Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

The groundrules for the Best Debut category sound like Jeff was making them up on the spot to keep Hearthstone out. Somehow a Lord of the Rings and Alien game qualify but not a card game based on a RTS/RPG series. Just call it best game that isn't a sequel or something.

I just love how quiet the room got when Brad was singing. Go figure, the one time he's good at a game, and no one is cheering him on.

I'm still behind, has Transistor come up at all? It seems like after the initial excitement the GB crew forgot all about that game.
Came up for like five seconds on best looking game. I have a feeling that lack of any Transistor talk may be due to the same reasons they didn't review it, but who knows.

Came up in the "best exclusive console exclusive console" category too. I think it was like the only thing that kept the PS4 on the list for them.

Nah. They aren't talking about it because the game wasn't that great and none of them actually enjoyed it all that much at all.

Alright guys, ya got me. Spelunky is better than Tetris and Ocarina of Time and Super Mario World and Goonies 2.

I'm sure for someone Farming Simulator is better than Tetris and Ocarina of Time and Super Mario World and Goonies 2, so what's the big deal? If Spelunky is Patrick's GOAT then it's his GOAT. End of story.

The fact that you even mentioned Goonies with those other titles should tell you all you need to know about the subjectivity of personal taste.

Reading the various guest lists, this Xavier Woods guy sounds like an awesome dude.

Whoosh.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture but if you put your own game on your GOTY list you bring shame to yourself.

He's one of the main wrestlers in Hoodslam, which is a monthly (amateur?) "professional" wrestling event in Oakland CA.

I love that his Hoodslam shirt was just a bootleg Nintendo logo.

The more I hear about Hoodslam the more I need to know.

any good parts in the best character talks? kind of terrible so far (not in a "they don't like my favorite" way)

It all went completely over my head.

The only two high-profile narrative games I played this year were Alien & South Park, so I had no idea who they were even talking about the whole time.

Judging from the crew lists so far, the front runners are definitely Mordor and Bayo 2. Although Far Cry 4 seems like it will be decently high as well seeing as both Jeff and Dan have it as their number 2.

I think Brad will be a Mordor advocate as well, and Alex is definitely gonna get behind Bayonetta. Vinny I'm not sure about, he could fall either way, and Jason seems like a Bayo guy too. Drew, like Vinny, I'm not sure on, but perhaps will go with Mordor (Not sure if he even has a Wii U). It'll definitely be one of the closest top 2 discussions in a while. Not sure it will last as long as that Skyrim/Saint's Row debate, but should be super interesting.

Just finished listening to the Day 2 podcast.

Brad pulled out the old Shoemaker filibuster when it came to most dissappointing, lol

Destiny should've taken it

I'm realising that next year's deliberations are going to be pretty incredible if everything that is supposed to come out actually hits and is as good as we expect

Well, if it doesn't, then most disappointing and most broken will be glorious.
