LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Punitive justice system does not really work. This has been established and there really are only emotional justifications. I personally know one person who took part in internet shenanigans a decade or so ago, he received a slap on the wrist and now lives a normal life. You believe putting people like him behind bars serves any purpose what so ever?

I understand the frustration, these actions cause a lot of damage and frustration, but if the perpetrators are young then there really is no need for public flogging or long sentences. Kids go through phases, I might have done something similar back in the day when I was going through anxiety and lashed out from time to time. I just did not have the tools available nor the knowledge to pull off something like this.

You say they don't work but give no example of them not working. No one is doing it. They are putting innocent people behind bars while letting other corrupt men walk free. If it was done correctly it would work.

While it's hard to prevent them, it's not hard to hardening your network to help mitigate the damage. I typically recommend the following services to my clients;

https://www.blacklotus.net/
http://www.prolexic.com/

These guys rock when it comes to mitigating DDoS attacks and I've seen them in action several times. Perhaps it's time for both networks, hell, everyone conduct an audit and then hit these guys up.
Sony apparently uses prolexic so...

Holy fuck

If i have to hear one more news anchor insinuate that this has anything to do with The Interview, my mind will fucking explode.

Their participation in a DDOS puts them at risk to a system that is more abusive and harsh than any chest-pounding Gaffer can ever be. I'm not sure what else the tough guys want, other than some petty self-satisfaction.

Everyone is allowed to vent their frustrations, and I'd say in this case they have every right to. Is your only purpose in this thread to protect the Lizard douchebags? Cause it sure looks it to me.

What? I worked as an IT tech, the second a baking page failed to load I got tickets opened in less than a minute. When I moved to a multinational corporation to work as SA on virtual servers after 5 seconds of a server not responding we got massive critical tickets opened to resolve the issue in less than 30 minutes.

The fact that PSN is still down it is a clear show that Sony doesn't takes seriously the availability of PSN as a service otherwise they would push for a 99.9% availability. So far PSN doesn't even qualify for a Two nines (99% availability = 3.65 days down per year) and if I get pushed I would say that so far PSN should be between 96 to 97% availability which is a pretty crappy service.

Led_Zeppelin brings up a good point and also has a username that is worthy of a whole lotta love.

Has anyone (e.g. a website) been tracking the amount of hours that PSN has been down throughout the year broken down by region? I know it'd be difficult data to get, but it would be a rather good thing to measure going forward.

Your hate boner for me is cute.

Your smug satisfaction with provoking folks in a shitty situation is not cute. You aren't doing nothing, you are leeching off people's emotional responses to.... what exactly?

Not true. My PS4 has been my primary console since day 1 and a couple weeks ago my internet was offline for two days and all my digital games were inaccessible.

Mine work. Try go into settings and stop the PS4 from connecting to the internet. It's probably just idling out trying to verify your licenses or something.

So to be clear they are doing this " for the lulz" and that's it right? Like they have no goal here except to piss in the punch bowl.

"I must be actively protecting them by not calling for mob tactics." What a moronic thing to say.

I was able to play Far Cry 4 digitally fine last night offline. Only thing I can think of is thst you might need to restore your licenses.

And you are free to take it to PMs. If somebody is breaking a rule, PM a mod if you'd like. If a rule isn't being broken, kindly stfu and stop with the tone policing. You know damn well nobody is about to physically assault these guys so what do you get out of repeatedly posting about it?

That's a bit of a tough analogy.

Something like. You were thinking of going to get a pizza but a group of anti-meat protestors clogged up the shop and wouldn't let anyone pass to order a pizza. So now you feel like you should be compensated with a free pizza because you couldnt get in to pay for one yourself.
More like they made you pay for your pizza at the door, but the anti-meat protestors are inside preventing you from getting your pizza

Man, what would some of you do if your internet went completely down for 2 days? Would there be gaffers rioting and publicly executing comcast technicians?

Xbox Live seems to be handling it much better than PSN. Also, I am assuming the Microsoft servers are in Seattle and the Sony servers are in Saint Louis. The latter is getting hammered much harder.

They may have migrated over to Sony if Microsoft was able to handle the initial stuff better. Can't get both? Might as well get one

Just sign out of you psn account. That way the console can full register you as being offline. If you PSN says you're signed in, then the game will continue to try and connect to servers.

This is what is so moronic about it. Putting themselves, their future livelihoods as well as people they know at risk for seemingly nothing. Their naivety is outstanding. They really must trust the systems they have in place to keep their anonymity.

I just want to play Destiny, I want to see Xur
Bungie is too busy trolling us with "have you seen Xur"
no....because these damn online services are not working

My internet has been down a few days due to storms and what not. That doesn't bother me. If it was because some kid was going around cutting the wires in my house I'd be a little pissed just like I am now.

Context.

PSN is still down in EU. Microsoft handles this much better and i think sony is taking this so long because there doing a huge investigation if there not hacked and it happend before no wonder it takes days before it is online again.

I checked XBL about an hour ago and all looked good. PSN, not so well.
