LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Why are both networks so susceptible to these attacks?...

If I understand the 2013 Blackhat presentation correctly (Lessons from Surviving a 300Gbps Denial of Service Attack) then no site is safe until a) all botnets disappear and b) special server configurations disappear.

Not that I'm affected, but I fail to see their point. If they had at least a course, but they are just a bunch of douches.

I mean do they truly feel so much better when they ruin Christmas holidays for million of peoples? True saints...

Does anyone have any tips or help for me? During the downtime I tried to play some games I got from GWG and it said that I needed to go into the settings while connected to Live and make this Xbone my 'Home Xbox.' It wouldn't let me play those games. I am connected now and in my settings and see no such option. I did see someone on another site while googling say that GWG games (that is, games you obtained through GWG) are not playable offline. Surely that isn't true is it?

I just loaded Worms and it let me play. My Home Xbox was already set though.

The option for that is at the bottom left corner of the settings screen

Yes, holidays... not one over the other, which seemed to be the implication.

No today is Christmas my friend. The season is the holiday season.
I will wish you a Happy Birthday on the anniversary of your birth. That day will always be YOUR birthday and we all respect that.
My calendar says today is known as Christmas Day. So today and around this day I wish people a Merry Christmas.
I'm gonna say "Happy New Year" to people right around the end of the year too. Regardless of what Fox News tells me to do.

The 25th of December is very well known as Christmas Day. There are zero implications or obligations that you or anyone else on this planet need to agree with or even understand the religious attachment that some people have with this day. The day is called what it is called.
I do not know much about the traditions that accompany Hanukkah. But I promise you that I wish everyone I know that does celebrate Hanukkah a very "Happy Hanukkah". The best part is when they smile and say thanks.
It's increible how such a small gesture can bring a smile to someone else's face.

So... Merry Christmas my friend. Happy Holidays to you. And I wish you a very Happy New Year as well. May your days be filled with reasons to smile and opportunities to bring happiness to others.

Now these Lizard dudes that won't let me play Destiny... I'm not wishing them a Happy anything. Haha

Sounds like the same BS on par with the 9/11 truthers and the moon landing hoaxers.

Why do people always cry out "Conspiracy!" when incompetence and/or general stupidity is a far more plausible answer?

So, is it going to take Netflix, Hulu and Amazon streaming video for people to realize owning content that I can throw in my machine whenever I want is preferrable to only accessing something online only?

Well at least I have my blu rays, they all laughed at me for buying plastic circles! But who's laughing now! Its still shocking how crippled and useless these boxes become without their respective networks. YouTube and Netflix should work regardless if XBL/PSN are down.

I don't care what you believe, just don't push it on people. If it was a joke, oops, my obvious overreaction.

"You can always start" is pushy. Wow. Some people are super sensitive.

BTW, if you don't believe in Christmas as a religious holiday then just think of it as tradition, like celebrating the Super Bowl. In any event, if you don't believe in Christmas then you probably know that it originated as a pagan ritual anyway. It really doesn't have to mean anything more than as excuse to buy gifts and enjoy the wonder of being a child again.

Anyone can do some trivial research on how DDOS attacks work and see that there's no conspiracy necessary to explain the outages.

Probably because it seems to be the way religion works.

Nobody cares about your goddamn vendetta about religion and Christmas. Nobody cares. Nobody. Cares.

Shockingly, a surprising number of people seem to be able to celebrate a holiday despite not believing in it literally. They can even mention that holiday by name. Get a goddamn grip.

Master Chief Collection continued telling me that I could not play multiplayer until my privileges were checked so I restarted the console from the options menu and now I can't connect to Live again. Just booted up Guacamelee again and it started to load before giving me this message:
For this game, you need to be online
If you're on this Xbox regularly, make it your home Xbox to enable off-line play for games you own. The next time you're online, go to Settings > My home Xbox (0x87de2727)
Thing is, I didn't see that option anywhere in the settings. Checked every menu and option for it. My account is the only one that has been on this Xbox, so I don't see how it couldn't already be my Home Xbox. Something is up though.

You know what is weird? Many non-religious/atheist people celebrate "Christmas", just not for religious reasons... it's more like a tradition. The guy also wasn't "pushy".

A shit apology if this was one.

You know. In my old company they used to get Microsoft consultants to do assessments on the security and infrastructure.

They were pretty good at their jobs. Nice guys too.

You forgot to add "I don't care if I get banned, f*%& you" to the beginning of your comment.

In other news, wouldn't be surprised if FS and LS were the same people, and getting a real kick out of everyone bowing down to them on twitter. Crazy stuff.

I don't celebrate Christmas, ya see what I mean... it is a default state.

Yeah but you see a lot of people don't celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus Christ, they celebrate it for family and friends or other reasons and leave the teen angst out of it.

Infact I'd wager that even the majority of people celebrating Christmas today are not religious, at least in the UK, Christianity isn't the behemoth it was several hundred years ago.

You don't have to be religious to spend one day a year being nice or nicer than usual to each other.

I'm not religious in the slightest, I celebrate Christmas as the day I spend with my family having a nice time with good food, I'm not going to get offended if someone says "Happy Christmas" to me.

Strange reaction, each to their own I guess.

Wonder why they haven't targeted Steam this time? Wouldn't be surprised if Finest are the same people or working with them for the "fame" either.

Finally after an entire day entertaining my family I get to sit down, unzip by pants and play some PS4 and I find out the PSN is down.

Thanks Lizard Squad. I hope you smug little plebs have filled that gaping hole in your sad pathetic lives by causing misery to thousands of others. It's got to the point now that I'm beginning to pity them. What a detestable life they must have if this is the way they choose to express themselves.

On a more positive note I did get a Megadrive with half a dozen games off my wife so a few hours of Toejam & Earl is on the cards. God I miss when gaming was so simple.

Merry Xmas all.

Well, it wasn't really an apology, so go fuck yourself.

Dude, I'm an atheist too, but you aren't giving us a good name today. As far as anyone can tell, people were just making light humor and you came in with all your "fuck you" serious business.

Not an athiest. I'm irreligious. Spiritualty matters.
