Dark Souls 2 Director on future of series: Stuff planned that will blow your head off

By Jenna Pitcher Dark Souls 2 director Yui Tanimura believes the Dark Souls universe is a good fit for virtual reality content, he told IGN in an interview via translator.

“This isn't something that we are looking into detail yet, or at least right now, but I agree that the world of Dark Souls 2 is something that has a very visceral element to it,” says Tanimura, in response to if Dark Souls virtual reality was something that developer From Software was experimenting with.

“Going forward in terms of future games in the series, there are definitely more possibilities in terms of new enemies that take advantage of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One… ,” he adds. “I’m sure its not a secret there are all kinds of possibilities for the future, especially with this new hardware and much expertise going forward. There are some planning documents that we have internally that would blow your head off.”

Visceral action detected.

But anyway, that doesn't tell us anything about what they have planned. Seems kind of silly to make a statement that's just "We're trying to do something cool."

So...what ever happened to that Tomohiro Shibuya guy? Seems like he just fell off the face of hte earth.

And I guess it wasn't the same Tomohiro Shibuya that worked on MoHun?

Coming from the Souls team, this might mean literally.

which one is the director of ACE and how do we get him off dark souls so he can work on more ACE games

(please make more ACE games please god)

or just turn dark souls 3 into ACE souls

I don't mean to sound rude but I don't want Yui Tanimura to touch the series again :/

Honestly this...would rather Miyazaki come back for the 3rd but that isnt going to happen.

Just hope this series doesnt see a shift in quality and design philosophy along the lines of Dead Space....I have a very uneasy feeling it will.

Ouch. Being kinda harsh on poor Yui Tanimura. He took over during a huge transition period for From and while not perfect, did a perfectly servicable job with Dark Souls 2. I personally enjoyed the first Dark Souls more, but the second one is in no way bad. Now that he's got his feet wet, lets see how he does in the next one.

I will not buy if its from the B-team after the disappointment of Dark Souls 2. Please don't ruin this series. Maybe they should get some more direction from Miyazaki and his team.

There's no way it isn't the B team doing this. Bloodborne is the true continuation of the Souls series and likely the final "real" one assuming Miyazaki doesn't do another.

There is no "B" team. It's like saying the Uncharted team is not as good as TLOU team.

Nomenclature:

Team behind Dark Souls, Demons Souls, Bloodborne --- Team Miyazaki / A team
Team behind Dark Souls 2 --- B team.

Plus, didn't Naughty Dog A-team begin TLoU after completing UC2, while the B-team did UC3?

I'm just asking a question, because I thought I heard that, but I'm certainly not sure.

If true though, you can see A-team was behind the two greatest critically acclaimed ND titles of last gen.

I don't know about ND but with FROM we actually looked at the credits and roles for each game....there's a massive in depth thread of this comparison:

Yep, I know about that thread. Miyazaki also admitted that he didn't have much direction in DS2. I personally think it shows. I don't want to spark another DeS / DS1 vs DS2 thread though. People get touchy about it.

Still getting PS4 DS2 though :D

I can't wait for it. They did a fantastic job with DS2,and I'm sure they've listened to criticisms. Wasn't the dlc meant to be good too? I really enjoyed the first one but am waiting on the PS4 version before playing the others.
