't play my games. I'm upset that some criminals are:

1) Ruining Christmas for thousands (in fact, possibly millions) of innocent people - a mixture of kids, parents, friends. This is being done for personal amusement and glory.
2) Ruining Christmas for a large number of network and system admin who are going to be firefighting this at the moment. I've been there, I know what it's like, do you know what it's like to explain at the end of a 17 hour shift to the higher ups that there's not much you can immediately do? It fucking sucks.

Why would you even give a shit what happens to them? There are people in life who don't deserve consideration, sympathy, leniency or a second chance. Blast them into orbit, the world will thank you.

Didnt someone leak the names of these assholes? I thought they would have been arrested after that no?

If they keep poking like this, I can see some crazy people taking matters into their own hands. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

So neither network has a different range of ip's to use when this happens?

If you make those new IPs available to the public (and you obviously have to if you want consoles to connect) then how do you stop the attacker from simply hitting the new IPs?

There are several other logistical issues as well.

Fucking assholes. They should be locked up.

And I really don't get why they're targeting game services, they are not getting any sympathy from anyone with this bullshit.

I hope it does, these guys deserves something horrible to happen to them.

Yeah, maybe. I'm pretty forgiving in general, but it's hard to have a lick of sympathy for these guys. I feel for their parents more than anything. They're probably the only ones that would be saddened if something happens to them.

Wow, they pulled it off. They pre-announced this attack and everything.

How many people are out their dealing with their kids and have no idea this is a hack? They just think that MS is inept or something.

If the lizards find out I fear they'll take it down.

Didn't the Lizards tell the people to buy a Wii U, because Nintendo isn't charging for its online service?
Isn't paid online multiplayer the whole reason for the attacks on Sony/MS? Or am I confusing the L-Squad with someone else?

They do it because they see it as being funny.

Basically a botnet, but how long does it take to block these compromised ips, or is there no way of telling which ips are pinging them out of the ordinary?

Wow, they pulled it off. They definitely succeeded in pissing off people online and in this thread. Weird how online terrorism is working pretty well in 2014.

Of course they pulled it off, they posted the IPs to attack last night (out of desperation imo). So even if the LizardSquad members were unable to do it, plenty of other losers would be able to because all they have to do it copy and post the IP into a DDOS attack website and away they go.....

Its probably the biggest DDoS attack ever tbh....

My brother got an Xbox One for Christmas and can't update the damn thing. Fuck these guys! He was super happy to get playing.
