Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

Nothing has to objectively be mentioned, what the hell. It's Giant Bomb's GOTY awards. They pick what they want.

And they're not going to mention games only one of them played when that one person hated it. But it's OK to call that a gap in knowledge. Being a Giant Bomb thread there will always be people who can't handle that type of criticism, though. Hell I remember spending many pages arguing with a guy who said it was Sony's fault that none of them knew that digital PS2 games had been for sale on the PS3 for over a year.

Gerstman is a tool and his review of the game is one of the laziest pieces I have seen this year. Couldn't even be bothered to find out how to change car colors.

Yes, but that doesn't prevent them from potentially forgetting some things that could/should be mentioned. If Jason wasn't there, for example, Guilty Gear Xrd probably would not have made it into the conversation at all. The game that ended up taking the whole category wouldn't have even been discussed, because either they would have forgotten about it or most of them wouldn't have cared (just like reactions when it was initially brought up).

Very good point.

Yeah I mean Jeff is pretty much the only one on staff who likes driving games, Alex might play some as well. And on top of that, Jeff didn't like Driveclub at all - to at that point expect the rest of the staff to take a look at it is a stretch. Furthermore, the update which makes it a really great looking was released well beyond when Jeff played it. I think it's reasonable for him to not go back and look at a game that he dismissed several weeks before.

In the end it's GB's GOTY awards. If they didn't play a game, or just didn't like a game, they don't have to include it. Get over it.

Dude, you're too quickly lambasting people for having a conversation with you about this as being GBfanboys.

DriveClub objectively deserves to be mentioned when it comes to best looking games of the year, just like GoW3 in 2010. No one else played it but Jeff so as a group they lack knowledge about it.

The only thing amazing here is how passive aggressive you're being.

I own Driveclub, I've enjoyed the 5 or so hours I've spent with it. But Driveclub is not the unquestioned, undisputed, best looking game of the year. People have differing opinions.

But ffs, take it easy with the personal attacks. We're all friends here.

They didn't, as a group, like the game enough to nominate it. Big deal. My GOTY is Alien Isolation, a game they've also ignored. So what? I'm not attacking anyone over it, or saying they have a lack of videogame knowledge. Jeff has more videogame knowledge in his pinky than I've acquired in 35 years of gaming.

Shadow of Mordor will get GOTY, Destiny runner-up.

The main thing I've got out of the first podcast is that it's been a pretty bad year for games.

How did you come down to Destiny being a runner up if you listened to the podcast? Maybe on someone's personal list, but overall not a chance.

People can discuss their decisions and process, otherwise what's the point of this thread? You can get over it.

Though I'll agree people are getting a bit too frustrated over it.

Discussion is great if it doesn't fall into categories of "this person is a tool!" That's insulting and not even close to discussion.

It's the spontaneous nature of their deliberations. If they were to have the "best graphics" discussion again, other games would possibly be in the running. I prefer something like that over a methodical, calculated list of games with technical feats. Maybe they simply forgot about Driveclub or they didn't play it enough.

I never said it was the best looking game of the year, just that not mentioning at all showed a lack of knowledge in the group. In the same way that if Jason had missed this episode that GG Xrd would not have been mentioned.

So I'm still not sure what you found so "amazing" about that. I interpreted that response as being defensive, but I apologize if you consider the d-word to have been a personal attack.

So far people aren't quite freaking out over DriveClub not getting mentioned for best looking as much as they did in 2010 when God of War III didn't get mentioned for that category.

Man, I don't even care much about what the awards actually go to, but to this day I find it weird that it didn't even get mentioned during that talk, especially by Brad who is very much into the technical merits of the category.

It is to their own discredit. I think it is ridiculous that they don't play one of the few exclusives on PS4.

Ooh nifty, five hours. Did you see many of the tracks in their unique time of day/weather conditions? Did you play post-IQ/weather patch?

Alien Isolation didn't get ignored, pretty sure they brought it up. And still said it was buggy on consoles, didn't that get patched?

I'm tired of hearing that about Jeff by the way. It is just not true. He hasn't even played X-Wing or Tie Fighter, heh. His perspective is quite limited and he isn't shy of saying that. That also applies to films and anime.

50% of all posts in any GB thread is from fans complaining about what one of the guys said in a quick look, or saying the last show was boring, or bitching about the lack of premium content.
The rest is Anime and Wrestling talk, or Brad yelling at someone.

I'm exaggerating a bit, but the idea that GB threads are populated only by some sort of GB defense force is pretty hilarious.

The nature of GB Game of the year is depended on what the crew played, that's just something to accept. Wonderful 101 was the shit in my opinion but i think only Vinny played that game that year so there wasn't even much of a discussion about it.You have your own games you played and loved, they won't necessarily play the same games.
You could shout at them on twitter to play the games, it could lead to something like Patrick playing the VLR series, but they certainly get enough of that on a daily dose. Their opinions are not that big of a deal to be a major injustice to me i guess.

I played Driveclub. It looks boring. Moving on!

I mean, GB is the site with the most subjective content coverage out there, don't understand how people csn possibly be butthurt in here...

I think people forget that Giant Bomb is a personality based site. They aren't trying to play the most games or deliver the most news. The fact that they play only the games that they want to play and aren't forced to do anything is all part of the reality schtick that differentiates them from other websites.

Giant Bomb is a show and we keep tuning in to see the development of these characters.

I hope they do not suffer from quality drops after season 10 like the simpsons

I used to get angry about this stuff when i thought that a lot of people might be informed by their opinions but who the fuck would want to be like Dan.

I... what... he's talked many times about playing and loving TIE Fighter when it came out 20 years ago.

Not trying to derail discussion here or anything, but people make so many wrong assumptions about what we have and haven't played in the course of these threads that I'm surprised people still try to hang their hats on them as talking points.

Giantbomb has one of the most transparent Game of the Year Deliberations in all of the industry, in that they record the debate for EVERYONE to listen to.

Yet people get upset because a game is left off.

You can't make everyone happy can you?

And where is this support for Driveclub fucking coming from, from everything I read I though people generally didn't like the game?

Maybe I have been disconnected for too long, but WTF?

That's about the realest shit I've ever heard, it's like Full House but with more beards and Dan.
