Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

What would be a good weighting system for working up the site's top 10 by averaging their individual lists? Something like...

1. 20 points
2. 15
3. 12
4.10
5. 8
6. 6
7. 4
8. 3
9. 2
10. 1

Reading these comments, especially after reading for days about how Driveclub should have won so and so category makes me laugh.

Driveclub fans, you had no idea how screwed you guys were this year. hehehehehehe.

I'm not even saying it should have won any categories. The only ones I can see it being eligible for out of the first 4 days would be best looking or best debut, which I'm fine with it not winning. Guilty Gear is gorgeous and even if I think Mordor is overrated I think a racing game would have a hard time winning a debut category against any of the other contenders.

But worst game? If DC was the worst game I played in any year I would be a happy gamer.

Thank you Patrick for explaining Binding of Isaac and roguelikes as concept to everyone. I was kinda going crazy when they were talking about not getting what carries over and referencing Rogue Legacy as a better roguelike type game.

edit: Oh jeez the Mario Kart 8 and SSB4 veto round talk was awful. I can only imagine how worse it gets deeper in.

Yeah, I'm actually playing Isaac as I listen to the podcast and I was pretty salty over the arguments against it.

I understand it not being on the Top 10 list of course, but to so summarily dismiss it is a little ridiculous.

Like, I have no interest in Spelunky at all. But I don't dismiss it simply because there are better platformers and better roguelikes out there.

God, and then Brad shamed Alex into letting Destiny on the list because he let Alex have both Mario Kart and Jazzpunk. Straight up Machiavellian shit there.

Personally was a big fan of Mordor. Even with the lackluster ending/second half, had too much fun messing with the world, the Nemesis System and the powers.

My God this Destiny filibuster. Brad has been stone-walling attempts on all sides to get Destiny off for like half an hour straight.

Okay, between the time they were debating between Wolfenstein and Destiny and the time they spent talking just about Destiny, they've been talking about Destiny for like a fucking hour.

This is Brad's trump card. The other tricks to get Destiny on the list were effective, but not quite enough, so he's had to bust out his old strategy of just exhausting everyone else into submission.

So they gave GOTY to something made using the same template as the Ubisoft games that inspired that company's inclusion in the "PLEASE STOP" category.

Wow, I did not anticipate Mordor pulling it off, figured Bayo2 had it in the bag. I loved Mordor so I'm not complaining, the podcast should be interesting to listen to.

Mordor winning GOTY has people like

"He should say that's why I don't like it, not that it's a bad game"

Hearing this at 1:08:40 made me laugh after how they had ripped other games prior to this point.

When
Jazzpunk
made the list

YYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

...then when
destiny
made the list

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCK NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I feel like GB values the high of a game and tends to forget whole large cuts of bad game ie Sunset before air dash.

or everything but the raid in destiny.

Not surprised about
Mordor
, they usually go with the "safer" choice on their GotY.
Last of Us beat Link between Worlds, XCOM beat Walking Dead and Skyrim beat Saints Row.

I am surprised that
Wolfenstein didn't make the list, though. And that Destiny is on it.

An expected meh pick for GOTY. I don't understand why people keep treating that game like it was the second coming of gaming.

Ew. Mordor? They give GOTY to the same fucking Ubisoft template they were complaining about earlier.

It's funny how Brad's logic for getting rid of Mario Kart was because there had been seven MK games already. How many AssCruds and Batmans were released last-gen? Right.

Not even last gen. How about last year and this year? It's insane. And Jeff bringing that up when he's talking up COD....seriously? Those guys at the table are way too soft in this discussion because I would've called so much shit talking out, especially against Jeff.

Jeff made that argument too and he had COD as his number 1. I know their arguments are exaggerated because they have certain agendas, but damn that was frustrating. I'm just glad Dan is there.
