Patrick Klepek leaves Giant Bomb

He is the glue that holds everything together and prevents the site from going adrift. The website would probably just be another game journalism website without him. He has ALWAYS made the right decisions when it comes to the site.
It's very hard for him to be the glue in something when he's not onsite. Giant Bomb is so dependent on its interpersonal stuff like Quick Looks, Unprofessional Fridays, Mailbags, Podcasts. He can't be the lynchpin of the site when he's not involved in any of that stuff.

I'm sorry he's leaving, but the site will go on. I also don't think he's a particularly skilled writer. At least not as good as Brad or Jeff.

He's one of those guy that can simultaneously annoy you and entertain you. He made the BC more interesting for a bit, but I did not care for or about most of his articles.

To be frank I almost forgot about him since he moved to Chicago, so I will look forward to having a new presence. Wish Patrick all the best, seems like a stand up guy.

I was talking about Jeff in response to the person that was saying they couldn't stand Jeff.
Just another game journalism site? Patrick is the only one that reports on news.
And that would be different if it weren't for Jeff. We don't need a thousand sites dedicated to gaming news.

Wow.

Well he always seemed somewhat of an outsider to the group but started fitting in. Not surprised I guess but still interested to see where he winds up

While he was the only one who could actually be called a journalist, he truly annoyed the shit out of me. Nothing against the guy, but he doesn't have a single opinion I agree with. I wish him luck, the duders have shrunk again.

Who's going to play Zero Escape 3 for GB now? Who's going to champion Spelunkin'? These things and more make me sad. Best of luck Patrick, but first I need to get over this loss :(

I know the new hire will be based out of NY, but if we're talking wish list they should get Mary Kish over from Gamespot or bring Lisa on board somehow, she was great on the Extra Life stream.

I never found him very insightful or fun but he had some interesting articles and interviews. Also seemed to endear himself to a lot of folks by trying games other members wouldn't touch.not gonna miss his presence much but sure he will do fine elsewhere.

I guess this makes sense. His work output was on the decline, for whatever reason. It's really shitty news, but I wish him the best.

Never expected this to happen.

Listing to the final Scoops and the Wolf I think Patrick made a great point in how one of his goals was to introduce new faces on the site (like Cara) through the show. I really hope somebody else steps up to do that now outside of their trade show content, luckily Alex sounded pretty inspired to do so.

Patrick was a powerhouse when he was in SF with the rest of the crew. However since his move I've consumed less of his solo content. This change up was inevitable.

I hope you all the best you breaking news mother fucker.

A huge loss for Giant Bomb, but it makes sense given the distance. Honestly, as someone who enjoys Patrick's work, this seems like a good thing re: watching/reading/listening to Patrick.

I hope the work Patrick did regarding social awareness on Giant Bomb is continued by the rest of the staff.

Yeah, I hope the Alex/Vinny/New hire podcast will have regular guests. Would be awesome.

I liked that he was willing to specifically go out and try stuff out of his comfort zone, especially since Brad and Jeff seemed to be doing the exact opposite this year.

I wonder where he's going now, as I can't see him having the same freedom he had at GB anywhere else.

So now the website might as well just be a youtube channel then right?

They've been like that for a while.

That's true. Brad and Jeff especially seem to be really dismissive of things this year.

I believe he is talking about Jeff, as referenced in the earlier quote chain.

He doesn't seem to stay anyone place for too long so this really isn't a surprise when he moved out to ChiTown. Also they may as well just like gamespot report the news and just link to it. That takes way to many people for them to waste on that type of coverage. Wish him the best.

Hope they go for a more diverse replacement, if they actually do replace him. Though Danny would be a very natural fit into the GB format.

he's the best interviewer on the site and is the one closest to what a real journalist actually is. he reminds me of ganespot's ricardo torres.

no bad exagerrated unfunny jokes, no wwe crap.

all the others always go, "it's terrible." patrick always makes sure he gets his point across in an articulate manner as to how and why how he hates the game.

now we're left with talks of beer and other stupid, more unfunny stuff. i guess people dig that kind of bad humour.

The Giant Bomb guys don't really consider themselves as journalists, they barely ever even do reviews anymore. They've thought of themselves as personalities for years now. If you don't like that then fair enough but the site just isn't for you.

Didn't care for the dude at first but he proved to be essential when it comes to why I go to Giant Bomb. He helped keep the site well rounded.

Edit: Oops, followed a quote chain wrong.

Patrick was in/produced some of my favorite and least favorite content. I think the site as a whole will be worse off without him (well, really, he's been pretty much gone since he moved to Chicago...) but I won't miss some of the controversy he brought to GB's content.

I hope this opens up a spot on their sheets to hire a third for GBeast.

Nah, that's always been Jeff. He just doesn't do a lot because he has to run the site.

Watch any of his interviews (either the sit-downs or impromptu expo ones) and you see why he's so well regarded in the industry. He instantly makes the interviewee comfortable and can roll off informed and insightful questions with ease.

So now the website might as well just be a youtube channel then right?

It's always been about the podcast and video content for me. Outside of the occasional written review, I almost never click on text-based content.

I guess someone could have hired him to work remotely for another site, but if he's still just going to be working remotely, why even bother leaving?

Oh, man... what if it's Polygon? Aren't they all pretty much working in separate locations?

Oh shit here we go again. Fill that quota, GB
I find this reaction rather crass. There are gaps in perspectives at Giant Bomb and a more diverse replacement would be a good thing for the crew.

Assuming such a hypothetical person to be "token" right out of the gate, implies that having female or minority voices involved doesn't have an inherent value to it, nevermind the presumption that this person wouldn't just as easily be very talented.
