Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

Bayonetta 2 is the only other game that everyone seems to have played and enjoyed but I don't see it competing with Mordor.

I disagree. It seems like everyone is definitely behind Bayonetta 2 and after how they collectively talked about Mordor on the podcast today, it doesn't seem likely that Mordor will win GOTY. That's my bet, anyway.

Also, Alex is great. He's a good voice to have on staff.

And I really like the gameageddon theme this year and that it has an overarching storyline over five days. It's fun. I also think that this year's deliberations are amazing and very contentious. I'm really enjoying the 2014 awards.

I'm catching up on GotY stuff, did I hear Patrick say "Spelunky is by far one of the best games ever made," or something to that effect? That guy is a parody of himself. I love Spelunky, but come on fella!

I think the Day 3 video has been the best so far! Dan's part was perfect, and Jason's segment was hilarious. Singstar was a great pick, and now I want Singstar... Except I don't have a PS4.

I don't see why that's even remotely a weird opinion.

Wish the guys enjoyed playing different games. Seems like the most of the games they all like are all pretty similar AAA games. Kinda weird to see Mordor for best debut when that game plays exactly like every other Ass Creed or Batman game. The gameplay felt fine, yeah, but how can you fuck that same old gameplay up at this point?

Eventually they're going to realize they just keep playing the same game over and over each year. At least Jeff is probably aware he keeps playing the same shit year after year and maybe that's why he feels bored of games sometimes.

Brad the tsundere karaoke master. Dude's got pipes.

And yeah, I also saw Jeff's GOTY coming. He got into the AW multiplayer in a big way.

It's funny that you say that because just recently heard Giant Bomb criticized by being too much of an Indie loving site. I think they cover a lot of variety between all members, unfortunately that sometimes means that only one person in the crew likes a thing, but still.

"I'm Jeff Gerstmann, and I hate video games"

Jason's segment is absolute gold.

Dan's segment was really impressive and Jason's was just hilarious.

And man those best of singstar performances gave me goosebumps. Jeff's Tricky should find its way to that list.

I know it's been said many times many ways, but taking a bump looks like it sucks. Completely ignoring your body's instincts to protect yourself and falling really hard really fast on your back. Ugh.

I bet Dan had a lot of fun shooting that though.

If you actually love Spelunky, if you love and understand why that game is so good... you should be nodding your head at that part!

I platinum'd Mordor last week and thought the Nemesis system was way overhyped. It was only really relevant to me when manipulating the system through branding (which was neat, but still). I died very few times in combat, probably because putting a TPS mechanic (slo-mo + arrows) into the Batman combat system is broken as hell. Arrows alone can get you like 10 kills without even a single swing of the sword, and combat draining to refill them became my main strategy. After picking off the trash mobs with insta-kill arrows, most captains were easily dealt with through stun + flurry + ground takedown + repeat. The only real threat to me was fighting multiple captains at once, which I usually just ran away from unless I could kill one of them instantly with arrows or stealth.

Spelunky is a fantastic game and I had no problem with Patrick's praise of it. Would easily be my "Best old game of the year" and is one of my favorite games of all time...AND I SUCK AT IT. I still play it nearly every day at least once.

I feel kind of the opposite. They play a lot of weird and offbeat stuff, and games like The Fall and Velvet Sundown are featuring very heavily in their discussions. What's fascinating to me is how stuff like Velvet Sundown and Mount Your Friends can become major players because of the multiplayer experience which might not even be re-creatable.

Its one of the few single player games (atleast in the modern gaming era) i still played a ton of past the point where accomplished everything i wanted to in the game.
