LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

So Microsoft and Sony should compensate us for being the victims of an attack that they can really in no way prevent?

I wouldn't be surprised if it says in the T&C's that they're not liable for ddos attacks. If its not in there yet it soon will be.

Maybe he meant having the authorities head there? Aside from this some members have expressed terrorist leanings, so yeah, that's another good reason to get rid of this group through law enforcement.

Hopefully a crazed fan will get to one of them and give them a reason to stop forever.

That's what the poster in question said. The implication is obvious. It's purely childish to wish violence on someone over video games.

Look people who are saying I'm overreacting need to think about personal circumstances. I work god Damn 50+ hours a week, I have a disabled autistic daughter who requires a lot of care and attention and my way of relaxing is it take myself away for a couple of hours to a world like gta or COD. Xmas has afforded me a few extra hours and this is what I get. Of course I'm angry

Being the father of a special needs son, I don't blame you one bit. I am in the same boat, video games are what basically keeps me sane. Hopefully all this gets worked out soon.

Why is that? It's so lame that this is a thing people can do in this day and age.
Because the Internet is just made up of a bunch of machines, machines that do what they are told. Also lame: robbery, assault, crime, rampant douchebaggery, and other shitty stuff. People being shitheads just because they can is not exclusive to "this day and age".

You God damn right. We are paying for these services, yet cannot use them. On Christmas, no less. Imagine all of the new console owners who just bought a year sub to Live or PS+. "Whoops, sorry. Nothing we can do about it. Enjoy!"

I know the feeling. We just had our son.

I don't see why this unreasonable. it seems that when paying for a premium web service that you should expect premium network and security guys running the network.

So technically they could keep this up forever couldn't they?

Security guys to do what? How many times do people have to post the same thing before people understand?

Main headline on CNN. Fucking hell, here we go again.. the media's giving them all the attention they want.
So billion dollar companies are completely vulnerable to DDOS attacks? Pretty major chink in the armor. I find it hard to believe that no one has come up with a defense against this shit..

Question that may have been asked already. The kids that were (allegedly) arrested... I'm assuming that had nothing to do with this squad? Or maybe cut one head off 20 more take its place?

There are services such as Cloudflare that will re-route the traffic to prevent a DDOS attack.

Hoping for actual violence against someone who's disrupting your video games seems even more immature than script kiddies disrupting video games.

God, this trivialising again?

It's people disrupting thousands and perhaps millions of Christmases, disrupting multiple company earnings (care to put a number on the lost digital purchases alone?), and throwing support staff against the wall.

the online service should be up by now. I do not see how a simple ddos attack will keep it down for this long. They must have monkeys as their engineers lol

It went out for me pretty much all night after being up for about an hour. It's back right now, though.

During the outage I couldn't run Netflix or Xbox Video. I get that.

But what I found unacceptable was that the Achievements App could not be loaded. That is crazy. I tweeted Phil Spencer about this.

I was afraid of even playing Costume Quest 2, to avoid the risk of "earning" an achievement and having it not unlock due to the Achievements App being inaccessible.

Am I being paranoid? What happens if you earn an achievement while offline? When does the achievement unlock?

Hopefully Anon posts another pic and address. Hopefully a crazed fan will get to one of them and give them a reason to stop forever.

It'll be more satisfying to see them get locked up and made someone's bitch in prison than some random idiot that may take justice into their own hands do something much worse.

To hell with that. These people disrupted me and my fiancees one planned special night online. I wish all the physical violence upon them. A good swatting with a nice kneecap would make my holiday.

I work for a group that shapes policy to help families like yours, simply from listening to the stories parents tell, it is clear free-time is like striking a goldmine. I now feel super angry on your behalf, even though I am away from my consoles all week.

PSN and XBL dependencies are such garbage. I'll probably be getting in some Smash Bros today because offline games are not just fun but still absolutely necessary.

If you want someone to commit violence over a video game DDOS, you have fucking problems. Period.

It should unlock after you can log back in.

Has nothing to do with the games, my limit was reached with the act of the payoff. Best stay quiet if you don't know 100% where someone stands.

Maybe it's just me but this sounds crazy as fuck.

If you earn an achievement while offline, it will unlock the next time you sign into XBL.

I dont want to come across as a smartass but I am 99% sure that when you signed up for your service that you agreed to terms that if it went offline, you are fine with it (and all that legal stuff).

The best way to go about it, is to not pay for the service next time, then perhaps Microsoft/Sony will be inclined to hand out free stuff.

This whole situation sucks though and for the first time, I am actually questioning online gaming. (but of course when my PSN runs out, ill be the first to go renew it lmao....)

Yeah I was wondering this myself. Hell even if these guys stop what's to stop a copy cat from doing this the next day or NK or some bullshit?

Time for the cliche. Back in my day if you did something bad you got your ass whupped for it. This kind of thing requires an asswhupping of huge proportions. This is more than just video games. This is destroying people's livelihoods.
And this needs to be a lesson to companies that an all digital console is a no no in this day and age. Here's looking at you Microsoft.

So Microsoft and Sony should compensate us for being the victims of an attack that they can really in no way prevent?

Not sure how that's a justifiable excuse (legalities aside, maybe it is legal, I don't know).

The way I see it is any service I pay for, I expect to receive that service or and adjustment/compensation needs to come into play. If the service provider is unable to deliver, saying "sorry it isn't our fault, no compensation" is bad business and tarnishes the name of the brand. If my internet/phone goes out for what I believe to be an extended period of time that prevents my usage/productivity, my power goes out, cable, etc I'm getting my bill adjusted because the services I'm paying for aren't available.

Again if it is legal for outages to a service you pay for to be part of the experience, then they aren't obligated to provide anything since you agreed to it by accepting the T's&C's. Bad for business though.

So at this point, what's to stop this attack from Lizard Squad? I mean, do they have the resources to continueosly do this over the next few days?

Hopefully MS or Sony will sink some money into finding these knuckleheads and go after them for financial loss. If you can go after them criminally, attack their parents financially.

Not being able to use what I am paying for sounds crazier to me. But hey, opinions vary.
Normally I'd agree but this is an instance where you're complaining that you can't use a service due to an attack that they in no way could prevent. What in the world were they supposed to do? Not to mention giving away free stuff as a result is only going to encourage more stuff like this to happen

Can anyone explain why I'm able to get online with my PS3 and can view the mobile app but cannot get online be with my PS4?

PSN and XBL dependencies are such garbage. I'll probably be getting in some Smash Bros today because offline games are not just fun but still absolutely necessary.

This is why I love my non-connected consoles. I can play my games as intended without fear of someone taking them offline or disabling them entirely.
