Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

Just peeked at the upcoming guests lists. It's great that Zoe Quinn did one.

I'm glad to see it. My only knowledge of her was when she guested on the E3 (i think?) show and thought she was interesting. Sorry to see anyone dragged through as much horseshit as she has.

I'd put it at the top of my most disappointing games of the year.

I'd also probably put it in the top ten.

This year sucked.

It might be in my top 3, and in the end I was really disappointed with it too. But after spending 3 months with it I can't deny how much time I sank into it.

So yeah, kind of a shitty year.

Alex's claim that TEW is flat out the whole time is totally inaccurate. There is a lot of time spent away from the tension, most notably in the save area. Every time you heard that music you could relax and unwind a little bit. The whole automatic checkpointing plus manual saving/upgrading system was extremely well done.

1,3,4 and 10 are very questionable, but I guess it's expected since those are sone of the few games that everyone actually played.

That's what always happens with site GOTY lists, regardless of what site it is. That's why the individual top 10 lists are so great to have as a side thing.

I was wondering why Sonic was on the Please Stop list just because everyone already knows Sonic's rep is...

Then I remember that Alex had to go to press events after press events for this.

Oh God, Brad was just masterful with how he got Jeff on his side about Destiny. Notice how he subtly changes the conversation to be "Jeff and me" versus everyone else. And then there was how he deferred discussion on Destiny until only games Jeff didn't like were still on the list.

Brad, you magnificent bastard.

Brad is my favorite to listen to in any GOTY discussion. He's been learning for years how to manipulate the vote.

Haha yeah, got to hand it to him. I should've believed in you Brad, now all I have is this avatar for two months :(

Alex sounded like was was begging for Jeff's approval when he called DriveClub "a lousy game that also doesn't work, though, on top of not being a good driving game." Their hate is so over the top it's funny.

Has anyone other than Jeff played it or have any of them played it recently?

EDT It's especially ridiculous that Driveclub is on a worst games list when fuckin' Destiny makes the top 10.

Reading these comments, especially after reading for days about how Driveclub should have won so and so category makes me laugh.

Driveclub fans, you had no idea how screwed you guys were this year. hehehehehehe.

They're not wrong....

It would be easier to take seriously if I had heard more criticisms from people other than Jeff who played it. Haven't gotten to the Bombcast segment yet, but all the hate for the game seems to have come from Jeff when it seems the others only barely played it, if that.

Thank you Patrick for explaining Binding of Isaac and roguelikes as concept to everyone. I was kinda going crazy when they were talking about not getting what carries over and referencing Rogue Legacy as a better roguelike type game.

edit: Oh jeez the Mario Kart 8 and SSB4 veto round talk was awful. I can only imagine how worse it gets deeper in.

I still have two hours left and not sure how much I want to continue. I liked the top 10 they chose in theory, but however Brad pushed Destiny into the #10 slot while they excluded Wolfenstein is straight up bullshit.

Rest of the list I can live with. Whatever. I took it serious for a second.

Wolfenstein really got pushed out in favor of Destiny? That's fucked up.

And as Brad said in the first podcast when Jeff was not impressed by how GTA V looked on Xbone and PS4, just playing like an hour of a game is not enough.

Wow, they were really generous towards Yaiba. That's a straight up piece of garbage.

Probably should have made their conclusion after the gigantic patch that fixed everything and added weather (this was recorded before the patches). Especially if they're going to put Destiny on there based on content added after launch.

Or, you know, played it..

lol at them cutting Wolfenstein, even though everyone played and liked it, while Destiny stays on with only Brad and a begrudging Jeff defending it.

God, Shadow Of Mordor is ridiculously overrated.

The nemesis system is neat and could evolve into something better in future games, but the game around that system just isn't anything special at all.

Oh man been still listening so you just spoiled it but that's fucked up. Everyone was far more positive on Wolf throughout the year over Destiny. That's a huge problem with these lists. The game is so old back from early in the year they aren't remembering how much they liked it.

Disagree. It's the best Assassin's Creed game ever made and the nemesis system is an awesome hook.
