LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

I am glad you are finding this comical.

I'm not allowed to take holidays at Christmas as my job entails saving lives.
The hours I get to spend with my family at Christmas are precious to me. Some of my son's presents are gaming related. He has a bunch of PSN points he wants to spend on his FIFA game (amongst other things) and he wanted to do that with me in the relatively small amount of time we have together at Christmas.

Instead of coming on here and being amused and patronisingly telling people to read a book etc etc why don't you keep your self centred opinion to yourself and go and play on your rollerskates or whatever it is you do to maintain your air of self satisfied smugness.

I hope the little tosspots who perpetrated these attacks get to see the inside of a jail cell for Christmas next year.

I'm sorry if you think I'm being smug. I'm just trying to bring out another side of the conversation than what has been going on. And yeah it sucks that you can't play FIFA with your son today. I'm thankful that you're at least spending time with him.

Meanwhile I'm working 13-hr shifts at the hospital and only got to spend a little time with my wife, and zero time with the rest of my family, on Christmas. You can be sure that if I'd had the chance to spend time with my niece and XBL (or in her case Nintendo) got taken down, she and I would've found another way to spend time together.

I'm not trying to patronize anyone or be smug. In fact, the guy comparing this to someone yanking the distributor cap out of my car was being FAR more patronizing than I have been.

If you're taking it that way, then I apologize for your misinterpretation of my intent (see, now that's being smug). Disregard this statement. I was just trying to demonstrate the attitude you're attributing to me.

Update from Italy: X1 is now working properly, PSN still down and for some reason this blocks Singstar (damn, I had some people coming over to play it this afternoon)

Great post, fully agreed. Hope your son can get online soon :)

Thanks man.

Irritatingly I actually logged his account on first time of trying this morning and managed to enter his Wallet codes to put the money in his account. I checked FIFA was working then I thought 'Now it's working I'll turn it off and suprise him when he gets out of bed'.
I don't know what I was thinking. Just finished a bunch of 12 hour shifts and I'm tired I guess :-(

So, anyway I turned it off, woke him up and he ran through and tried to login to PSN - only to find he can't log in again.
Gaaaaaaahhhhhh!

Moral of the story (in the UK at least) if you ARE lucky enough to login to PSN today you might want to leave the PS4 on until you are sure you are finished with it.

I don't even need to do anything on PSN, all the games I'm playing are offline anyway. I just can't go to sleep until I know I'm online and connected. Like my life is empty and meaningless when I'm cut off.

Please someone help me I've officially lost my mind

Poor BBC reporters, no original Xbox online fun for them

ikCZC8vbXWNuf.jpg

They just googled "Xbox 1". ;-)

That's a US-based Playstation twitter. Maybe over there for you guys, but SCEE is keeping us in the dark. Which is exactly what I already said.

Yeah, looks like they are on holiday.

Strange thing is that it was working without a hitch this morning, but around 10 am local time it went down - noticed this as weird lagging in GTA V

Lol...breathe. It will be ok. I'm glad I'm nowhere near a console right now. I'd probably be just as frustrated. Being away from my ps4 distances me a bit and quells the rage.

Main problem right now is I assume that most people who normally do network operations are on break and staff is at a minimum.
That also goes for community and social.

Even if engineers had an update there would probably be no one in the office handling the social media accounts right now.

That is no excuse but probably the hard truth.

You are being patronizing AND smug.

Thanks for pointing out how you would find some other things to do.
I mean, gee, I never thought of that.
When he ran through this morning excitedly wanting to buy the Boxing day FIFA packs and show me what players he was gonna get only to be deflated by not being able to log in at all, I said to him ' Hey forget your excitement about your presents - put some rollerskates on and we'll go and play on our rollerskates. Outside, in the rain"

The amount of people tweeting abuse at PS/XB twitters really pisses me off. Like, someone in charge of Playstation UK's Twitter is going to have fuck all to do with servers.

I hate the internet anonymity thing that makes people into dicks and seemingly makes them forget that there are real people on the other end.

I thought it'd be over by now, but it's still down...

Because threads like this keep going and news articles keep popping up giving them attention. They always talked about planning something big for christmas and they did it so now they ride off the attention and frustration they see.

Not saying people shouldn't talk about the outage but having their name in caps as the first part of the title to the thread and everyone mentioning their name is doing s no favours

So weird. I can't connect to PSN, the store, remote play or anything, yet someone in the same room as me has no issues at all (apart from it being a little slow) . Makes no sense!

Unless they are limiting connections to one per IP in order to mitigate the effects of the DDoS

Did I not say that what works for me doesn't necessarily work for everyone? I just pointed out examples of what I personally do. I didn't, at any point, say that everyone else should just go strap some skates on. Nor did I say that you should take your kid out in the rain man.

I get it. It sucks. It sucks your kid got a present he can't use right now.

I also said before that if I were still a kid and caught by this, I'd probably be bummed. But yes, my dad would've told me to suck it up and we would've found something else to do. Board games, going to the range, watching TV/movies, something. There is always something else to do. Acting like the world is over because a video game isn't working IS absurd to me.

What you're doing, right there in that post, is the exact thing you're accusing me of doing. Also, you're upset, and I understand that even if I don't agree. But lashing out at me since the real targest of your anger (Lizardsquad) aren't here to leash out at isn't really called for.

i dont know what they are planning, but if they dont deliver a message with their attack and just do it for the lulz, then i dont know if should support them.
There is no "message" that would make it a defensible action. They probably ruined Christmas for some kids who do not know what is going on (and haven't a shred of perspective on account of parenting failures).

Are the digital store sales going to be extended somewhat? Not sure how many downloads of Sunset Overdrive are going to be sold if nobody can log in.

Why are the news reporting this as a hack. It isn't?

God I wish these so called hacker types would meet a violent end and allow the rest of us to get on with it.

At least hack things that matter like a bank or credit card company and wipe peoples credit histories.

Its not a hack. Its just DDOS. A firstgrader could do it.

Yeah, not really a hack. Just flooding the service. But wiping peoples credit history wouldn't necessarily be a good thing either. Sure, the blood-sucking credid issuing companies aren't exactly a target I would feel pity for, but they do employ a lot of people.

Imagine if AmEx suddenly had all its credit customers' balances zero'd. That'd mean millions of dollars in monthly payments or account payoffs suddenly ceasing, which would put a lot of people that work for that company out of a job, which would cause their families to suffer.

The initial attack might be pleasing, thinking of those evil predatory companies getting their come-uppance, but you never know what the cost might be in the end for the little guy.

So I guess it'd only cause me a lot of frustration if I went out and bought a PS Vita and FF XIV today, since I'd probably just wrestle with the login...
I guess I can't even download Suikoden?

Sorry, but you aren't some gold standard that everyone must hold to and follow. What you think is absurd doeasn't mean dick to anybody to be quite honest. You ARE being smug and shitting on people who have already been shit on enough today, and its been pretty disgusting reading your posts. Leave them be, let them vent ffs.

Did you stop paying for Xbox Live gold, too? Since that's down as well..

Don't have one? What are you trying to get at?

Steam and XBL have better infrastructure to deal with these problems and it's now just Sony who are trailing behind, you would assume with it's previous history with PSN that restoring public confidence on their network would be a top priority, would it not?

Would lizard quad even bother doing this with out twitter?

With out the attention? With out the pedestal they are nothing.

Twitter needs to be shut down for one week, make the world a better place (for you and me)

I'm not stopping anyone from venting or telling them not to, unlike what some people have been directing at me. I'm just voicing my opinion on the matter and that I disagree with the outrage, and that the outrage actually gives those kids what they want. You may dislike my opinion. Hell most people or everyone may dislike it, but that does not diminish my right to state it any more than anyone else's right to vent.

I'm sure if the mods thought I'd been out of line in this thread by the things I've been saying, they would've stepped in considering the visibility of this topic. And I haven't been "shitting" on anyone.

Lifeexpectancy, when you come into a thread and make blanket statements about how others should be reacting or feeling, you shouldn't be surprised to find some rebuffing your claims. No one doubts that there is more to do than play games on Xmas day, but that's not really the point of this thread and no one wants to hear someone acting as if they're the fucking voice of reason when this is an on-going situation that negatively affects their choice of entertainment options and/or gift-giving experience. You are not saying anything that any reasonable person doesn't already know and if you meant it for those who you felt were being unreasonable, you should have quoted and responded to them directly from the start.
