LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

yep, just think about. turn on the script and look at reactions online all day and respond on twitter. boring as fuck.

But in their pre-pubescent minds it's "Look at all the attention we're getting! People think we're super cool bro. This will show these corporations for what they did to...uh what'd they do again? Fuck it were so badass!"

Man these guys sure do a lot of boring things.

I've been thinking the same thing to set this up time effort and work behind the scenes... I mean... how much of an A-Hole do you have to be and what level of A-Holism do you have to reach in order want to put the time and effort it prolly took them to plan and do this just to piss off consumers... (serious question) I mean end game is they themselves couldn't play all day they wasted who knows how much on electricity.... and seriously for what? A bunch of people hating on there group...? Infamy? They can't release their real names or anything or brag properly about doing this shit just make references hiding behind some fakeass twitter account? I mean lets collectively decide to ignore them right now and they won't be shit but fleas on a dog's butt at the end of the day...

Has anyone moved from being angry at Lizard Squad, disappointed with Finest Squad, and annoyed with Sony?

I mean, how can they not withstand some botnet that a bunch of chavs spin up on your authentication servers? It's far on Sony's shoulders now and they SHOULD be embarrassed.

As been explained in this thread before, no one can prevent a full scale DDOS. Not even google.

And it's not just Sony affected - XBL has been down all day too.

Am I destined to engage trolls for the rest of the night?

and it does nothing for them IRL cuz if people find out who they are, they would be in trouble. so yea, it's a waste of time.

No, I guess you're just destined to be resigned to a low standard of quality for services you pay a premium for.

I can't think of the last time the authentication servers were down for Microsoft's enterprise volume licensing service center, for example.

So just got my new HDD in for my ps4 installed... Was hoping to reinstall my games so I could use my new a50s.. Can't sign on to my profile so no game installs.

Guess I can watch LoTR extendeds to give my new headset a whirl :/

Microsoft is in the same boat. Sucks man.

How many fucking times does this have to be explained!?

Don't tell me, you don't like how it controls? ;)

Its more than that. The world, characters, story, the fire and forget mission structure, the fact there is no restart mission ability, the controls

Playing it feels like playing with wet putty. I have mini anuerisms everytime I hit something while driving because you spin out of control and its a fucking chore to get from point A to B. I failed a mission 3 times because I hit something and the stupid trailer from my truck gets detached and I get failed for abandoning the trailer because it takes to long to re atach it.

eegh. I should just delete the game from my hard drive, Thinking about it is actually making me nauseous.

If you're on PS4 just sign out of PSN and play offline. Worked for me.

Sadly I couldn't play Forza Horizon 2 as it told me I had to sign into a profile, and I couldn't do so.

I had the same issue with Horizon 2 today. I got around it by going into the Bone's network setting and selecting the "go offline" option.

Most certainly did, but all they see is the reality of a Christmas horribly ruined for their kids. The toughest part of it was their kids calling me on their own using their parent's phone to ask for assistance in getting the system operational. I knew there was nothing that could fix it in that moment, but I didn't want to just dismiss their requests for help altogether and just hang up because they sounded way too damn excited, so I basically went along with the whole thing, taking them through some stuff while explaining to them in the simplest way possible what was actually taking place, and that it in no way meant their new xbox was somehow damaged.

Man that just sucks so much to read. Fuck these ppl for basically ruining Christmas for some of these kids.

Sure sounds like a priority target for DDoS attacks.

I haven't even stated which service, if any, I'm using.

All you've done is come in here and flash your ignorance on the topic.

You realize Live went down all day as well right?

If you want to start to go down that road you have to ask how Microsoft, Lord Of All Things Internet second only to Google with magic clouds all over the planet that keep everyone safe and happy they brag about constantly, could be vulnerable. Hell, having hit "Preview" for this post I already had a MS Cloud banner ad at the top of my screen. They have even fewer excuses. If you're going to start criticizing the companies (which is fair to a certain extent) at least be balanced about it.

...And did anyone ever think "Finest Squad" wasn't actually Lizard Squad in some form? Oh man, I'm sorry.

While I certainly don't want to be defending Sony here - their infrastructure is swiss cheese holy Gouda batman - but what looks to be a 400Gbps sized attack is not... insignificant. In 2012, LulzSec's largest attack was 160Gbps.

In 2011, the average size of a DDoS attack was 1.4Gbps. So any companies that put their DDoS mitigation in place back then with that as the average, is by now so woefully unprepared. I'd be curious what Sony's datacenters are rated to withstand, and by how much of a margin was it insufficient.

I do! Do you realize that is not okay? That it's preventable and that these types of auth servers CAN be secured against massive targeted denial of service? Because there are tons of vendors and corporations that can't afford to lose that kind of a battle?

The difference is that Microsoft and Sony won't lose any real money here, so they really just don't care. Things might or might not be back up tomorrow, but most of us here won't be returning any consoles since we already own them.

Apparently you do because of all of the people just blindly marching on with "but... there's nothing poor Microsoft and Sony can do! They explained it earlier in this thread!!!"
Great logic there. Shows some solid reasoning on your part. You really sound interested in actual discussion of this topic.

No, because I actually understand how a ddos works. It's the equivalent of being annoyed at the architects of your two car garage for not being able to suddenly accommodate 1,000 cars one afternoon because an asshole at work cc'd an email to everyone about your party just to be a dick...

It's not a matter of just "spinning up" millions of more blades to handle dummy logins.

Yep, poor architects are a problem from garages to IT solutions.

Hi, I'm not up to date on hacking terms and all that jazz.

I'm seeing that Finest Squad is posting personal info of Lizard Squad.
Awkward.

That being said; Who is actually to blame?
How many times have Microsoft/Sony had to deal with these attacks? How is there not something in place to prohibit this from happening?
Being a general consumer who has no idea how this is happening, am I wrong to expect that there would be things in place to block these attacks in 2014/2015?

Link me to a post explaining, if you don't mind.

Thanks!

I appreciate kimdotcom trying to help, but he's just set a horrifically bad precedent for gaming. Now we're going to have group after group attacking the services we use in hopes of being paid in some form to cease the attacks.

I'm confident Microsoft will quickly add the necessary measures, but I'm very concerned that Sony will lag behind.

Sitting here stuck at logging in on Far Cry 4 PS4. Guess it's back to Hyrule Warriors...

Edit: Errored out after like 10mins and I'm playing now.

I work at guest service tomorrow, the amount of consoles that get returned is gonna suck, hopefully I can tell them to hold off
But this whole thing has been pretty shitty

I take it you don't fully understand how this works...

The Feds haven't been able to track down the previous attacks. MS hasn't been able to stop these attacks either. They all need to hire better talent.

ddos CAN'T be prevented or protected against in the matter in which you are saying and both Sony and MS are losing money they didn't plan on losing the amount isn't the point. No company can truely prevent ddos attacks. Google is the closest company to come to having impentrable ddos shielding and even they are not without a history of being attacked.

This is the pinnacle of ignorance. Every single sentence... it is almost weirdly beautiful.

Are you implying that I should be disappointed in Sony, and that they should be embarrassed for using TCP protocol? And, by virtue of you not mentioning them, I am to excuse Microsoft for doing the same thing?

Could you possibly be such a troll?
