We shouldn't give these people any attention. That's what they want. The companies they're attacking need our support. It sounds like we're at each other's necks over what they're doing.

How do we know they aren't 30-something neck-beards with technical smarts and way too much time on their hands(or, to counter this, sexy, hot hackers as seen in many Hollywood depictions, which hey, I think the possiblity of having attractive assholes hacking their way and spreading chaos everywhere is not out of the question)? You could use your skills for good, or evil. You be the judge.

I don't get your entitlement line either. You're saying that anyone who says they should go to jail are also feeling a sense of entitlement? In what fucked up world does this constitute any level of hypocrisy?

If someone goes and smashes all the windows out of a 7-11, is your first reaction to tell the guy who can't buy a slurpee to stop feeling so entitled?

I'm an adult, so I admit I'm mildly bummed and inconvenienced. The thing that makes me angry though is these asshats literally ruined Christmas probably for millions of kids. I mean I'm pretty sure both the Xbox One and PS4 require a day one update in order to play.

So yeah, I was kind of bummed because PSN is down and I got Alien Isolation for Christmas. I wasn't able to download the Nostromo DLC mission that came with it. Hoping I don't have to restart the game once PSN is back up. Thank god you can play Dragon Age Inquisition without being able to get on the servers. This is why always online is a bad idea.

@OT - pretty terrible that they did this - hopefully it'll be up. I would be pissed too if I was planning to play some online games with friends on PSN/XboxLive.

Thankfully Nintendo's servers werent affected.....l0l

PS4 does not require an update to play disc-based games. Xbox One does.

I'm in the woods so I can't play my games online anyway. I really hope these guys get caught soon. Not because I've been inconvenienced but more because I don't like the idea of them thinking they're master cybercriminals or something.
 
Sucks that this is the first impression my family is getting of gaming lol. Oh well I will just have to try late at night when they go to bed. Hopefully it works and I can grab a few demos for everyone.
 
Does anyone have any tips or help for me? During the downtime I tried to play some games I got from GWG and it said that I needed to go into the settings while connected to Live and make this Xbone my 'Home Xbox.' It wouldn't let me play those games. I am connected now and in my settings and see no such option. I did see someone on another site while googling say that GWG games (that is, games you obtained through GWG) are not playable offline. Surely that isn't true is it?

Agreed. I've owned my PS4 for almost a year. This is the third time I haven't been able to game online. I don't think that's a bad ratio at all.

Yeah, I'm getting real tired of seeing people writing this off as "kid's being kid's" or "lolvideogames" type shit. These fucking pieces of shit, and that's what they are, need mudholes stomped in their asses. There are plenty of non-asshole kid's out there, including a few I know, having their Christmas holidays fucked over because of these waste of life script kiddies. If this wasn't an online service, and was a bunch of clowns stopping people from doing something they liked out in the "real world" they'd already be in jail or have their asses kicked. But no, because they can hide in their bedrooms and ruin peoples days, they get idiots defending them as "not serious" or "no big deal". Fuck that, what they are doing is illegal and they deserve to be in jail, or at the very least get suspended sentences contingent on not being allowed to use a computer.
