Oh great.

Likely a back end box isn't responding. I would wager that means it's close though. Progress.
shitty analogy, but very true point.
An 80s style crash and infustry reset wouldn't be the worst thing to happen, other than to people who would lose their jobs.
I can log into PSN but it's not hitting the servers to verify licenses so I still can't play anything. Lame.
Actually, when Target got hacked we got a percentage off a purchase.Spot on. Both companies need to buy more server farms, invest in advanced coolant tech to keep everything frosty and beef up their firewall protection scheme ASAP in order to keep these marauding lizard men at bay. Everything needs to be off the grid and cloud synced to ensure a minimum of packet loss. Our enjoyment as gamers depends upon these immediate urgent measures.
Any other woefully uninformed people want to bitch about what Microsoft or Sony should be doing to prevent an IT intrusion from occurring that they have zero understanding of?
Reality check fuck heads: when Home Depot, Target, or Chase get hacked, we don't get free chocolate covered lobsters or sexual favors from their staff. We get increased pricing due to the overhead costs incurred by strengthening network security to keep up with constantly advancing hack attempts.
Blame whatever societal breakdowns are happening that foster this kind of antisocial and malevolent behavior frim these "hactivists". Don't blame the companies targeted for cyber rape by these misguided madmen.
Well the "Hacker Warz" E-Soap Opera has died down significantly. I guess I'll have to get my entertainment some where else.
Peace out I'm gonna go turn on my PS....haha /s
Do we have an evidence that XBL and PSN are hammered by the same amount?
I don't see it that way. This doesn't happen if these antisocial assholes don't make it happen. My rage is directed at them.Aside from your shocking lack of tact, it's a shitty analogy.
PSN and XBL are professional services provided by multi-billion dollar corporations who have a duty to provide service to their customers. When it's clear that it's possible for a company to do better than another at providing those services in the face of adversity, you cannot simply ignore the fact that Sony may simply be doing a bad job.

Blaming Sony is like blaming a woman for getting raped after having a couple of drinks, or a family for getting robbed because they left a window unlocked. This is all squarely on the shoulders of the perpetrators, not the victims.

But were you paying for the meal your mum was preparing?I don't see it that way. This doesn't happen if these antisocial assholes don't make it happen. My rage is directed at them.
I don't doubt that Sony is doing everything it can to get things back up and running... this attack is seriously hurting their bottom line and their brand.
Let's try a less inflammatory analogy: Say someone walks into your mother's house and trashes her kitchen, leaving smashed dishes everywhere, then pushes her down and takes off. You show up for dinner a few hours later. Do you yell at her for not being able to serve you food?
Wait. What difference does that make??
I don't think fighting amongst ourselves and jumping on other people for apt yet slightly tasteless analogies is going to help anything...
Not when you get DDoS'ed like that.Aside from your shocking lack of tact, it's a shitty analogy.

I dont think "calm down" necessarily means that people shouldnt feel angry, at least in my opinion. To me, its more of a way to say that anger wont make any difference, then its up to the individuals to take that into account or not. But sure, its possible to ignore those posts as well and not quote them. That is also an option, indeed. By the way, i'm only referring to the calm down post, i dont know about the other posts. Why not let it go? The emotion is understandable. Every one of those posts is quoted by the same few people.
"slightly" lolI don't think fighting amongst ourselves and jumping on other people for apt yet slightly tasteless analogies is going to help anything...

You can't do shit against it.
Blame the script kiddies and hope they get arrested.
Sony and MS got attacked. They are not to blame here.
"slightly" lol

If you get hit by such a large scale DDoS attack, you have problems. Shit happens.Blame? I don't blame them the attacks happened. I don't even blame them that they were down for a day.
But, two days? It's hard to not start raising an eyebrow. You're full of shit if you think there's nothing they can do about it for two full days other than pray to god that the cops find them or some such pipe dream.

does it offend you so? It shouldn't.
Regarding the rape analogy, it's obviously offensive because it is about rape and hackles are raised whenever the topic is mentioned, but it says nothing offensive about that act (on top of it just being offensive by itself). I don't get why people are freaking out about the analogy. Generally, it is right - A has been attacked by B and some people are losing their minds at A. Okay.
But, it misses the paid service aspect of the relationship. We paid the harmed party for services. We are A. We have paid B, the staff at a pizza counter (I bet you thought it was going to be prostitutes) for our slice of tasty 'zza. Suddenly C breaks into the kitchen and smashes up the joint and takes the cooked pizza and runs out. Obviously C is to blame.
However, if B is standing around looking at the wreckage and there is fresh pizza in the oven, they should get it for A. We have paid for it. That's the only interesting part of the story as far as I am concerned. Could Sony have done more for their customers following the event? If anyone has good information to that effect, that would be good to hear.
The better analogy is two houses with families. House #1 and House #2. Professional burglars attempt to rob both houses and succeed. House #1 has better insurance. House #1's kids get their toys back quicker.
Okay. What can they do?
I guess my only question is the following; If these attacks are so easy to pull off, so difficult to defend against and are being done by people who's only motivation is to piss people off, why do they only occur once every couple months? If they truly get their jollies from fucking shit up, why don't they attack every day and keep things offline permanently?
They could be standing in line with A. Who cares?ho ho ho paid for services? You are not considering bringing prostitutes into the analogy are you?
My analogy (evidently lots of people here don't understand analogies) is about where the rage is directed. Should the kids in House #2 be pissed at their parents for having crappy insurance, or at the burglars? The better analogy is two houses with families. House #1 and House #2. Professional burglars attempt to rob both houses and succeed. House #1 has better insurance. House #1's kids get their toys back quicker.
Idk how u guys think the companys a victim here, it is a victim of an attack, but its their fault they cant protect themselves.
If every kid in his moms basement could bring down a whole billion dollar industry with a few clicks we'd be doomed and the gaming world would have died years ago. This is a major fuckup, Im pretty sure PS4/X1 were major gifts this year, and they simply dont work properly on christmas day and a few days after. Specially when most consoles come with a downloadable game, its essencially a 400$ paperweight.
Last years attack was a big fuckup, but I actually think this is far worse, this is probably the most important season for these industries.
