LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

My PS4 will automatically log me into PSN, but I can't access any network services. When PSN is completely down, it will pop up a message telling you that PSN is not available- it did this to me yesterday saying "down for maintenance". So I guess it's online, but really offline.

Who gives a fuck if he's immature?
He should grow up and act like a decent member of society.
He's 22.
If he had took a gun and shot some people nobody would be using his age as an excuse for him not to receive whatever he had coming to him.
From his own words in the interview he knows what he is doing is illegal, he knows it is disrupting and upsetting people. He knows and acknowledges it will have spoiled Christmas for many innocent children and parents. He just doesn't give a fuck because he rates his (and his pathetic gang of arseholes) desires to act like a bunch of selfish idiot dick heads higher than that of allowing other people to go about their own business unhindered.

I hope the pathetic little turds get caught and get horrendously long jail sentences. That will be a better deterrent to future cyber criminals than any of the bullshit reasoning the retards gave about trying to expose security flaws.

Lizard Squad, just try to stop us playing this!

The North American release was significantly delayed to include support for the very different NetLink modem, a 28k modem released for the SEGA Saturn in North America that used direct-dial technology to connect players directly to one another as opposed to a server-based system. As with all NetLink games players dial one another directly over telephone lines and as such battle 'online' with surprisingly little lag time; and as with all NetLink games it remains as such 'online forever'

'online forever'

Well I'm in an awful pickle here. I just got my 20th anniversary PS4 and was going to set it up the day before it arrived on the 24th I deactivated ALL my devices because I wasn't home to deactivate my old ps4 cause I was at my parents I can't do anything on any device cause they all are deactivated... my ps3, old and new ps4, pstv, and both of my vitas... and this shit started as soon as I deactivated them...
Wow..sorry.

Is it normal that my disc based games won't load up until I tell my PS4 to not try to connect?

This is so annoying, I literally just got a PS4 a week ago, I was going to go online and buy the season pass for Driveclub :(

There is no "right" to get something in return. If Sony deems they need some good PR, they might offer something in return. If you decide this is wholly unacceptable, contact them and tell them you want to cancel PS+ or don't re-subscribe. There is no entitlement involved or set time frame that has to pass before they are required to give you free shit.
Interesting. I would disagree.

If my cell phone service stopped working for a week, you don't think consumers would be entitled to compensation? If my TV service stopped working for a month?

At the very least, consumers would be entitled to a credit for the amount of time missed.

It doesn't really bother me that PSN, XBL are down (or were down, I have no clue if Xbox Live is up? Hearing mixed things.)
It bothers me that PlayStation and Xbox are not more vocal about whats happening. A dedicated twitter feed, or just a page on their blog. A place where they can just drop in when there are issues and say "Hey, we were hit with a ddos attack. Restoring service, might take a bit. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Just keep us updated on what's happening, please.

Thanks again, your posts are pretty clear !

Do you think PSN is more vulnerable than XBL or there is no difference for both of them if they are under DDoS attack ?

All I have is conjecture. Microsoft is in the business of selling enterprise-level hosting solutions, so it is in their best interests to have good, solid infrastructure and knowledge. They've also been working on Xbox Live for some time now, since 2002 to be exact.

So from my experience, Xbox Live is very robust, and seems to recover much more quickly from serious attacks. It's also very secure, Microsoft was pretty insistent on that from the start.

PlayStation Network, in contrast, seems very hastily put together. I'm not sure if Sony did it in-house, or outsourced it, but it was full of holes since the day it launched, which resulted in the 2011 outage and intrusion.

At the time of the outage, with a count of 77 million registered PlayStation Network accounts,[7] it was one of the largest data security breaches in history.

Sony patched PSN up as best as they could, but it feels like it's still a bit rickety. It might be due to Sony not taking it seriously enough, or they don't allocate enough funds, or whoever they're paying to do it for them isn't that great - or it might be a side-effect of them trying to cover too much ground. Xbox Live is only one server, for one console. It did have some offshots, like Games for Windows Live, but that got shuttered already. PSN, or more accurately, the now called SEN, Sony Entertainment Network by contrast, has to cover their TVs, music players, PlayStation 3, 4, Vita, and a bunch of other stuff. That's a lot of fingers in a lot of pies, and I wonder if Sony can adequately manage it. That they're taking so long to recover from this DDoS isn't giving me a lot of confidence, but again, we don't have all the information.

So, honestly, yes. I think PSN is more vulnerable than XBL. It's why I don't store my credit card information on PSN (especially not since 2011). I don't think it condemns Sony in my eyes, but it does make me wary of trusting their online services too much. Something that should really just be a habit with anyone, no matter how secure something might look. Google has been breached before, with 5 million gmail accounts compromised as a result. And yet, I do use a looot of Google services, like Google Docs, which has almost ten years of my work on it. It does make me worry. Storing anything online, is just dangerous, since something is only as secure as its weakest link.

And even if a system is VERY secure, people can still social-engineer their way in if they really want to, making passwords, security, and encryption meaningless, if just one support tech gets fooled into revealing too much info, that could give someone what they need to get in almost legitimately.

lol how stupid are they.

first of, the reason we haven't had such a ddos attack in a long time was because noone is dumb enough to do that but here they are.
instead of laying low they conducted a phone interview and annoyed anon.
seems like all the buzz is getting over their head and in the end this is how they will get caught. it's only a matter of time.

What ever happened to that actual huge hacker organization (Anonymous?) that hacked PSN way back when?

Aren't they the real deal? They should help us the fuck out..

Man... Fuck all these hackers with nothing better to do. Get a fucking life and stop aggravating gamers who want to enjoy the holidays with the games we/ they got. I feel like inviting these bitches over for a southern ass whooping! /endrant

This security expert says that some members of Lizard Squad are known to US authorities.

While most of the group’s acolytes are known to U.S. enforcement investigators, many are minors, and the sad truth is that federal prosecutors don’t really know what to do with underage felons except to turn them into informants.

He also talks about the growing influence of DDoS-for-hire services and other enablers.

EDIT: His website is frequently down because LS attack him periodically.

I know at least Sony is constantly updating Twitter and Facebook.

And really, it's better if they avoid giving attention to LS.

Actually 2, but like I said, hopefully it doesn't come to this, but PS3 owners know, we've been here before. Like someone already posted above, if you just do the straight math, we're "owed" less than $1 at this point.

I was simply asking at what point would we, as consumers, be entitled to demand some type of compensation for the loss of a service we're paying for? Weeks? Months?

Certainly wasn't saying they owe us anything for 2 days.

I don't think that's too unreasonable myself. The silence is deafening honestly since this is day 2 even though it is the holidays a state, net would be nice.

This little pissing match is rather pathetic.

a bunch of dweebs shit talking over twitter and not actually doing anything is so damn lame.

"Hacker Warz"

The story of 2 hacker groups trying to stop each other, but in the process one member of group 1 (lizard squad) falls in love with a member of group 2 (finest) , and to be together forever they must expose each other for true love. but right before that happens theres a twist in which they were actually the same group all along, found out by a larger hacker commissioned by the free masons.

yea

probably should have lay low for awhile, pretty much pulling a ja rule on this and beefing with everything possible

at least that's what it appears like from skimming the thread
